Chapter 222 Chaos (2)
"Beauxbatons," Lamia whispered.
"I'm sorry," said Harry.
"Yes, they must be from Beauxbatons," said Hermione. "You know... Beauxbatons Academy of Magic... I read about it in the European Review of Magical Education."
"Oh... so... that's how it is," said Harry.
"Fred and George can't have gotten very far," said Ron, drawing his wand and trying to light it like Hermione had done, then squinting down the path.
Harry searched his coat pocket for his wand - but it was gone, and all he found was the Omni-glass.
"Oh, no, I can't believe it—I've lost my wand!"
"You are joking!"
Ron and Hermione held their wands high, sending thin beams of light into the air to illuminate more of the area. Harry searched around for his wand but couldn't find it.
"Maybe it fell in the box," said Ron.
"Did it fall out of your pocket when you were running?" Hermione asked anxiously.
"Yeah," said Harry, "probably..."
In the wizarding world, he always carried his wand with him at all times. Now, in this situation, he found that his wand was missing, and he felt very weak and helpless.
Suddenly, there was a rustling sound nearby. The house-elf Winky was struggling to get out of the bushes. Her movements were very strange and seemed to be very strenuous, as if an invisible person was pulling her back.
"There are bad wizards everywhere!" she screamed frantically, leaning forward and trying to run. "People are high up - high up! Shanshan must escape!"
She gasped, screamed, and fought against the force that bound her, and dived into the bushes on the other side of the path.
"What's wrong with her?" Ron looked at Shining's back curiously, "Why can't she run well?"
"I suppose she's gone off without her master's permission," said Harry, thinking of Dobby and how the house-elf had to give him a good beating every time he tried to do something the Malfoys didn't like.
"You know, house-elves are treated very unfairly!" Hermione said angrily, "They are completely slaves! Mr. Crouch forced her to climb to the top of the gymnasium, she was terrified, and then Mr. Crouch cast a spell on her, and now there is no way to escape! Why didn't anyone stand up to stop this?"
"I say, house-elves are happy, aren't they?" said Ron. "Did you hear what Winky said during the match just now... 'House-elves aren't supposed to have fun'... She just loves it, being ordered around..."
"It's people like you who we owe it to, Ron," said Hermione fiercely, "to uphold this rotten, illogical system, just because you're too lazy..."
Another earth-shattering explosion came from the edge of the woods, echoing in the night sky.
"Let's go, shall we?" Ron said, and Harry saw him glance nervously at Hermione. Perhaps there was a point in what Draco said, perhaps Hermione was in more danger than they were. They set off again, Harry still rummaging in his pockets, even though he knew his wand was not with him.
"and many more……"
Hermione suddenly stopped, her cheeks, originally rosy from her excessive excitement, suddenly turned pale. "Where's Lamia?"
Harry also quickly turned around and looked in the direction where Lamia had just stood. There was only a bush blown to and fro by the wind, and there was no trace of Lamia at all.
"She was just here! Where did she go now?" Ron stamped his feet in frustration. "I still have to look for George and the others. Lamia's lost again. Dad will definitely blame me. And Mum, she's always partial..."
"Okay, Ron, we should go find Lamia first. What if she's in danger?" Hermione was very anxious. She raised her wand high, trying to see Lamia in the dark woods.
But they were doomed to fail, for by now, Lamia had reached a tree less than a hundred meters from the marchers.
There were shrill laughter everywhere, mixed with the inexplicable screams of Muggles.
Lamia felt that even she could hardly bear to watch, especially when she saw an innocent old man with gray hair being toyed with by the parade in the sky.
But Lamia did not move. She did not come here to deal with such a group of soldiers. The bigger goal was still behind. Lamia knew very well that these people were just trying to attract attention.
The marchers were walking slowly, but the distance between them was gradually increasing. Just as Lamia was about to jump to another tree, she suddenly saw Hermione who was frantically looking for her.
At this point, Hermione was less than two tree widths away from the group of marchers, and although the leaves partially obscured her view, it was only a matter of time before she was spotted.
Lamia had to temporarily give up the idea of continuing to monitor them, and jumped under the tree, grabbed Hermione's shoulders and took her to another tree in the distance.
Before Hermione could even exclaim, Lamia covered her mouth.
She blinked in confusion, then noticed the marchers in front of her. They had already caught many Muggles and were determined to catch all of them.
Hermione was completely speechless and she grabbed the corner of Lamia's clothes in fear.
On the other side, Harry and Ron did not stop Hermione while looking for Lamia. They knew that the area had been occupied by the marchers, but Hermione stubbornly wanted to go over and find Lamia.
It turned out that Hermione's decision was right, and she did find Lamia, but unfortunately she also put herself in danger.
"Should we go over there and join Hermione?" Ron whispered. He knew how dangerous it was over there, and according to Draco, Hermione was the target of that group of people, which made it even more dangerous. When Ron thought of this, he was so anxious that he couldn't speak.
But before Harry could say anything, there was a rustling sound in the trees next to him.
Bagman emerged.
Even with the feeble light of a single wand, Harry could see that a great change had taken place in Bagman.
He no longer looked cheerful and breezy, his face no longer rosy, his feet no longer springing; he looked pale and tense.
"Who's that over there?" he said, blinking hard at them, trying to make out their faces. "What are you doing here all by yourself?"
They looked at each other in surprise.
"Well - there's a riot over there," said Ron.
Bagman stared at him.
"what?"
"In the camp...someone captured a family of Muggles..."
Bagman cursed loudly.
"Damn it!" he said, looking distraught, and then, without another word, he Disapparated with a puff.
"Mr. Bagman has no idea what's going on, does he?" said Harry, frowning.
"He was a terrific Beater, though," said Ron, as he led the way down the path into a small clearing, intending to go find Hermione.
