The Mysterious Soldier of the Anti-Japanese War
Chapter 24: Fury and Traps
When most of the Japanese scouts fell to the ground due to poisoning, a tense and strange atmosphere filled the forest. At the same time, another squadron of Japanese soldiers also discovered the artillery position of the remnants during their search.
Japanese squadron leader Mitsuno Momota arrived at the area with a furious look on his face. When he saw the bodies of nearly half his squadron's elite troops arranged in a large pattern on a nearby field, reading "Whoever offends China will be punished, no matter how strong," his eyes nearly burst into flames. Those words seemed like a blatant provocation to the Japanese army, and they infuriated Mitsuno Momota to the point of rage.
"Baga! This is an insult to the Imperial Japanese Army!" Momota Mitsuno roared angrily. He gripped his saber tightly, veins popping out on the back of his hand. "Collect the bodies of these dead soldiers!" he ordered.
Although the Japanese soldiers were also filled with anger and fear, they did not dare to disobey orders and took action. They approached the corpses cautiously, feeling uneasy. However, they did not know that an even more terrifying trap was waiting for them.
As the Japanese soldiers gathered the bodies, a sudden explosion shattered the silence. A mine had been triggered, and the powerful force instantly toppled the surrounding Japanese soldiers. Blood and flesh flew everywhere, and screams rang out. Some soldiers were shattered to pieces, a horrific sight.
Momota Mitsuno was also knocked to the ground by the sudden explosion, his ears buzzing and his eyes in chaos. He struggled to stand up and looked at the tragic scene in front of him, his heart filled with shock and anger.
"Damn enemy!" Momota Mitsuno roared. He knew they had fallen into a trap carefully laid by the enemy. But he refused to accept defeat. He vowed to find the enemy and avenge the fallen soldiers.
On this bloody and dangerous battlefield, the Japanese army was in dire straits. Lei Tao, meanwhile, was quietly advancing toward Nanjing. Halfway along, he suddenly spotted a Japanese signalman and a second lieutenant liaison officer speeding toward him on a three-wheeled motorcycle. Immediately alert, Lei Tao quickly hid in the bushes by the roadside, observing the movements of the two Japanese soldiers.
The three-wheeled motorcycle bumped along the rugged mountain road, the roar of its engine shattering the surrounding silence. The signalman and the second lieutenant liaison officer looked hurried, as if they were on an urgent mission. Lei Tao secretly speculated about their purpose, perhaps they were transmitting important intelligence or carrying out a special mission.
A flicker of determination flashed in Lei Tao's eyes. He decided not to let the two Japanese soldiers pass through. He quietly pulled out a dagger from the bushes and held it tightly in his hand. He waited for the perfect moment to launch a surprise attack on the two Japanese soldiers.
As the three-wheeled motorcycle drew closer, Lei Tao's heartbeat quickened. He took a deep breath, steadying himself. The moment the motorcycle passed his hiding spot, Lei Tao pounced like a cheetah. The dagger in his hand gleamed coldly in the sunlight as he swiftly stabbed the signalman's throat. The signalman collapsed in a pool of blood before he could even utter a scream.
The Lieutenant Liaison Officer was frightened by the sudden attack and tried to pull out his pistol to resist, but Lei Tao was too fast. Lei Tao kicked the pistol out of the Lieutenant Liaison Officer's hand and then put a dagger to his throat.
The second lieutenant liaison officer looked at Lei Tao in horror, his eyes filled with fear. Lei Tao's eyes were cold and determined, and he didn't hesitate at all. He exerted a little force on his wrist, and the tip of the dagger pierced the second lieutenant liaison officer's skin, and a trickle of blood slowly flowed out.
"Don't move! Or you'll die instantly," Lei Tao shouted in a low voice. The second lieutenant liaison officer trembled slightly, knowing he was in a desperate situation. Lei Tao stared into the second lieutenant's eyes, reading fear and despair in them.
"Tell me, where are you going? What's your mission?" Lei Tao asked sharply. The second lieutenant liaison officer stammered, his voice trembling, "We...we're going...to report to headquarters."
Lei Tao continued to ask: "What situation do you want to report?" The second lieutenant liaison officer did not dare to hide it and answered truthfully: "It's about...about searching for the enemy." Lei Tao's heart moved, he knew that he must get more information from this second lieutenant liaison officer.
