Chapter 43: The House of Evolution Arrives
Although Saitama decided to register as a hero the next day, plans never keep up with changes. After many days, a sneak attack specifically targeting Saitama and Hayashi Maki finally came to their door.
Remember the day Hayashi Maki first spoke to Saitama? A mosquito girl appeared with a swarm of mosquitoes that covered the sky, intent on sucking the blood of everyone in City Z dry. But she died before she could even leave the abandoned city. Hayashi Maki ignited her, leaving her completely destitute. Then, Saitama slapped her to death, leaving her blood scattered evenly across the ground.
Well, no one should forget it, after all, the mosquito girl has such a nice figure...
Ahem, I've gotten off track. Anyway, after so many days, and with no idea what delayed them, the monster organization behind Mosquito Girl finally sent their subordinates to cause trouble for Hayashi Maki and Saitama. Furthermore, they arrived surprisingly early.
Early that morning, Lin Maki was still snuggled in bed when she was awakened by the magic sentry in her own magic formation. Grumpy, she pushed her long hair out of her face and fumbled for her wand. Drawing a circle in mid-air, she connected the sentry's field of vision. From the sentry perched atop the apartment building, Lin Maki saw a swarm of bizarre-looking creatures gathered below Saitama's balcony, uttering a series of tongue-twisting sounds and shouting frantically.
Lin Zhenxi could only describe these creatures as "creatures" because, aside from standing on two legs, they bore no resemblance to humans. While they could all deftly use the universal language of this world to bark and provoke, in Lin Zhenxi's view, they were simply a group of animals endowed with human intelligence.
There were toads and lion dogs standing on their hind legs like humans, a humanoid mantis wielding its two large mantis knives like butterfly knives, a slug without feet that stubbornly tied an apron around its lower body, and a frog wearing cotton pants and slippers... What a chaotic scene it was.
However, these guys were only targeting Saitama for the time being and did not come to harass Lin Maki, so Lin Maki had no desire to take action. She simply slowly put on her clothes while staring at the picture in the magic mirror, paying attention to the development of the situation on the other side of the camera.
The noise of these weirdos soon attracted Saitama. Suddenly, a bald man with a gleaming light emerged from the balcony and shouted angrily to the people below: "If you want to fight, please stay away from other people's homes. You're disturbing their rest!"
"Now! Give me your head!" Just as Saitama poked his head out, the mantis man who was originally mixed in the crowd suddenly stepped on the wall at an extremely fast speed, made a big circle, jumped down from right above Saitama, and chopped down Saitama's neck with the sickles in his hands.
Lin Zhenxi narrowed his eyes, suppressing his surprise. The mantis man was incredibly fast. Lin Zhenxi hadn't had time to use magic to enhance his vision, so he couldn't even see how it got to Saitama's head. He could only barely make out a green shadow darting around the wall.
But no matter how fast it was, it was useless, because the blow that could easily cut through steel was as weak as a plastic toy when it cut Saitama's neck, and it didn't even scratch Saitama's skin.
The giant mantis, still unconvinced, straightened its legs and hung itself upside down on the eaves of Saitama's balcony. Gnashing its teeth, it slashed Saitama's neck twice more with its serrated sickle. The result was the same: it didn't break through his defense at all.
"What are you doing? That's rude, don't you understand?" Saitama raised his hand and slapped the Mantis Man across the face. The Mantis Man's head was like a watermelon being hit by a baseball bat, instantly shattering into countless pieces. The disgusting red and green blood and brain matter gushed out, drenching the other animal monsters below who hadn't yet made a move, making them smell and fishy.
After casually killing the first monster that jumped out, Saitama shook off the Mantis Man debris on his hands and showed a disgusted expression.
"Are you animals from some circus? I don't care if you have an owner or not. If you disturb my rest again, I'll make an example of you."
The monsters below were stunned by Saitama's brutal attack. They knew the strength of the Mantis Man. He was an assassin with a near-instant kill, and his offensive power was among the best among their minions. They were clamoring downstairs to give the Mantis Man an opportunity for a sneak attack. However, the Mantis Man confidently attacked, but embarrassingly, he didn't even scratch the man's skin. Could this be attributed to the Mantis Man's own lack of skill?
