Chapter 409 Spiritual Phage
The afterimage of the mind-devouring body dissipated into the air. Kyle glanced around sharply, a dark aura looming at his fingertips. He reached out and grabbed Rosie's wrist, not with much force, but with an unyielding grip.
"This is just the appetizer." Kyle said in a low voice, a hint of vigilance flashing in his amber eyes, "The real danger of the alien domain is still to come."
The Heart of Poseidon on Rosie's chest felt slightly warm, and she subconsciously touched her abdomen. Although the children had been born safely, the protective instinct still existed.
"We need to find a safe place," she whispered, her eyes fixed on Caesar. The little fellow had just transformed from dragon form back into human form, his face pale, and it was obvious that the battle had just taken a lot of his energy.
Kyle nodded, his eyes scanning the distant horizon: "There's light over there."
Rosie looked in the direction he pointed, and sure enough, she saw a faint blue light flickering in the distance.
"Let's go." Kyle said briefly and took the lead.
Rosie took Caesar's hand, and the little boy looked up stubbornly: "I'm not tired."
"I know." Rosie smiled, "But Mommy wants to hold your hand."
Caesar blinked and clasped Rosie's fingers tightly with his little hands.
The three of them advanced along the blue-purple grass, each step creating faint ripples of fluorescent light. Kyle walked in front, his black robe swaying gently in the breeze. He was like a sword unsheathed, ready to slash any obstacle before him.
"Dad is awesome," Caesar whispered, his amber eyes sparkling.
Luo Xi smiled: "You are also very powerful. If it weren't for you just now, we might have been devoured by that spiritual devourer."
Caesar puffed out his chest and said, "I said I would protect Mom."
Ahead, Kyle suddenly stopped and raised his hand to signal. Rosie immediately grabbed Caesar and looked around warily.
"What's wrong?" she asked softly.
Kyle didn't answer, but pointed to a protruding rock in front of him on the left: "There."
Rosie squinted her eyes and saw a cave entrance vaguely behind the rock, covered in blue moss, almost blending in with the surrounding environment.
"Hide there for now," Kyle said briefly. "I'll go check the surroundings."
Rosie nodded and pulled Caesar toward the cave. The entrance was small, requiring a slight bow to pass through, but the interior was surprisingly spacious. Glistening blue moss covered the rock walls, dotting the night sky like stars, providing a soft illumination throughout the cave. The air was refreshingly moist, yet lacked the chill and decaying smells one might have expected.
Rosie took Caesar to a relatively flat surface deep in the cave. She carefully wiped the dust off the ground with her sleeve before letting Caesar sit down.
"Mom, it's so beautiful here." Caesar stretched out his little hand and curiously touched the glowing moss on the wall. As his fingers approached, the moss trembled slightly, and the fluorescence grew stronger, as if it were alive and responding to his touch.
Rosie quickly grabbed her son's wrist and said, "Don't touch it, it might be poisonous." She remembered that some beautiful creatures on Earth often harbor hidden dangers, let alone this strange alien land.
Caesar pouted, but obediently withdrew his hand and moved to sit next to Rosie. His amber eyes were particularly bright under the blue light, sparkling with undiminished curiosity.
"Mom, will we find the holy relic?" Caesar asked in a low voice, his voice trembling slightly, perhaps because of nervousness or excitement.
Luo Xi stroked his black hair: "Yes. The Heart of Poseidon has already sensed it." She placed her hand on her chest and could feel the Heart of Poseidon warming up slightly, as if responding to a call from afar.
Caesar nodded, then suddenly frowned again: "That monster, why did it attack us?"
Rosie thought for a moment: "Maybe it's because we are outsiders." She didn't want to scare the child, but she didn't want to lie to him either.
"So will we encounter more monsters?"
"Maybe." Rosie answered honestly, "But don't be afraid, Daddy is here, and I'm here, we will protect you."
