Slaying God: I, the insane and witty god
Chapter 28: Exploring the Warehouse and Solving the Crisis
"Ding! The host has triggered a new system task - 'Mysterious Warehouse Treasure Hunt'!"
Wu Hen was immersed in the joy of completing the fruit mission. The sudden system prompt sound almost scared him so much that he threw away the fruit he had just obtained.
"Come on, Big Brother System, can't you give me a break?" Wu Hen couldn't help but complain inwardly, "We just finished the 'Gift from the Moon Goddess' and now here comes the 'Treasure Hunt in the Mysterious Warehouse'. You're releasing tasks faster than I can scroll through short videos!"
The system's mechanical voice echoed emotionlessly in his mind: "Host, please note, this mission objective: Find an ancient book titled 'Ancient Divine Arts' in a mysterious warehouse. Mission Reward: ??? (Depending on completion). Mission Failure Penalty: ??? (Guess?)"
The corner of Wu Hen's mouth twitched. This system really took the suspense to the extreme. The rewards and punishments were all unknown. It was going to drive people with decision-making difficulties to death!
However, no matter how much you complain, you still have to do the task.
Wu Hen took a deep breath and followed the system's instructions to a secluded corner near the banquet venue.
There is a rusty iron gate here, which is out of tune with the magnificent environment around it, as if it leads to another world.
Wu Hen looked at the mysterious door in front of him, and a feeling of uneasiness arose in his heart for no reason, as if some unknown danger was lurking in the darkness.
"System, are you sure that this broken warehouse really contains the book "Ancient Divine Arts" you mentioned? Why do I feel like it wants to push me into a fire pit?" Wu Hen said as he carefully pushed open the iron door.
"Squeak-"
The harsh friction sound seemed particularly abrupt in the silent night. As the iron gate opened, a stale smell hit Wu Hen in the face. Wu Hen couldn't help but fan it with his hands. The smell was even more sour than his stinky socks that hadn't been washed for a month!
The warehouse was pitch black, and Wu Hen groped the wall, trying to find some lighting.
"System, it's pitch black here, and you don't even give me a flashlight or something. Do you want me to experience the blind men and the elephant?" Wu Hen complained.
However, the system ignored his complaint and only coldly reminded him: "Host, please note that there are warning traps in the warehouse. Please proceed with caution."
When Wu Hen heard this, his hair stood on end. This was not a warehouse at all, it was clearly a dangerous place full of dangers!
He held his breath, walked lightly, and was extremely careful with every step, for fear of triggering any mechanism.
However, the more you fear something, the more likely it will come. Just as Wu Hen took a step, there was a sudden "click" sound under his feet, and then a dazzling light shot down from above his head, illuminating the entire warehouse.
"Oh my god! What's going on?!" Wu Hen was startled by this sudden change. Before he could react, he heard the cold voice of the system:
"Host triggers trap: Cage of Light!"
"Cage of light? What the hell?!" Before Wu Hen could figure out the situation, he felt the space around him begin to distort. Beams of light shot from all directions, trapping him inside.
"System, damn it! Didn't you tell me to find ancient books? Why are you asking me to play an escape room game?!" Wu Hen cursed while dodging the attack of the light beam.
The system ignored his complaint and simply said, "Host, please note that the triggering mechanism of the Light Cage is related to light. Please find a way to crack it as soon as possible."
"Is it related to light?" Wu Hen looked around and saw that the walls of the warehouse were engraved with all kinds of strange runes. These runes flashed with strange light under the light.
"Could it be..." Wu Hen seemed to have thought of something, and his eyes fell on a stone pillar in the center of the warehouse. On the stone pillar was inlaid a huge night-shining pearl, emitting a soft light.
"System, tell me, if I give that night-shining pearl..." Before Wu Hen could finish his words, he was ruthlessly interrupted by the system:
"Host, please explore on your own. This system will not provide any hints."
Wu Hen: “…”
Okay, go play by yourself!
Wu Hen gritted his teeth and decided to take a gamble. He took a deep breath and rushed towards the stone pillar...
Wu Hen was a little confused by this sudden "cage falling from the sky". This system really doesn't follow the routine. We were supposed to have a treasure hunt, but why did it include an escape room game?
"Brother System, let's have a discussion. The light is so bright that it's a bit dazzling. Can we try a different way of playing? For example, guess word riddles? Or idiom chain games? I'm pretty good at brain teasers, too!" Wu Hen dodged the attack of the light beam while trying to bargain with the system. Unfortunately, the system was like an emotionless robot and was completely unmoved.
"Host, please note that the triggering mechanism of the Light Cage is related to light. Please find a way to crack it as soon as possible."
"Is it related to light?" Wu Hen's eyes rolled. Although this system is useless, it will occasionally reveal some key information. It seems that he has to make good use of it.
"Light, light..." He muttered while carefully observing the surrounding environment.
Suddenly, an idea flashed in his mind! "Could it be that..."
"Ding! Congratulations to the host for triggering the cheat code - 'A Blessing of Mind'! You have received a hint: To break free from the cage of light, you must learn to walk with the light, or to stay with the shadows!"
