Chapter 44 Lions and Orangutans
The first to emerge from the darkness was a massive lion. Though it walked upright like the other strange creatures, its face was covered in a mane, and its massive tail whipped vigorously behind it, making a dull thud every time it collided with the wall or floor. Its sharp claws left a trail of shallow white marks on the ground as it stalked.
When it finally emerged and stood upright, a powerful sense of oppression overwhelmed me. This lion must have weighed two tons, standing over three meters tall. It wore a black shirt with furs on its shoulders, a leopard-print cloth tied around its waist, and a thick iron chain belt with a lion-head buckle. Its wrists and ankles were clad in wide iron rings of unknown purpose, and two armbands clung to its biceps, which were as thick as buckets. The overall style of the painting was wild and rugged, full of power.
But compared with the other monster that appeared from another direction, this lion monster seemed nothing.
The strange figure circling behind Saitama was a massive gorilla draped in thick armor. Beyond the armor, the gorilla's body had undergone extensive transformation, transforming it into a cyborg. Its interior and exterior were inlaid with a vast quantity of unknown alloy, its entire body reflecting a metallic sheen. Beneath the visor of its full-face helmet, two intimidating red lights flickered quietly like candlelight.
With the same stature, this gorilla, including its equipment, probably weighed twice as much as the lion king. Body weight is often directly linked to strength.
The two little giants, both over three meters tall, sandwiched Saitama in the middle, one in front and one behind. No one spoke first, but the two monster leaders looked at Saitama as if they were looking at a fat pig waiting to be slaughtered.
Those previously foul-mouthed minions, upon seeing their boss appear, immediately scattered like birds, hiding in what they thought was a safe place, leaving room for the big guys to strike. The boss was powerful, but the bald guy was no weakling either. If they got caught in the fight, they would probably be killed or crippled.
As luck would have it, they'd ended up right below Lin Zhenxi's apartment building. They couldn't see it, but right above them, a magical sentry stared intently at the backs of their heads. And beneath them, a magical mine was already activated. Lin Zhenxi only needed to think to detonate it, sending it flying more than ten meters into the air before scattering it evenly across the ground like flowers scattered by a fairy.
However, these minions themselves are not the main point. Once Saitama's battle is over, it won't be too late for Lin Zhenxi to deal with these insignificant and weak monsters. As for now, just watch the show.
After staring at the lion in front of him in silence for a long time, Saitama suddenly took off his gloves and used his little finger to clean his ears. Then he put the gloves back on and said impatiently, "The circus can't support a lion as big as you. Tell me what you want to do. You've delayed my schedule today. You're really annoying."
"You actually still treat us as a circus! Human, I don't think you'll cry until you see the coffin." The big lion monster in front of Saitama opened its bloody mouth and roared at Saitama. The sound waves of the roar brought up wind and waves, pulling Saitama's cloak frantically.
But Saitama was like a nail firmly nailed to the ground, not moving an inch. Even after the lion monster's lung capacity was exhausted, he wiped his bald head, looked at the sticky spit on his gloves, and put on a mask of pain, his face full of disgust.
"Why are you spitting at people? It's disgusting, don't you know that?"
The lion monster was choked by Saitama again, and his anger meter finally exploded. He didn't understand why this bald man in front of him, this tiny human, could ignore his threats again and again. How dare he!
"Damn human, die for me." After saying that, the lion monster raised his claws high and slapped Saitama on the head.
The claws easily cut through the air, spreading out to form three large, sharp wind blades, which first hit Saitama from top to bottom. The beast claws followed closely, colliding firmly with Saitama's head.
The violent airflow exploded with Saitama as the center and scattered in all directions. A figure was pushed backward by the huge force, and his legs plowed two deep grooves on the stone brick ground.
The Iron Gorilla caught Saitama from behind, and his two big hands, which could wield telephone poles like golf clubs, tightly gripped his body, his muscles bulging, as if he was going to tear Saitama in half in the next second.
"Gorilla, he is my prey. If you interfere, I will kill you later." The lion monster waved his hand to disperse the smoke and dust around him, and roared again with his loud voice that could shake off the leaves.