Outside the cave, Kyle's figure was like a flash of black lightning, darting through the strange landscape of the alien world. His movements were so swift that they were almost invisible, leaving only a series of luminous footprints on the blue-purple grass, like shooting stars across the night sky.
Rosie quietly waited for Kyle's return, her fingers unconsciously stroking the Heart of Poseidon, feeling its faint pulse. She gazed at the alien landscape beyond the cave entrance. Three moons shone against the violet sky, like a mysterious eye guarding this land.
Ten minutes later, Kyle returned to the cave, his face grim. His black robes were stained with blue dust, and his amber eyes gleamed with alertness.
"There's a place similar to a town five kilometers ahead, but I feel a strong energy fluctuation." He stood at the entrance of the cave, with the strange purple night sky of the alien star domain behind him.
Rosie stood up: "Is it an enemy?" She subconsciously stood in front of Caesar, her fingers ready to activate the power of the Heart of Poseidon.
Kyle shook his head: "Not sure. But we need intelligence and supplies." His voice was low and steady, giving Rosie an inexplicable sense of security.
Kyle walked over to Caesar and squatted down, looking at his son at eye level. Amber looked at Amber, and the eyes of father and son were surprisingly similar.
"If you encounter danger, you must transform immediately and protect yourself and your mother. Do you understand?"
"Understood!" Caesar straightened his back, his voice childish yet firm. The little boy's eyes gleamed with the same determination as his father's.
Luo Qian watched this scene, a warm feeling welling up in her heart. This father and son didn't talk much on a daily basis, sometimes even seeming distant, but in times of crisis, they had an amazing tacit understanding. Perhaps this was the power of blood.
"Don't worry, Mom." Caesar turned to Rosie, his little face full of seriousness. "I will protect you."
Rosie couldn't help but smile and ruffled her son's hair. This little guy had inherited Kyle's stubbornness and courage, as well as his unspoken concern.
"Let's rest for a while and leave after dark." Kyle stood up and walked to the cave entrance. With his back to Rosie and Caesar, he watched the outside world with vigilance. The moonlight outlined his tall figure, like a mountain that would never collapse.
Rosie sat down and let Caesar lean against her. The little boy soon fell asleep, his body rising and falling gently with his breathing, his little face looking particularly tender in the blue light of the moss.
She gently stroked her son's black hair, but her eyes were drawn to Kyle at the cave entrance. His back was so determined and lonely, as if he was born to take on the responsibility of guardianship.
"He's a lot like you." Rosie said softly, her voice so gentle that it almost melted into the air.
Kyle didn't turn around, but just tilted his face slightly, his amber eyes twinkling like stars in the darkness: "He is more like you."
Rosie smiled: "How is he like me?" Her fingers gently combed the black hair of Caesar who was sleeping soundly. The child's breathing was even and steady, which seemed particularly precious in this strange alien land.
"Looks docile, but actually very stubborn," Kyle replied briefly, his lips curled up slightly. It was a familiar, rare smile that only appeared in private moments. "When he gets stubborn, even I can't stop him."
"I inherited this from you." Rosie couldn't help but laugh, her voice filled with obvious pride. She remembered how Caesar had secretly followed her, and couldn't help but add, "Even his powers are exactly like yours. If it weren't for the strangeness of his dark powers, how could he have slipped away from Ling Yuan without making a sound? Don't you agree?"
Kyle didn't argue, merely casting a gentle glance at the sleeping Caesar. The dark-haired boy's brow furrowed slightly, as if he remained vigilant even in his dreams, much like his father as a child. Kyle turned and continued his vigilance, his back as straight as a pine tree, giving off an inexplicable sense of security.
Rosie leaned against the cave wall, her fingertips gently combing Caesar's soft black hair. This child had both her and Kyle's blood flowing through him, possessing the strength of the Black Dragon Clan and the warmth of humanity—a wonderful combination. The courage and strength Caesar had displayed in that sudden battle had completely exceeded her expectations, leaving her both relieved and proud.
