The President's Tender Trap

Chapter 24 The Cold War Escalates

Although communication between Lu Ming and Su Wan had improved, the cold war atmosphere hadn't completely dissipated. As time went on, the gap between them seemed to grow wider, and their work collaboration became increasingly awkward. Whenever they met in the office, the atmosphere between them was filled with silence and unease.

Su Wan's mood grew increasingly depressed, and her work performance suffered noticeably. She was often absent-minded and unable to concentrate. Project progress was slow, and team members began to whisper among themselves, sensing her frustration and dissatisfaction. Lu Ming observed this and felt immensely anxious. He tried various ways to control his emotions, but whenever he saw Su Wan's cold attitude, a wave of frustration washed over him.

"Su Wan, we need to discuss the progress of this project again." Lu Ming mustered up the courage to try to break the deadlock in a meeting.

"I know, I'll take care of it." Su Wan's answer was simple and indifferent, and she obviously had no intention of starting a discussion.

"But the time for this report is getting closer and closer, and we need better cooperation." There was a hint of helplessness in Lu Ming's tone. He felt as if he was hitting an invisible wall and could not move forward.

"I'll try my best." Su Wan's attitude remained cold, her eyes wandering, as if her mind was no longer on work.

Lu Ming took a deep breath and tried to calm himself. He knew Su Wan was at her lowest point, but he didn't know how to help her. Every attempt ended in failure, leaving him feeling extremely frustrated. Ultimately, he could only choose silence, his anxiety growing.

At the same time, competitors seem to have noticed this and begin to target Lu Ming and Su Wan in the workplace, creating even greater pressure. The head of a project team, a competitor of Lu Ming and Su Wan, sees the rift between them and decides to take advantage of it.

"I heard that Su Wan hasn't been in good shape recently. Is it because of too much work pressure?" At a team gathering, a competitor deliberately mentioned Su Wan with a hint of sarcasm in his voice.

"Yes, the previous project progressed slowly, and everyone was considering whether to change the person in charge." Another colleague echoed with a hint of gloating in his eyes.

Lu Ming's heart sank, and he felt powerless. He knew these words were just malicious slander from his competitors, but he was powerless to fight back. His attention was distracted by these rumors, and his anxiety grew even more intense.

"I heard yesterday that Su Wan and Lu Ming don't seem to have a good relationship, and everyone is talking about it." The competitor continued to take the opportunity to fan the flames, causing the colleagues around them to start whispering.

"Their coordination is indeed a bit awkward. It looks like something is going to go wrong," a colleague commented in a low voice.

Lu Ming was furious, yet he couldn't refute her. He knew the cold war between him and Su Wan was being exaggerated, becoming the focus of public discussion. This pressure not only affected their work but also invisibly deepened the rift between them.

After returning to the office, Lu Ming couldn't help but find Zhang Kai and confide his troubles to him. "Kai, things have been getting worse recently. Su Wan's condition isn't good either, and our competitors are still messing with us. What should we do?"

"Communication between you is the key. If this problem is not resolved, external pressure will only make things worse." Zhang Kai frowned, feeling vaguely uneasy.

"But I don't know how to make her let go of her worries." Lu Ming shook his head helplessly, anxiety in his eyes.

"Maybe you can try to ask her out and reconnect. In any case, solve the problem between you first," Zhang Kai suggested.

Lu Ming pondered this and decided to give it one more try. He knew that if he didn't resolve this cold war quickly, both his work and his relationship would sink deeper into trouble. So, he silently made up his mind and prepared to communicate with Su Wan again.

However, Su Wan's reaction surprised him. Her work performance had become increasingly sluggish, as if she were completely overwhelmed by external pressure. During a meeting, Lu Ming noticed that Su Wan's face had turned pale and she looked exhausted, even after making minor mistakes. Her work stagnation was affecting the performance of the entire team.

"Su Wan, are you okay?" After the meeting, Lu Ming finally couldn't help but take the initiative to show concern.

"I'm fine, just a little tired." Su Wan forced a smile, but Lu Ming could see that her eyes were full of fatigue and anxiety.

"You have to know that work is important, but your health is more important." Lu Ming's tone was full of concern. "If you need to rest, just tell me."

"Thank you, I will pay attention to it." There was a hint of gratitude in Su Wan's tone, but it still couldn't hide the helplessness in her eyes.

This situation made Lu Ming feel extremely distressed. He knew that Su Wan still had many unanswered questions in her heart, and all he could do seemed to be to accompany her silently.

However, the cold war situation did not ease. Su Wan's performance at work remained poor, and Lu Ming's efforts to control his emotions were largely ineffective. A competitor, keenly aware of this, began to exert pressure in the workplace, intending to further widen the rift between the two.

"I heard that your project is not going well. What a pity." During a meeting, a competitor deliberately cast a mocking look at Lu Ming, his words full of sarcasm.

"I believe we will overcome the difficulties." Lu Ming tried to remain calm, but his heart was filled with anger.

"I hope you can find a solution as soon as possible, otherwise you will be surpassed by others." The competitor's words were like a sharp blade, piercing Lu Ming's heart.

At this moment, Lu Ming was filled with anxiety and uneasiness. He knew that the cold war between him and Su Wan not only affected their work, but also gave competitors an opportunity to take advantage. No matter what, he had to find a way to break this deadlock.

During a late night overtime, Lu Ming finally made up his mind and sent Su Wan a message, inviting her to dinner, hoping to take the opportunity to have a good talk. He knew that only by facing it could he resolve the doubts and anxieties in his heart.

"Su Wan, are you free tonight? Can we meet and talk?" After sending the message, Lu Ming's heart was filled with anticipation and anxiety.

"I have something to do tonight, let's do it another day." Su Wan's reply came quickly, but it made Lu Ming's heart sink.

"No matter how busy you are, you need to give yourself time to relax." Lu Ming was secretly anxious, unable to accept such a rejection. He knew that he had to take more proactive action to break this cold war.

"I'll wait for your reply." Lu Ming finally replied, silently hoping that Su Wan could find time to give their relationship a chance.

However, things didn't go as he hoped. As the cold war escalated and work pressure grew, communication between the two gradually decreased, and the emotional rift became more apparent. Lu Ming felt extremely anxious and couldn't shake the deep sense of powerlessness.

Under this wave of pressure, Su Wan's mood gradually sunk to its lowest point. She struggled to conceal her anxiety every day, yet the irritation within her heart swirled like an undercurrent, suffocating her. Whenever she saw Lu Ming, she couldn't help but feel a surge of bitterness, recalling the doubts and anxieties that plagued her.

"How should I face all this?" Su Wan sat in her office late at night, facing the computer screen, feeling lost and helpless. She knew she had to make a choice to face the future of this relationship.

In the office next door, Lu Ming was also tossing and turning, his heart filled with worry for Su Wan. Whenever the night was quiet, he felt extremely lonely, and his confusion about the future became more and more serious.
