Witch Special

Chapter 5: First Encounter with the "Company"

Company... The reason why only the word "company" is used to refer specifically to the place where Lin Zhenxi works is because it really has no other name. Even the building where it is located does not have anything special that can be pointed out.

Just because it looks like a silver rectangle, we can't call it Yinlou or Ginza? The former doesn't sound nice, and the latter is a blatant infringement of the copyright.

In short, this was a towering building that stood out even among the skyscrapers of New Blue City. And unlike other buildings adorned with advertising slogans and corporate logos, the company's exterior was pristine, a single, mirror-like silver-white hue. From a distance, the company resembled a giant silver block, sticking squarely out of place in New Blue City.

This strange building, which is both very special and has no distinctive features, is the "company", where Lin Zhenxi has worked for ten years.

Such a unique building standing in the city should have been quite out of place. However, after all these years, no one has mentioned changing the company's style or remodeling the surrounding buildings to resemble the company's. While the other skyscrapers in New Blue City are all dazzlingly bright with neon lights, causing overwhelming light pollution at night, the company, one of the tallest buildings in New Blue City, has maintained its simple style for ten years. This is quite strange.

This building's uniqueness extends far beyond its exterior. It's completely encased in a silvery-white curtain wall, making even the main entrance impossible to find without a guide. Anyone attempting to breach the exterior wall to gain access would discover the incredibly durable, reflective silver-white cladding. A few years ago, a car spun out of control and crashed directly into the company. While the car was shattered into pieces, including the driver, the exterior remained unscathed. Once the accident scene was cleaned up, the curtain wall was wiped clean and looked like new.

This extremely powerful protective capability is indeed impressive enough.

Lin Zhenxi brought Kanari to the company's curtain wall. Finding a spot, she pulled out her personal terminal, held it in her hand, and extended it toward the outer wall. The wall silently sank inward, forming a white portal of light. Simultaneously, a message indicating identity verification had been passed appeared on Lin Zhenxi's personal terminal.

Lin Zhenxi put away his personal terminal, turned to Kanali, who was staring blankly at the light gate in front of her, and said, "Go in, together."

Although Kanari wasn't used to the constant traffic on the streets, she seemed remarkably receptive to this clearly supernatural phenomenon. This portal would have undoubtedly caused a public outcry if the company hadn't blocked it, but Kanari's reaction wasn't even as shocking as the sight of cars filling the streets.

Maybe, something similar exists in its world?

This wasn't impossible. After all, the universe was full of wonders, and with so many aliens, there had to be some from advanced civilizations that had already developed sophisticated portal technology. Aliens brought with them a wealth of advanced, even advanced, technologies, but mastering them was not easy for Earthlings. The technology tree had to be coherent; even a single break wouldn't restore a single advanced technology. While Earth civilization had seen a tremendous technological advancement over the past decade thanks to the aliens, achieving advanced technologies like teleportation remained a distant dream, a distant goal. For now, at least, there was no hope of achieving it.

The portal on the company building was clearly a highly advanced, exotic artifact. However, Lin Zhenxi used it to commute to get off work every day, seeing it every day, so naturally, she no longer felt it was particularly impressive. She had long since ignored its mystery and inscrutable nature, and had simply accepted it as part of her life.

After all, I'm used to it... I'll get used to it.

Because Kanari's situation had been reported through the company's business platform, Lin Zhenxi smoothly brought Kanari into the company. With a flash of white light, the two of them arrived at the company's largest public area - the reception hall.

The entire space was dominated by silver and white. Bright, soft natural light filtered through the high, translucent dome, providing ample illumination throughout. Behind a large, circular reception desk stood dozens of receptionists of varying races. Not only humans, but also orcs, half-orcs, elves, robots, and, of course, all manner of other strange creatures, like tree people and dolphins...

Aliens are all intelligent creatures, but they are not necessarily humanoid. This can be clearly seen in the company's front desk receptionists. In order to make guests feel at home, the company hired receptionists of many different races to cover all types of aliens to the greatest extent possible.