"When he transformed into a dragon just now," Rosie said in a low voice, so that only the two of them could hear, "I saw that his scales were darker and shinier than last time. Like... like obsidian."
Kyle paused, stopping his movements. "During a black dragon's growth period, its strength increases dramatically. This is normal." His voice was low and steady, lacking any emotion, but Rosie caught a subtle hint of pride in it. "His talent may be even greater than mine. After all, he inherited your bloodline."
It was rare for Kyle to speak at such length, and Rosie couldn't help but curl up the corners of her mouth.
The Heart of Poseidon beat gently against Rosie's chest, sending a warm sensation through her every limb. This unfamiliar alien world should have filled her with fear and unease, but now, she felt an indescribable sense of familiarity, as if every inch of air was welcoming her back. Under the alien world's purple sky, the position of the three moons, the floating islands, even the blue fluorescent plants... everything was like a scene she had seen before, deeply etched in her memory.
"What are you thinking about?" Kyle had turned around at some point, his amber eyes staring at her quietly, as if he could see through all her thoughts.
Luo Qian subconsciously shook her head, at a loss for words for a moment. It felt like a wanderer finally returning home, or like a long-lost treasure finally found. The complex mixture of emotions left her feeling both excited and bewildered, and even... a hint of inexplicable grievance.
"It's like... coming home," she whispered, a hint of bewilderment and grievance in her tone that she herself hadn't even noticed. It was clearly her first time here, so why did she have such a strange feeling?
Kyle frowned slightly, his gaze falling on the Heart of Poseidon on her chest: "Is it because of the Heart of Poseidon?" There was a hint of inquiry in his voice.
"Maybe." Rosie looked down at her palms. The two holy objects, the Heart of Poseidon and the Ring of Eternity, lay quietly in her palms, emitting a soft light. "They seem to be guiding me."
Kyle was silent for a moment, then walked over to sit next to Rosie, placing his large hand on the back of her slightly cold hand. "No matter what lies ahead, we will face it together."
Rosie turned and met Kyle's gaze. His amber eyes, reflecting the blue glow of the fluorescent moss on the cave wall, were deep and gentle. They knew each other well, no words needed.
Caesar turned over in his dream, his little hands tightly grasping the corner of Rosie's clothes, mumbling: "Mom..."
Rosie's heart softened, and she reached out to pull the child into her arms. Kyle's arms wrapped around them, forming a protective circle. In this strange and dangerous alien land, this moment of warmth seemed especially precious.
"Rest." Kyle's voice was low and gentle, completely different from the cold marshal he usually was.
Rosie nodded and slowly closed her eyes. She could feel Kyle's heartbeat, strong and powerful, beating against her ears, and she felt strangely relieved.
In a daze, she felt the heart of the sea god warm slightly, as if responding to a call from afar...
Rosie suddenly opened her eyes and stared in the direction of the cave entrance.
There, beneath the purple sky, three moons hung quietly, emitting a cool glow. For some reason, she felt that glow held a hint of... anticipation?
"What's wrong?" Kyle noticed her strangeness and asked in a low voice.
Luo Xi shook her head and suppressed the inexplicable emotion in her heart: "It's okay, maybe I'm too nervous."
Kyle didn't say anything else, just hugged her tighter. His body temperature penetrated through the clothes, carrying a light, reassuring woody scent.
Rosie closed her eyes and forced herself not to think about all that mess.
Her most important task now is to find the holy object and then return safely to Taoyuan Star and be with her family.
After an unknown amount of time, Rosie fell asleep in Kyle's arms.
In her dream, she was standing on an endless blue grassland, with soft, fluorescent grass under her feet.
In the distance, a huge palace made of blue crystal stands quietly, emitting a soft light.
"Come...here..." A faint voice sounded in her ears, gentle and kind.
Rosie tried to find the source of the sound, but found she couldn't move.
She could only watch helplessly as the crystal palace got closer and closer...
"Sissi..."
