Chapter 49: The Challenge of the Sealed Room
We stood before the sealed room, a powerful, mysterious aura bearing down on us like a physical presence. Huge stone statues and shadowy apparitions roamed the surroundings, their oppressive presence like a thick, dark cloud gathering above us, weighing heavily and suffocating us.
"These guardian creatures look very powerful. We need to formulate a battle plan." I lowered my voice, staring at the terrifying stone statues and ghosts, and whispered to Luo Chen.
Luo Chen nodded slightly, his gaze unwavering. Like two sharp swords, he fixed his gaze on the statues and ghosts. "The statues appear sturdy. We might need to find weak points like their joints or energy cores to attack. As for the ghosts, they're invisible and intangible. My magic may not be very effective against them. You'll need to rely on your sword to dispel them." His voice was steady and calm, like a beacon lit in the darkness, bringing a sense of peace of mind.
"Okay, let's try getting closer." I took a deep breath, and that breath seemed to instill a surge of courage in me. I slowly tightened my grip on the sword. The touch of the hilt calmed me down a bit. Like a cautious deer, I took a slow, cautious step forward, each one filled with caution, as if the ground beneath my feet could become a trap at any moment.
The statues seemed to sense our approach. One of the giant ones, like a behemoth awakened, slowly turned its head. Its eyes were like two burning flames, flashing a red light that was fiery and dangerous. As it turned, the ground shook slightly, as if it had been struck by an earthquake.
"Be careful!" Luo Chen shouted loudly, with a hint of nervousness in his voice.
Without hesitation, the statue raised its massive arm, like a towering pillar, and slammed down on us. I felt a gust of wind against me, and I leaped to the side like a nimble cheetah. The arm struck the ground with a resounding thud, sending up a cloud of dust that rose like a mushroom cloud. A deep, bottomless crater was carved into the ground, sending the surrounding dirt and rocks flying in all directions.
"This power is truly astonishing!" I exclaimed, my eyes wide open. My fear of these guardian creatures grew even stronger.
Luo Chen quickly waved his wand, muttering something to himself. The spell flowed from his mouth like a mysterious ballad. A magical ray shot like an arrow from a bow, aiming at the joint of the stone statue's arm. After the magic ray struck the stone statue, it emitted only a slight spark, like a fleeting meteor in the night sky, and did not cause much damage to the statue.
"It seems that its defense is very strong. We have to increase the intensity of our attack." Luo Chen said with a frown, with a hint of worry and unwillingness in his eyes.
I seized my moment and, like an eagle swooping down upon its prey, I lunged at the statue. As I neared it, I suddenly leaped up, my body as lithe as a swallow. I gripped my sword with both hands and, with all my might, swung it at its eyes. The statue sensed my attack and tried to evade, but its massive form sluggishly moved, like a massive ship turning. My sword pierced its eye, and the statue let out a muffled roar that echoed through the room like thunder. The light in its eyes dimmed, like a candle about to go out.
"It works!" I shouted excitedly, with a surge of joy in my heart.
But at that moment, like wolves scenting prey, the ghosts suddenly drifted toward me. Their speed was lightning-fast, and they were at my side in an instant. I felt a chill wash over me, a chill that instantly enveloped me like icy river water. My body felt frozen, unable to move.
"I'll deal with them!" Luo Chen shouted, his voice firm and decisive.
He waved his wand and chanted the incantation again. It was like an ancient summons. A beam of white light emanated from the wand, like holy moonlight, rushing towards the spirits. Enveloped by the light, the spirits let out a shrill cry, a cry like nails scratching a blackboard, chilling to the bone. However, they remained undispelled and stubbornly clung to my surroundings.
"These ghosts are very tenacious." Luo Chen gritted his teeth and said, beads of sweat appearing on his forehead. There was a hint of anxiety in his eyes, and he gripped the wand in his hand even tighter.
I fought off the chill and rushed toward the statue again. Like a nimble assassin, I circled behind it, my eyes like a scanner, carefully searching for its power core. Suddenly, I spotted a faint glow on its back. Though faint, it was distinct. I felt a surge of joy, realizing it must be its power core.
