Chapter 387 A wave of unrest
The smell of blood filled the cave. Just as Luo Xi breathed a sigh of relief, she heard heavy breathing coming from outside the cave entrance. It wasn't human breathing, but more like the heavy breathing of some large animal.
Falcon raised his head sharply, his nostrils flaring. "Damn it!" he cursed softly, "The beast is coming."
Rosie's heartbeat quickened. "What beast?"
"Shh." Falcon raised his finger, signaling her to be quiet.
From outside the cave came the sound of claws scraping against rock, accompanied by the stench of rotting flesh. The smell grew stronger and stronger, almost making Rosie nauseous.
"It smells blood." Falcon's voice was tense, his eyes fixed on the cave entrance. "Hide behind me."
Luo Xi had just taken two steps back when a massive black shadow appeared at the cave entrance. It was a ferocious beast, over two meters tall, wolf-like but three times its size. Its body was covered in black scales, and its two front paws were exceptionally well-developed, their tips gleaming with a cold light. Its eyes, glowing green in the darkness, stared intently at the wound on Falcon's arm.
"Don't move." Falcon whispered, slowly standing up.
The beast growled deeply, baring its fangs. It took a step forward, its claws scraping harshly against the stone floor.
Falcon rushed forward and struck the beast in the head with his fist. A golden light flashed from his fist, and the force was so great that the entire cave shook.
The beast was pushed back a few steps, but it quickly stabilized itself, shaking its head, with an even more ferocious look in its eyes.
"How is this possible?" Rosie exclaimed, "You're fine with this kind of attack?"
Falcon didn't answer, charging at the beast again. This time, his speed was faster, his movements were more brutal, and each blow carried deadly force. The beast was beaten back repeatedly, but it never fell.
Rosie noticed that Falcon's eyes began to turn red, and the redness gradually spread like bloodshot. His movements also became more and more violent, no longer precise and controlled, but pure violence and destruction.
"Falcon!" Rosie called, but he seemed not to hear.
The beast was forced to the cave entrance and suddenly leaped up, slashing its sharp claws at Falcon's chest. Falcon dodged sideways, but was a little too slow, and its claws scratched his shoulder, causing blood to gush out immediately.
The pain did not make Falcon flinch, but instead aroused a certain strength within him. His eyes turned completely red, his muscles swelled, and he roared like a beast.
Rosie felt a wave of fear. This was not the falcon she knew.
The falcon grabbed the beast's front paw and swung it against the cave wall. The rock shattered with a loud crash, and the beast howled in pain.
But Falcon didn't stop. He rushed at the beast, his fists raining down like raindrops, each blow carrying deadly force. The beast's scales were shattered, and black blood splattered on the cave wall.
"Falcon! That's enough! It can't move anymore!" Rosie rushed forward and grabbed Falcon's arm.
Falcon turned suddenly, his eyes flashing red, his expression ferocious. He pushed Rosie away with such force that she slammed against the cave wall, sending a sharp pain through her back.
Rosie looked at Falcon in horror. His expression had completely changed. There was only the desire to kill in his eyes, not a trace of rationality.
"Falcon, it's me, Rosie!" She tried to bring him back to consciousness. "You are not that kind of person!"
Falcon stopped and turned to Rosie. His breathing was heavy and his body was trembling slightly, as if he was fighting against some power within him.
Rosie mustered up her courage and walked towards him: "Look at me, Falcon. I know you can hear me."
Falcon's eyes flickered red, sometimes brighter and sometimes darker. He raised his hand, as if to attack Rosie, but stopped in mid-air.
"Xixi..." He called out her name hoarsely, his voice painful and struggling.
Rosie reached out and gently touched his cheek, "I'm here, Falcon. Come back."
Falcon's entire body trembled violently, as if a fire were burning within him. He felt his blood boiling, his vision blurring, and everything before him was red. In his hallucination, Rosie's face became a blurry outline, surrounded by countless distorted black shadows.
His arms rose uncontrollably, trying to grab Rosie's throat, but another part of his mind fought back.
"No..." Falcon gritted his teeth, "I can't...hurt...Sissi..."
Rosie watched Falcon struggle in agony, her heart aching. Regardless of the danger, she stepped forward and held Falcon's face in her hands. "Look into my eyes, Falcon. Focus on me."
Falcon's gaze finally focused on Rosie's face. Her clear eyes were like a beacon in the darkness, giving him a glimmer of clarity.
"Sissi..." Falcon's voice gradually returned to normal, and the red light in his eyes gradually faded away. "I'm sorry... I almost..."
He didn't finish his words, as his body went limp and he fell into Rosie's arms. Rosie barely supported his tall body and leaned him against the wall of the cave.
"It's okay, Falcon." Rosie said soothingly, "You have it under control."
Falcon panted heavily, his forehead covered in sweat. "Those stray orcs...the red light in their eyes...now I have it too."
Luo Xi's heart sank: "What is this?"
Falcon shook his head, "I don't know. But it's controlling me...making me want to kill...and hurt you."
Outside the cave, the beast's corpse began to emit a foul odor. Luo Qian took a look and saw that the beast was no longer in shape, with blood and flesh all over it.
"We have to leave here." Luo Xi said, "This body will attract more ferocious beasts."
Falcon tried to stand up, but fell back to the ground: "I... need to rest. That kind of power... consumes too much."
Luo Qian bit her lip, thinking. The wind and snow outside the cave were raging. Leaving would be tantamount to seeking death. But staying here, the smell of blood would attract more danger.
"We have to find a way to cover up the smell of blood." Rosie looked around, "Or... drag the body away."
Falcon shook his head: "No... It's too dangerous." He looked up at Luo Xi, his eyes full of worry, "Xixi, if I lose control again... You must run away. Leave me alone."
Rosie shook her head firmly: "Impossible. I won't abandon you."
Falcon wanted to say something, but suddenly froze. He looked toward the cave entrance warily: "Someone's coming."
Luo Qian's heartbeat quickened, and she subconsciously gripped the stone knife tightly...