He pressed again, "Is there any other important information? Tell me quickly!" The second lieutenant liaison officer's face turned pale, with beads of sweat on his forehead: "I... I don't know anymore, I really don't know." Seeing that he didn't seem to be lying, Lei Tao decided not to waste any more time.
He twisted his wrist hard, and the dagger pierced the second lieutenant's throat. The second lieutenant's eyes widened, and his body slowly fell to the ground. Lei Tao searched the second lieutenant's body and found some documents and maps, which might be helpful for his operation.
Lei Tao hopped on his newly acquired three-wheeled motorcycle, the engine roaring once more. He sped down the road, the wind whistling past his ears. His eyes were firm and sharp, with a single goal in mind: Nanjing.
Soon, Lei Tao arrived in the suburbs, less than a few dozen meters outside Nanjing. He stopped his motorcycle and observed his surroundings with vigilance. It was completely silent, with only the occasional chirping of birds. Lei Tao knew that Nanjing was under tight control of the Japanese army, and any slight misstep would put him in danger.
He decided to store the tricycle in the Bagua Gyro space. Lei Tao concentrated his energy, mobilizing the mysterious power within his body. In a flash of light, the tricycle disappeared, safely stored in the Bagua Gyro space.
Lei Tao took a deep breath and sorted out his equipment. Just as he was about to continue, he saw two Japanese infantry squads escorting a group of ordinary Chinese civilians to the outskirts of the city. Their faces were filled with fear and despair, unsure of their fate.
Japanese soldiers pointed guns at the civilians and forced several of them to dig their own graves. Cruel smiles appeared on their faces, as they attempted to bury the Chinese alive. A surge of intense anger surged in Lei Tao's heart, and he clenched his fists tightly, his nails digging deep into his palms.
He knew he couldn't just sit back and watch. Lei Tao quietly observed the Japanese army's movements, thinking about how to rescue these people. His eyes flashed with determination. He decided to give the Japanese a heavy blow and let them know that the Chinese people are not so easily bullied.
Lei Tao seized the opportunity and quickly took out two Type 100 submachine guns from the Bagua Top space. He expertly replaced the new magazines and stared closely at the Japanese soldiers and the people. As the Japanese soldiers herded the people together, Lei Tao raised the two Type 100 submachine guns with both hands and shouted, "All Chinese, get down!"
Upon hearing this, the civilians immediately dropped to the ground. Their hearts were filled with joy and hope, as if they had seen a savior. Without hesitation, Lei Tao began firing at the Japanese troops. The gunfire roared like thunder, and tongues of fire gushed out. Half the Japanese troops were riddled with bullets before they could react. Blood splattered, and screams rang out.
The remaining Japanese soldiers, seeing someone attacking them, shouted, "Enemy attack!" They panicked and sought cover, attempting to fight back. Several Japanese soldiers crouched, cocked their Type 38 rifles, aimed, and fired. Lei Tao instantly felt a strong sense of threat.
His body was like a taut spring, and at the critical moment, he did a tactical roll. His movements were fluid, agile, and decisive. His body traced a graceful arc through the air, dodging the numerous bullets fired at him. The bullets impacted the ground, sending up clouds of dust.
Lei Tao hurled his empty-magazine Type 100 at the two Japanese soldiers closest to him. The submachine gun, like a sledgehammer, struck the Japanese soldiers, instantly rendering them incapable of fighting. He then pulled a smoke bomb from his Bagua spinning top, released the safety pin, and swiftly tossed it between the Japanese soldiers and the civilians.
Smoke instantly spread, obscuring the Japanese soldiers' vision. Lei Tao took the opportunity to remove the two Mauser pistols from his waist. His eyes were calm and focused, like a falcon locking onto its prey.
Lei Tao held two Mauser pistols, held flat at a 90-degree angle. His movements were steady and precise, showcasing superb tactical shooting skills. He narrowed his eyes slightly, aiming at the remaining Japanese troops. Every pull of the trigger was accompanied by a crisp crack. Like messengers of death, the bullets flew accurately towards the Japanese troops.
During the shooting, Lei Tao periodically dodged Japanese bullets, leaping like a nimble swallow and rolling sideways like a swift cheetah. His body twisted and spun in the air, avoiding the Japanese fire at incredible angles.
