Chapter 7 An Lingrong (6)
An Lingrong held the imperial edict in her hands, her fingertips trembling slightly. She slowly unfolded the golden silk, her eyes scanning the words on it, her heartbeat suddenly accelerating.
"Changzai?" An Lingrong whispered the title, a flicker of surprise and confusion in her eyes. She looked out the window, sunlight filtering through the lattice onto her delicate face. A confident smile played across her lips. "It seems my beauty has caught my attention. It's different from my previous life."
"Thank you for your hard work, eunuch," An Lingrong said softly, handing the sachet to the eunuch. "This is a small token of my appreciation. Please accept it."
The eunuch took the sachet, a flash of surprise in his eyes. He carefully put the sachet into his sleeve, a flattering smile on his face.
"My lord, you are so polite." The eunuch bowed slightly, his voice flattering, his eyes radiating respect. He continued, "If you have any instructions in the future, please let me know. I will do my best to help you."
An Lingrong nodded slightly, a shrewd look in her eyes. She said softly, "Thank you, eunuch."
The eunuch turned around, a respectful smile on his face. He pointed to the middle-aged woman standing nearby and introduced her clearly, "This is Aunt Fangfei. She will teach you the rules of the palace."
A middle-aged woman in a pale blue palace dress slowly stepped forward. Her steps were graceful and unhurried, and her every gesture revealed the composure of years of palace life. Aunt Fangfei approached An Lingrong, slightly bent her knees, folded her hands at her waist, and bowed respectfully, "Greetings to the Young Lady of the Imperial Court."
Seeing this, a gentle flicker of light flashed in An Lingrong's eyes. She quickly stepped forward, extending both hands to help Aunt Fangfei to her feet. Her voice was soft and respectful, and with a hint of a sincere smile, she said, "Aunt, there's no need to be so polite. I'll still rely on your guidance in the days ahead."
Aunt Fangfei slowly raised her head, her eyes meeting An Lingrong's. Sunlight streamed in from the window, casting a soft glow on An Lingrong's delicate features.
A hint of surprise flashed in Aunt Fangfei's eyes. She looked at the newly promoted concubine and was not only attracted by her outstanding beauty, but also impressed by the cleverness revealed in her demeanor.
The atmosphere in the room grew warm and harmonious due to this interaction. Aunt Fangfei nodded secretly, a look of approval in her eyes. She thought to herself, this young lady is extraordinary and will surely make a difference in the palace in the future.
"Aunt, you've worked so hard," An Lingrong said softly, her voice like a spring breeze. "Chunhua, quickly serve tea to Aunt Fangfei."
Chunhua immediately understood what he said and turned around and walked lightly towards the tea set.
An Lingrong took this opportunity to deftly take out an exquisite little porcelain bottle from her wide sleeves.
Her slender fingers gently unscrewed the bottle cap, poured out a round loyalty pill, and quickly placed it in the teacup.
"Aunt, this is the top-quality tea I brought from home. Please have a taste." An Lingrong personally picked up the teacup and walked lightly to Aunt Fangfei.
Aunt Fangfei was flattered and quickly stretched out her hands to take the teacup, a look of gratitude on her face: "Thank you, my lady."
She gently raised the teacup to her lips, took a sip, and a look of surprise flashed in her eyes. "It is indeed a good tea, with a rich aroma and an endless aftertaste."
An Lingrong watched intently as Aunt Fangfei drank her tea, a barely perceptible smile playing on her lips. A flicker of pride flashed across her eyes, and she thought to herself: From now on, this Aunt Fangfei is mine.
"Chunhua, Qiuyue." She called softly, her voice like the breeze blowing across the lake, gentle but with a hint of unquestionable majesty.
The two maids immediately stepped forward, bowed their heads respectfully, and waited for instructions.
"Chunhua's medical skills are superb, and Qiuyue's cooking skills are unparalleled," she continued, her voice full of admiration and anticipation, "Your talents will surely be of great use in this deep palace."
"From today on," An Lingrong said word by word, her eyes revealing determination, "you must study the palace rules with me. Remember, this palace is full of traps. If you are not careful, you will be doomed."
Chunhua and Qiuyue shuddered at this. They lowered their heads and nodded solemnly, "Yes, Miss. We will study wholeheartedly."