Without hesitation, I swung my sword at that spot. As if it had been given a mission, it pierced straight through. As soon as the sword penetrated, the statue trembled violently, as if in immense pain. Cracks began to appear on its body, spreading rapidly like a spider web. Light flickered constantly within the cracks, as if breaking free from its restraints, gushing out from the fissures.
"Get out of the way!" I shouted to Luo Chen, with a hint of urgency in my voice.
Luo Chen and I quickly retreated like frightened rabbits. The statue collapsed with a blazing flash of light. The sound was like a landslide, and the entire room seemed to tremble. The dust that rose filled the air, choking us and making us cough.
"One has been dealt with, but there are still those ghosts." I said, looking at the ghosts, with a hint of fatigue and worry in my eyes.
"I don't think my magic has much effect on them. We have to think of other ways." Luo Chen said helplessly, with a hint of frustration on his face.
I pondered for a moment, my mind racing with countless thoughts. Suddenly, an idea struck me, and my eyes lit up, like a ray of light in the darkness. "Luo Chen, use magic to create some wind and blow these ghosts away."
"Wind? Let me try." Luo Chen said uncertainly, with a hint of doubt in his eyes.
He waved his wand and chanted the spell again. A gentle breeze, like a soft hand, gently formed around us, then gradually grew stronger. The wind was like an invisible giant, slowly extending its power. The ghosts began to lose their balance in the wind, their figures twisting like candles in the breeze.
"Turn up the wind!" I shouted, a hint of excitement in my voice.
Luo Chen heard my words and concentrated his magic. It felt like strength welling up from deep within him. The wind grew stronger, like a surging wave, howling and sweeping over the ghosts. The ghosts cried out in pain in the strong wind, their cries growing fainter and fainter, then slowly blew away, dissolving into wisps of smoke that vanished into the air, like morning mist dissipating under the sunlight.
"We've finally gotten rid of these guardian creatures and can now enter the sealed room." I breathed a sigh of relief, feeling as if a huge burden had been lifted from my body.
We walked to the door of the sealed room. It was tightly closed, like a mysterious guardian, silent and majestic. The door was engraved with various runes and patterns, which seemed like ancient codes, exuding a mysterious atmosphere.
"These runes look very complicated. I don't know how to open this door." Luo Chen said, looking at the door, his eyes full of curiosity and confusion.
I carefully observed the runes on the door, my eyes like precision instruments, not missing a single detail. Suddenly, I noticed that several of the runes were very similar to the runes we had seen before on the water elemental trap. The familiar shapes and lines made me feel a stir.
"Luo Chen, look at these runes, are they related to the previous ones?" I pointed at the runes on the door and said with a hint of surprise in my voice.
Luo Chen took a closer look, and his eyes suddenly lit up like two bright stars. "I think you're right. Perhaps we can try using the same method we used to deal with the water element trap." His voice was filled with anticipation.
We began to search for something that could cover the rune, our eyes scanning the surroundings like searchlights. However, we found nothing suitable, and the empty environment made us feel a little frustrated.
"What should I do? There's nothing to cover the rune." I said anxiously, with a hint of helplessness in my voice.
Luo Chen pondered for a moment, a thoughtful glint in his eyes. "I can use magic to create a barrier to replace the obstruction." His voice was steady and confident.
He waved his wand and chanted a spell. A transparent barrier, like a vast glass shield, appeared before the runes on the door. The runes' light instantly dimmed, like a lightbulb whose light had been obscured. Then, the door slowly opened, its sound like an ancient mechanism being activated, carrying a mysterious rhythm.
We entered the room, and it was filled with an even thicker, mysterious aura, like a mist enveloping us. In the center of the room stood a stone platform, upon which sat an object emanating powerful magic. It resembled a brilliant star, radiating a dazzling light, its magic spreading like ripples in all directions.
"This is what we're looking for," I said, a hint of awe in my voice.
However, just as we approached the stone platform, a low voice suddenly rang out in the room: "Do you think it's so easy to take this item away?" The voice seemed to come from the depths of hell, full of gloom and mockery, echoing in the room, making our hearts instantly rise to our throats.
