Chapter 867 Rest and Moving Forward
After experiencing this thrilling battle and the twists and turns of searching for the little girl, everyone finally had a moment of peace. They found a relatively open and safe place and decided to rest first.
Zhang Hao leaned against a large tree, eyes closed, trying to regulate his disordered breathing. The wounds on his body still ached, each one a testament to the intensity and brutality of the recent battle. Sweat mixed with blood, leaving streaks on his cheeks. His breathing gradually steadied, but his brow remained slightly furrowed, as if he were contemplating the future.
The woman gently wiped the tears and dust from the little girl's face, soothing her tenderly. Her movements were as gentle as a spring breeze, and her voice, like the gurgling of a stream, warm and peaceful. "Baby, it's okay. Just get some sleep." In the woman's arms, the little girl slowly stopped crying. Tears still clung to her eyelashes, and her breathing became even as she drifted off to sleep.
Ling Yu sat nearby, carefully examining the remaining talismans, his brow furrowed as he pondered the situation he might encounter next. His fingers gently stroked the edges of the talismans, a hint of anxiety in his eyes. "There aren't many talismans left. We have to use them sparingly," he whispered.
The mysterious man silently tended to his wounds, his movements skillful and swift, as if he had experienced this countless times. His eyes continued to scan the surroundings vigilantly, not missing any slightest movement.
The old man sat on a rock, eyes closed, recovering his over-expended magic power. A faint glow surrounded his body, flickering slightly with his breathing. His face was etched with the marks of time, yet at this moment, he appeared remarkably calm.
After a while, Zhang Hao opened his eyes, looked at everyone and said, "We can't stay here for too long. We must find a way to leave the ruins as soon as possible." Although his voice was still a little weak, it was full of determination.
Everyone nodded in agreement.
The woman gently placed the little girl on a simple bed made of leaves and covered her with a piece of clothing. Her eyes were filled with love and concern. "You must protect her well."
"So which direction should we go next?" Ling Yu asked. He stood up and dusted himself off.
Zhang Hao stood up and observed the surrounding environment. "Based on previous experience, if we follow the direction of the water flow, we may be able to find an exit." He looked in the direction of the water flow with a hint of expectation in his eyes.
Everyone packed up and prepared to set off again.
At this moment, the little girl suddenly woke up, her eyes filled with fear and anxiety. "Sister, I'm scared." The little girl held the woman's hand tightly, her voice trembling.
The woman squatted down and said gently, "Don't be afraid, baby, we will protect you." She gently stroked the little girl's hair to comfort her.
Everyone looked at the little girl, their hearts filled with love and determination. They knew that no matter how many difficulties lay ahead, they would not let the little girl get hurt.
They followed the current, moving cautiously along the way. The surrounding scenery was still filled with mystery and danger, and from time to time, strange noises could be heard. Branches swayed in the wind, making creaking sounds, as if warning them not to get too close.
"Everyone be careful!" Zhang Hao whispered. He held the sword tightly in his hand, ready to deal with any danger that might arise.
Suddenly, a narrow ravine appeared ahead, topped by a rickety suspension bridge. The bridge looked ancient, its planks rotted and its ropes loose. Beneath the bridge lay a bottomless abyss, shrouded in a thin layer of mist, a forbidding prospect.
"This bridge doesn't look safe," the mysterious man said, a hint of hesitation in his voice.
"But this might be our only way out." Zhang Hao frowned. He walked forward and stepped lightly on the wooden planks, causing the suspension bridge to creak with a frightening sound.
Everyone was in a dilemma.
"How about we find another way?" said the woman.
"Time is running out. We don't have much time to find other ways." The old man opened his eyes and said.
"I'll go over and try first." Zhang Hao took a deep breath and stepped onto the suspension bridge. His steps were light and cautious.
The suspension bridge swayed even more violently beneath his feet, as if it would break at any moment. Everyone's heart was in their throat...