The Iron Gorilla who was holding Saitama let out a "tsk" sound, loosened his grip on Saitama, took a few steps back, and left the battlefield.
"Lion King, don't let your boat capsize in the ditch."
Saitama's body bore no visible wounds from the previous attack; it was clear the lion monster's claws hadn't been able to penetrate his defenses. However, his battle suit, made of ordinary wear-resistant material, clearly couldn't withstand such a high-intensity attack. With a crackling sound, three long rips appeared on Saitama's suit, revealing his muscular body beneath.
"Ah, my clothes are ruined." Saitama felt a pang of regret, but not much anger. Ever since he went completely bald, the monsters he encountered could no longer injure him. Over time, the idea of dodging seemed to have vanished from his mind, and he simply refused to dodge, no matter what attack came his way. Since he wouldn't be hurt by a hit anyway, and there wasn't even a mandatory "-1" bonus, why bother dodging? Wouldn't it be simpler and more pleasant to just punch them back and make them vanish?
This also led to a very high rate of damage to Saitama's clothes, which would often tear after just two days. If the tear was small, he would mend it himself at home using the sewing machine in the corner, but if it was a large tear, he would have to send it to a tailor to exchange it for a new one. Fortunately, he also knew a tailor shop owner who supported his heroic career. He thought he was just a kind-hearted "good neighbor" hero similar to the unlicensed knight, who didn't have strong abilities but had a warm heart. He sold him a lot of replacement combat uniforms at a discount (in fact, they were too ugly to sell at all), which allowed Saitama to maintain his image while pursuing his heroic career.
He'd taken a solid hit from his own Lion Slash, yet remained unscathed, still feeling sorry for his clothes. Saitama's arrogance infuriated the Lion Monster, turning his eyes bloodshot. His body also expanded several times in anger, surpassing the four-meter mark in height. Saitama, only 1.7 meters tall, wasn't even as tall as the Lion Monster's thigh after the frenzy.
"Are you...looking down on me?" The lion monster exhaled a breath of hot white air, and the temperature of his body surface rose rapidly, and faint golden glowing particles emerged.
Lin Zhenxi's magic outpost was still eavesdropping on the chatter of those weird minions at the wall downstairs, and they were acting as tour guides very competently, muttering things like "The Lion King is burning blood!", "I bet that bald guy can't block the first hit!", "Not just one hit, I think he can withstand five hits.", "Are you crazy? You know the power of the Lion King's Lion Slashing Flow Group, it can even cut the sealed door of the base into pieces, how can human flesh and blood withstand that attack. In my opinion, that bald guy is dead." They even had a small quarrel with each other, which made the eavesdropping Lin Zhenxi very happy.
These little minions aren't very powerful, but they are great at making people laugh. They really shouldn't come here to do bad things. Dressing up and performing crosstalk on TV would be much more promising.
At this time, the Lion King had completed the accumulation of power for his ultimate move, assumed a suitable posture for exerting force, and locked onto the bald man in front of him in a hunting posture.
Lin Zhenxi was surprised to find that the Lion King, who was originally a Muggle, was highly concentrated at this time, and his mind was unprecedentedly active. After squeezing the potential of his body, his brain actually released an invisible spiritual power that enveloped his whole body.
Although it wasn't magic power, but pure mental strength, that mental force had a similar effect to that of magical enhancement. Under the cover of mental power, the lion's body was comprehensively strengthened and protected, allowing it to unleash its full potential without worrying about muscle tearing from excessive force.
Normal magic enhancement actually stimulates the human body's potential to the limit, and even exceeds this theoretical limit, but the part that truly bursts out power is still the muscles themselves, not magic.
But, that Lion King was clearly a Muggle just a second ago. Where did that spiritual power come from? And from what those weirdos were saying, the Lion King's current state was controllable; he could freely choose whether to enter it.
Mental strength isn't something that suddenly appears due to nervousness or excitement; that's called adrenaline. While it can allow a person to exert strength close to the physical limit, it can never surpass it. However, strengthening magic power can break through limits, even completely trample them underfoot, allowing for any degree of transcendence.
Lin Zhenxi suddenly became extremely curious about the organization behind this group of weirdos. The technology of this organization seemed to be of some value.
