Demonic Dao Fanfiction: Protecting You from Worries for a Lifetime
Chapter 12: Pick a Character
Just as they were about to leave, two ethereal spirits suddenly appeared near their corpses. Slowly, they coalesced into form, their faces blurred but reminiscent of the familiar. They were none other than the parents Wei Ying missed day and night. Their eyes were gentle and loving, as if they had crossed the line between life and death just to see their child once more.
"Ah Ying..." A female voice, as gentle as a breeze, brushed past his ears, carrying with it an endless tenderness and reluctance. Wei Ying looked up suddenly, tears blurring his vision once again, but that familiar voice, like a ray of sunshine on a winter's day, instantly warmed his heart.
"Dad and Mom..." He called out, his voice choking with sobs, a mixture of unbelievable surprise and long-suppressed grief. He reached out a trembling hand, wanting to touch the two illusory figures, but was afraid they were just illusions, and would dissipate at the touch.
The two spirits slowly approached, their faces becoming clearer through Wei Ying's tears. They were faces he had seen countless times in his dreams, faces that held the most tender care in his heart. His father's face was stern yet tinged with fatigue, while his mother's eyes were filled with tenderness and love. They stood silently before Wei Ying, as if time had completely stood still.
Chaoyang was also stunned. Although he had seen many strange things, this was the first time he had seen such a clear manifestation of souls. Moreover, when he had just broken the formation, he had clearly felt that it was a soul-destroying formation. He never thought that their souls still existed.
He couldn't help but speak out loud what was in his heart.
Wei Ying's mother, appearing in spirit form, her face gentle and sorrowful, sighed softly upon hearing this, her eyes revealing a complex mix of emotions. She spoke slowly, "That Soul-Destroying Formation did intend to completely dissipate our souls from the world. It was the whisk Master gave me that protected us."
Upon hearing this, Chaoyang nodded to show that he understood.
"Uncle..." There was a slight tremor in Wei Ying's voice. He turned to look at Chaoyang, with both doubt and pleading in his eyes, as if asking whether all this was true, or seeking some kind of confirmation.
Chaoyang took a deep breath, trying to calm the shock in his heart. He nodded slowly, his voice steady and firm: "Yes, Aying, they... are still there."
At that moment, the air seemed to freeze, leaving only the silent exchange between Wei Ying and his parents. Wei Ying's tears flowed again, but this time, they were a mixture of joy and sorrow. With trembling hands, he slowly took a step forward, almost unable to believe what he was seeing.
"Dad and Mom, are you really... still here?" Wei Ying's voice was choked, and every word seemed to be squeezed out from the bottom of his heart.
The two souls nodded gently. The mother's soul gently raised her hand, as if wanting to touch Wei Ying's face, but her fingertips only touched the cold air, leaving behind a trace of invisible tenderness. "Aying, mother is here." Her voice was gentle and clear, penetrating the boundary between life and death and reaching the depths of Wei Ying's heart.
Wei Ying's tears welled up like a spring. He could no longer suppress his inner excitement and rushed forward. Although he knew he couldn't truly hug his parents, his heart was comforted like never before. He could almost feel the warmth of his parents' embrace, and that familiar touch rippled through the depths of his soul.
Chaoyang set up a soundproof barrier on Wei Ying.
Wei Changze said gratefully, "Sir, you are so kind to adopt my son. I am deeply grateful."
"You're welcome. It's just a small favor. I hope you don't mind having an extra brother." Chaoyang said jokingly.
Wei Changze suddenly realized why Wei Ying had just called him "uncle".
Cangse Sanren smiled gently, tears and happiness glistening in his eyes. "Why would we mind? Wei Ying is lucky to have an uncle like you. We only hope that he can live a peaceful and smooth life, have good intentions, and live up to his youth. As for us, our greatest wish is that he can grow up happily, free from worldly constraints, and soar freely between heaven and earth."
Upon hearing this, Chao Yang nodded gently, his eyes deep and warm. He then asked, "My surname is Chao, my given name is Yang. I'm a cultivator like you. What are your plans for the future?"
"My wife and I were harmed by others because of our poor judgment of people, and now our souls have returned to another world. Although we are unwilling to accept this, we also understand that things in the world are impermanent. We only hope that he can fly freely between heaven and earth and live out his true self. Master Chaoyang, we entrust Wei Ying's future to you. We hope that you can give him protection and let him shine with his own dazzling light under your guidance." Wei Changze's heart was filled with self-blame and sorrow. If he had not been so blind at the beginning, how could I let my beloved wife and I die together, and let my young son be left alone and helpless. Fortunately, the master rescued me, otherwise my son would have fallen into the hands of others and been at their mercy. I will never forget this kindness. "
Chaoyang gazed at Wei Ying, who had fallen asleep in tears in his arms, and whispered, "Let's give him a courtesy name!" Although he already knew Wei Ying's courtesy name in his heart, he still had a hope that this name would be given by his parents themselves, rather than just being inherited silently as a legacy in his memory.
Her gentle gaze fell on Wei Ying's sleeping face, and her heart was filled with indescribable emotions. She spoke softly, as if afraid to disturb the tranquility: "Let's call him Wuxian. May he live a carefree life and be free and at peace."
"Wuxian, Wuxian..." Chaoyang silently chanted the name, a gentle smile playing on his lips. He knew full well that this name not only carried the most sincere wishes of Wei Ying's parents for him—that he could walk the world unburdened by fame and fortune, untrammeled by the mundane, forever maintaining his innocence and freedom.
"What a wonderful name, Wuxian, Wei Wuxian," Chaoyang repeated softly, as if conveying this blessing from his parents to the sleeping Wei Ying. He looked at Wei Changze and Cangse Sanren. Although their souls were blurry, their eyes were filled with determination and expectation.
Chaoyang nodded slightly, his eyes gleaming with a gentle light, his tone filled with warmth and care: "You two should enter this soul-nourishing jade pendant first."
When Wei Changze and Cangse Sanren slowly stepped into the soul-nourishing jade pendant that was as warm and smooth as jade, the light dimmed slightly, as if two wisps of smoke merged into the endless tranquility.
He only held Wei Ying with one hand, and cast a spell with the other hand to take out the whisk and two swords buried deep in the ground. However, no matter how he searched, he could not find their storage bags. Perhaps they were picked up and taken away by the person who killed them.
"Aying, uncle will take you home now." Uncle said gently, while carefully putting away the coffin on the ground, as if treating a precious treasure.
He gently held Wei Ying in his arms, feeling his gentle breathing and warm body temperature. He then cast a sleeping spell and covered himself with his cloak, ensuring that Wei Ying wouldn't be disturbed or cold. Then, he flew off towards home.
Their current home lies deep in a forest, secluded from the hustle and bustle of life, surrounded by dense trees and lush vegetation. It doesn't belong to any family, and feels like a forgotten wilderness. The silence is broken only by the occasional chirping of birds and the rustling of leaves in the wind, creating a sense of detachment. Though pristine, the environment is filled with natural tranquility and harmony, like a paradise far removed from the hustle and bustle of the world.
It was given a beautiful name by the rising sun - "Chuchen".