Right above the reception desk, a large milky white ball of light was floating quietly. Information was constantly being generated and disappearing on it, surrounding the main body of the large white ball, making it look like countless halos were nested there.

That ball of light is not just for decoration, it is the company's central processor. All the company's information is processed in this big white ball.

At the same time, it also serves as a time-space anchor, providing a location-based function. For special correspondents on official business, this large white ball is like the safety rope tied around their waists when bungee jumping, or the parachute pack carried by paratroopers when they jump out of the cabin, providing the final guarantee to ensure their return home.

Beyond the reception counter, the back half of the lobby reveals a seemingly endless stretch of reception windows, dotted on either side. Numerous and diverse creatures, both humanoid and non-humanoid, line up in an orderly fashion before their respective windows. In the central lounge area, a crocodile in a fur coat pored over a newspaper, while two shadowy figures sat next to him, conversing in a manner incomprehensible to others. A tiny, one-eyed figure, dressed as a waiter, dodged the feet of these "giants" with a tray in both hands, struggling to deliver the cups to his customers.

In short, it was a busy scene, even as lively as the street scene outside.

It was still early in the morning, and the company had just begun to handle business. There weren't many people here yet, and most of them were in a hurry to get their business done. It wasn't until after ten o'clock that the place really started to get busy.

Lin Zhenxi patted the stunned Kanari's shoulder and led her to the receptionist, a cat-like creature with ears and hair on its face. Pushing Kanari's shoulder in front of the receptionist, Lin Zhenxi said to the customer service representative behind the counter, "This is a new arrival today. Please greet her."

"Okay, leave it to us." The cat-orc customer service representative, who was wearing a skirt and a colorful bow tie around her neck, nodded and smiled, and took out a headband from her counter.

After comparing the headband in her hand with the width of Kanali's skull, she gave an awkward yet polite smile, silently put the headband back in her hand, and replaced it with a larger one.

Kanali took the new headband and looked at Lin Zhenxi, the only person who could communicate with her, with confusion. Lin Zhenxi was too lazy to speak, so she simply grabbed the headband and put it on her head, which was more than a circle larger than the cat orc customer service.

"This is a translator. Now you can understand what I am saying, right?" Lin Zhenxi said after confirming that the headband was firmly on Kanali's head and would not fall off.

Of course, the language used was the Chinese she was accustomed to, rather than the fragmented foreign native language she had learned from Kanali's memory.

Kanali's face was visibly shocked, and her entire face turned into a (°Д°) shape. Then, she opened her mouth and said a lot of nonsense.

However, what it said was automatically replaced by the translator. Its vocal organ is no longer the vocal cords, but the built-in speaker in the translator on its head.

"It really works, this is much more convenient!" A clear girl's voice came from the translator above Kanali's head.

The translator captures the vibrations of the soul, and what it emits is naturally the sound of the soul. No matter how a person's appearance changes, his or her soul cannot be faked.

Conclusion: this cat beastman is indeed a female, and very young.

"Now that we can communicate, the rest of the process will be much easier. You're a new alien from another world, and Earth is a completely unfamiliar environment for you. We can't be sure if you can survive in Earth's ecosystem. We also need to check if you carry any bacteria or microorganisms that are harmful to Earth's life. Therefore, the company needs to give you a comprehensive body cleansing, followed by a physical examination. Once this series of procedures are completed, you can live peacefully on Earth."

"I won't get involved in this matter. Someone will come to pick you up. Cooperate well and don't cause any trouble. We have many aliens like you who come here from other worlds every day. You are not special, and these procedures are not specifically for you. Every alien must go through them."

"Well, I hope that when I see you next time, you've found your place in life. Let me give you a piece of advice: those who don't work, don't eat. The earth won't support idlers. If you want to live a good life, you must work, even if you are from another world."

After saying this, Lin Zhenxi patted the shoulder of Kanali, the real cat girl, ignored Kanali's reluctant expression, and turned away.

She was only responsible for bringing Kanali to the company. It was not her job to receive new foreign visitors.