No, this only indirectly shows that the bald man who doesn't seem to intend to kill them all is ridiculously strong!
Even though they were so frightened that their legs were shaking, none of these monster minions fled. Just when Saitama thought he had successfully subdued them and was about to go back to the house to wash his hands, these monsters suddenly found the courage to point at Saitama and curse him. Saitama's bald head in particular became the focus of their ridicule.
Saitama hated being called bald. He used to have a thick, dark forest of hair. But after he started training, his hair became a sacrifice to his strength, becoming increasingly thinner as he grew stronger. By the time he became truly invincible, the last wisp of hair on his head had officially said goodbye. Now, those ant-like weirdos dared to use his hair as a tool. This was truly intolerable.
Since they are seeking death, Saitama doesn't mind giving them a one-way ticket to hell.
Saitama flashed, quickly changing into the white cape and yellow jumpsuit he wore for his heroic activities. As if teleporting, he appeared behind the two geeks who had been hurling the most insults, and pinned their heads to the ground. With a loud thud, rubble shot up into the air, and the geeks' heads were buried deep in the paving stones, their bodies turned upside down, resembling two upside-down scallions.
"Can't you keep your mouth shut? Did I provoke you?" Saitama asked coldly with a gloomy face as he looked at the other monsters around him who were already cowering and not daring to come forward.
At this moment, two sharp claws suddenly pierced the ground beside Saitama's feet and tightly grasped Saitama's calf.
"Hey, hey, I've got you, you can't get away." A dull voice came from the ground. Then, the owner of the sharp claws suddenly exerted force and pulled Saitama underground, leaving only his head exposed.
Then, a mole wearing a miner's helmet broke out of the ground next to Saitama's head, bent its body and grinned at Saitama, pointing its sharp claws at Saitama's eyes, as if intending to poke him blind.
"Get out of the way, you are no match for him." Someone suddenly said in the dark.
The mole monster subconsciously shuddered at the sound of the newcomer. Although he suspected the voice's owner was out to steal his credit, years of accumulated prestige still made him choose to back down. He shrank his neck, lowered his head, and prepared to dig a hole through the ground to leave.
But Saitama walked out of the soil in front of it, scaring its pea-sized eyes so much that they widened.
No, only your head is exposed, and your whole body is trapped in the mud. Shouldn't you be unable to move? Why do I feel like you are no different from being on the ground?
"My hands and feet can move. Besides, why should I run? You guys are making a lot of noise and cursing downstairs of my house. Do you really think I won't be angry?"
As Saitama's tone intensified, his aura began to rise. This was most clearly felt by the Mole Man standing before Saitama. It now felt that the person standing before it was not a human at all, but a deep abyss, unfathomable, unreachable, indescribable, and unimaginable.
The next second, the Mole Man's eyes rolled back, and he fell down with his belly facing the sky. He began to twitch and foam at the mouth. It seemed that he was frightened and started to have a seizure.
This made Saitama feel a little embarrassed. He hadn't even raised his hand yet, so how could the person be lying on the ground? Could he have been scammed?
"Hey, I didn't touch you. I'm telling you, if you want me to pay you, I won't give you a penny. What happens to you has nothing to do with me. Hurry up and get up. I won't hold it against you for soiling my clothes. Please don't lie here, okay?"
Saitama was merely stunned, but the monster leader hiding behind the scenes couldn't stand it anymore. Even if he knew his men were useless, they couldn't be this useless, could they? He was frightened into lying down just by someone saying something harsh. If this were to be made public, it would be embarrassing for not only you but also for us.
You idiot, you dig holes and burrow into the ground. No one will be able to find you when the time comes, but you have brought shame to our "House of Evolution".
This place must be taken back. The Mole Man's shameful behavior will naturally be dealt with by the master when they return to the base, but now, they must let Saitama know that their "House of Evolution" is a powerful monster organization, not a circus troupe!
Anyone who touches their home of evolution will have to pay with blood, no matter who it is.