An Lingrong stood before the mirror, her eyes darting around as she scrutinized her reflection. A confident glint gleamed in her eyes, and a smile unconsciously curled up at the corners of her mouth. Her delicate fingers gently caressed her smooth cheek as she murmured softly:
"This face is indeed my greatest asset. The beauty pill really lives up to its reputation."
Just as she was immersed in her thoughts, Chunhua quietly pushed open the door and said cautiously, "Miss, Aunt Fangfei is here."
Upon hearing this, An Lingrong's expression instantly softened. She took a deep breath, her eyes softened, and a gentle smile played on her lips. Turning towards the door, her voice was as clear as a silver bell:
"Aunt, you've worked hard. Please take a seat."
Aunt Fangfei looked at An Lingrong lovingly, her eyes full of love. She was completely unaware of the calculations in An Lingrong's heart. In her eyes, An Lingrong was still the gentle and lovely girl.
"Young Master is truly clever and intelligent," Aunt Fangfei praised, her voice filled with satisfaction. "This old servant can see that Young Master will achieve great things in the palace."
An Lingrong's eyes flickered with joy when she heard this. She raised her head and smiled modestly, "Aunt, you're too kind. Lingrong still needs to learn a lot." She gently held Aunt Fangfei's hand and said sincerely, "Only with Aunt's guidance can Lingrong continue to improve."
Aunt Fangfei nodded slowly, her eyes gleaming with wisdom. She gently stroked An Lingrong's hand and said earnestly, "My lady, your modesty is truly rare. However, the palace is like a deep sea, with undercurrents surging. My lady must remain vigilant at all times."
A glint of shrewdness flashed across An Lingrong's eyes. She leaned forward slightly, her voice soft but tinged with urgency, "Auntie, your teachings are quite profound. I've heard that the ladies in the palace are not easy to get along with. How should I respond?"
Aunt Fangfei glanced around to make sure no one was eavesdropping, then lowered her voice and said, "My lady is very perceptive. You must be especially wary of Concubine Hua, as she has a fiery temper. The next time you encounter her, you must be cautious and careful with your words and actions."
An Lingrong's eyes flickered with interest. She frowned slightly and asked softly, "Empress Hua? I've heard she's the most favored by the Emperor. Could it be that even the Emperor can't do anything to her?"
Aunt Fangfei sighed deeply, a look of worry on her face: "Empress Hua has a strong foundation and is extremely favored by the Emperor. Even the Empress has to be polite to her."
An Lingrong nodded thoughtfully, a flicker of determination in her eyes. "Thank you for your advice, Auntie. I will proceed with caution and plan every step carefully."
She paused for a moment, her eyes revealing an earnest look as she softly asked, "Aunt, could you please explain the palace rules to me in detail? I'm new to the palace, and I really don't understand a lot."
Aunt Fangfei's eyes flashed with approval, and a kind smile played on her lips. She gently patted An Lingrong's hand, her tone firm yet gentle: "My lady, rest assured. I will tell you everything I know."
After seeing Aunt Fangfei off, An Lingrong's mask dropped instantly. She slowly walked to the window, holding onto the frame with both hands, and stared at the towering palace walls in the distance.
"Oh, Hua Fei?" She whispered to herself, a sharp glint in her eyes and a hint of disdain in her voice, "She's just a clown."
An Lingrong turned, her skirt drawing an elegant arc on the floor. She walked gracefully to the dressing table and slowly sat down. Her delicate face was reflected in the mirror. She stared at herself, her eyes deep and her thoughts racing.
"Because the plot was changed ahead of time, I haven't had any interaction with Zhen Huan, Shen Meizhuang, and the others yet." She muttered to herself, tapping her fingers lightly on the table. "But I know very well that as Yinzhen's white moonlight substitute, Zhen Huan will definitely be favored."
An Lingrong stood up and walked to the bedside. "If that's the case," she said in a low, firm voice, "I'm going to get pregnant while Zhen Huan is still favored. Letting her lead the charge will make things easier for me."
Suddenly, she remembered something and the corners of her mouth rose slightly.
"Fortunately, I gave the method of treating smallpox with cowpox to An Bihuai before I left." She said to herself with a hint of pride in her tone.