"Walk with the light? Accompany with the shadow?" Wu Hen pondered this sentence, his eyes sweeping across every corner of the warehouse. Finally, his sight stopped on the runes on the wall that were flashing with strange light.
"These runes seem to be absorbing light..."
He tentatively moved part of his body to the shadow, and sure enough, the beam of light that had been attacking frantically suddenly quieted down, as if the pause button had been pressed.
"Haha, so that's how it is!" Wu Hen suddenly became alert. As long as he kept moving in the shadows, he could reduce the probability of triggering the trap.
He crouched down, like a nimble monkey, moving back and forth in the shadows, and the various sundries in the warehouse became his natural cover.
However, just as he was secretly feeling proud of himself, a slight sound of footsteps came from deep within the warehouse, accompanied by the sound of iron chains colliding, which was particularly clear in the silent warehouse.
"Oh no, someone is coming!" Wu Hen's heart tightened and he quickly found a corner to hide. Through the gaps between the debris, he saw a short monster holding an iron stick walking towards this side. It seemed that it was responsible for patrol.
"What should I do? I'm doomed if I'm discovered!" In desperation, Wu Hen had an idea and imitated the squeaking sounds of mice in the warehouse. The sound was so lifelike that even he himself admired his acting skills.
Strangely enough, when the little monster heard the mouse's cry, he actually stopped and walked towards the direction of the sound, muttering something as he walked, as if complaining that the mouse had disturbed his work.
Wu Hen watched the little monster walk away and finally breathed a sigh of relief. He couldn't help but praise himself: "How clever of me! Looks like my Oscar owes me a little golden man!"
He continued to move forward cautiously in the shadows, and finally, he came to the deepest part of the warehouse. A huge bookshelf appeared in front of him. The bookshelf was filled with various ancient books, exuding an ancient and mysterious atmosphere.
"This should be the place..." Wu Hen took a deep breath and scanned every book on the bookshelf. Suddenly, his eyes fixed on an ancient book on the top shelf. The book looked very old, and the words on the cover were blurred, but it emitted a strange energy fluctuation.
"Could this be..." Wu Hen reached out to take the book, but just as his fingertips were about to touch the page...
Just when Wu Hen's fingertips were about to touch the ancient book, a black shadow suddenly jumped out from behind the bookshelf and grabbed his wrist!
"Boy, what do you want to do?!"
A rough voice sounded in Wu Hen's ears, with a hint of ruthlessness.
Wu Hen was startled and turned around to see a burly man with a face full of flesh staring at him fiercely. It seemed as if he wanted to eat him alive.
"Fuck, I was scared to death! Who are you? Why are you hiding behind the bookshelf? Are you a peeping Tom?" Wu Hen patted his chest and retorted angrily.
The burly man snorted coldly and squeezed Wu Hen's wrist hard, making it crack.
"Stop talking nonsense! I've noticed you a long time ago. You've been sneaking around, so you definitely have bad intentions! Tell me, are you planning on getting this ancient book too?"
Wu Hen's eyes rolled and he immediately understood. It turned out that his business was being snatched away by his competitors!
He looked at the ferocious look of the burly man, his eyes rolled, and a plan came to his mind.
His expression suddenly changed, and he pretended to be about to cry. He said in a trembling voice, "Brother, don't get me wrong! I, I just came here out of curiosity. I have no interest in this ancient book at all! Really! It's more real than real gold!"
"Oh? Do you think I'm stupid?" The strong man obviously didn't believe his nonsense.
Wu Hen quickly waved his hands, lowered his voice, and said mysteriously: "Brother, let me tell you the truth, this ancient book... it's very evil! It's cursed! Anyone who dares to touch it will be plagued by bad luck and die a miserable death!"
"Curse?" The burly man was obviously stunned for a moment, apparently frightened by Wu Hen's sudden words.
"It's absolutely true, big brother!" Wu Hen struck while the iron was hot and continued to exaggerate, "I saw with my own eyes a guy before, who insisted on opening this book because he didn't believe it, and the result..." He deliberately paused, with a terrified expression on his face.
"What's the result?" The strong man took the bait and asked.
Wu Hen took a deep breath, lowered his voice, and said in an extremely strange tone: "As a result... he immediately bled from all seven orifices, his whole body convulsed, and finally... he turned into a rat! A living rat!"
"What?!" The burly man widened his eyes, his face full of disbelief.
Wu Hen took the opportunity to break free from his restraints, grabbed the ancient book, turned around and ran.
"Stop! Put the book down!" The strong man finally reacted and hurriedly chased after him.
Wu Hen ran away with the ancient book in his arms, turning back and shouting, "Brother, stop chasing me! I don't want this book anymore! Take it if you want it! Good luck!"
He ran to the warehouse door in one breath, and was about to escape when suddenly, a low roar came from the depths of the warehouse. The sound was like that of a giant beast from ancient times, carrying with it a terrifying pressure...
"What the hell?!" Wu Hen couldn't help but look back, only to see a huge black shadow slowly approaching him from deep within the warehouse...