As a bullet whizzed toward him, Lei Tao leaped forward, curling up in the air. The bullet grazed his body, missing him by a few centimeters. After landing, he quickly adjusted his stance and continued firing.
Several more bullets were fired from different directions. Lei Tao slid sideways, his body sliding on ice, and instantly moved to a safe position. His eyes were always fixed on the Japanese soldiers, without the slightest panic.
Lei Tao constantly shifted his position, making it difficult for the Japanese to accurately aim at him. His movements were as graceful as a dance, yet filled with deadly threat. Under his precise shooting, the remaining Japanese troops fell one by one, and their resistance became increasingly weak.
Finally, Lei Tao exhausted the bullets in his Mauser pistol. Without hesitation, he quickly put the pistol back into his waistband and took out a sharp dagger. At this time, several Japanese soldiers were close at hand. They retreated repeatedly, removing bullets from their Type 38 rifles as they retreated. Lei Tao knew that they were removing bullets to prevent accidental discharges in hand-to-hand combat and injuring their own men, after all, the Type 38 rifle bullet had strong penetrating power.
Lei Tao's eyes glared at the Japanese soldiers. He leaned forward slightly, like a cheetah poised to pounce on its prey. The dagger in his hand flashed with a cold light, as if foreshadowing the bloody battle to come.
The Japanese soldiers looked at Lei Tao nervously, their eyes full of fear and vigilance. They knew that the enemy in front of them was not easy to deal with, but as soldiers of the Imperial Japanese Army, they could not retreat.
A Japanese soldier rushed forward first, brandishing his bayonet and stabbing at Lei Tao. Lei Tao dodged the attack easily by moving sideways. He seized the Japanese soldier's gun and pulled it hard, pulling the soldier towards him. At the same time, he thrust the dagger in his hand, piercing the Japanese soldier's heart.
The Japanese soldier's eyes widened, his face filled with disbelief. He slowly fell to the ground, blood gushing from his wound.
Seeing this, other Japanese soldiers rushed forward. Lei Tao was not afraid. He moved his body flexibly to avoid the attacks of the Japanese soldiers. His dagger was like a poisonous snake, constantly looking for opportunities to give the Japanese soldiers a fatal blow.
Lei Tao sometimes jumped, sometimes rolled, and sometimes dodged sideways. His movements were agile and decisive, making it difficult for the Japanese soldiers to attack. During one of his escapes, Lei Tao suddenly turned around, and the dagger in his hand drew an arc, directly slitting the throat of a Japanese soldier.
Blood spurted out, and the Japanese soldier fell to the ground, clutching his throat. The other Japanese soldiers became even more terrified, and their attacks became more chaotic.
Lei Tao seized the opportunity and attacked continuously. His dagger was like the scythe of the god of death, constantly reaping the lives of Japanese soldiers. Every time he struck, he accurately hit the vital parts of the Japanese soldiers.
Under Lei Tao's fierce attack, the Japanese soldiers fell one by one. They looked at Lei Tao in horror, as if they saw the coming of death. Lei Tao was like an invincible god of war, killing wantonly on the battlefield.
Just when Lei Tao thought the battle was about to end, the last Japanese soldier showed a crazy look in his eyes. He pulled out a grenade from his waist, intending to die with Lei Tao. Lei Tao instantly sensed the danger and his eyes tightened.
Without hesitation, Lei Tao picked up the dagger in his hand and threw it at the Japanese soldier. The dagger flashed a cold light in the air and accurately hit the Japanese soldier's right eye. The dagger blade penetrated from the eye to the back of the head, and the Japanese soldier's movements stopped instantly.
The grenade slipped from his hand but did not explode. Lei Tao breathed a deep breath, secretly glad that this fierce battle was finally over.
Lei Tao turned to face the crowd, his eyes filled with concern. "Run for your lives," he shouted. The people looked at him gratefully, tears glistening in their eyes. They knew that without him, they would have perished long ago.
At Lei Tao's urging, the people stood up and ran towards a safe place. Lei Tao watched them leave with a sense of relief. He knew that although his actions were dangerous, they had saved many innocent lives.
Lei Tao turned to face the city of Nanjing, his eyes filled with determination. He knew that more challenges awaited him, but he was undaunted. He would use his strength to bring hope to the people of Nanjing and fight for the dignity of the Chinese nation.
