Long River Eternity
Chapter 5 Herd
The car had stopped at this time, and the air was silent. Everyone, including Teacher Li, was stunned and couldn't react for a moment to what had happened.
As the first person looked in the direction of the light, everyone turned their heads to look in that direction.
A middle-aged man was seen running towards them at an astonishing speed from dozens of meters away. A hundred meters further away, a fierce battle could be vaguely seen taking place. Warriors and beasts clashed in a tangle of battles. Multicolored beams and balls of light intertwined in the air, like a dazzling fireworks display.
The most striking beast of the group was a two-headed python, over twenty meters long, leading a group of smaller pythons. There was also a giant ape, over four meters tall and with four powerful arms, leading a group of apes in battle. And there was also a five-meter-long, pitch-black armored tiger, leading a group of ferocious tigers.
On the human side, there were only a dozen men, women, and children. Though vastly outnumbered, each possessed exceptional skill. Their attacks were fierce and powerful, forcing the beasts back. The ground was littered with the carcasses of the beasts, their blood staining the earth red, revealing the brutality and intensity of the battle.
Seeing that it was reinforcements that arrived, the students in the car burst into thunderous cheers. Many students cried with joy, feeling fortunate that they had finally escaped this disaster.
Seeing this, Teacher Li finally felt relieved. His legs went weak and he collapsed to the ground, gasping for breath.
Some students, including Lin Ding, rushed out of the car immediately and came to Teacher Li to check on his injuries. After a closer look, they found that Teacher Li's injuries were more serious than they had imagined. His entire left arm had been deformed and twisted when he fell from the air. There were several hideous wounds on his chest that were so deep that the bones were visible, and blood was still gushing out.
At this time, Teacher Li's face was pale and he was struggling to maintain the last bit of consciousness to prevent himself from passing out.
"Teacher Li...Teacher Li!" one of the students shouted in a trembling voice.
But there was no answer from Teacher Li.
"What should we do?" a female classmate asked in a crying voice.
The students were at a loss as to what to do when they saw Mr. Li's serious injuries. They didn't dare to step forward to help him, fearing that they would disturb his wounds. Several girls were already crying anxiously.
Just then, the middle-aged man from the distance finally arrived. With a sharp gaze, he quickly scanned Teacher Li's injuries. He then pulled a few pills from his pocket and, without hesitation, stuffed them into Teacher Li's mouth. He then produced a packet of powder and sprinkled it on Teacher Li's wound. The powder immediately stopped the bleeding as it came into contact with the flesh. Then, he expertly took out his needle and thread and quickly sewed up the wound, his movements as smooth as flowing water. Finally, he bandaged the wound and reattached Teacher Li's severed arm.
Throughout the entire process, the man remained silent, his expression focused and calm. The students held their breath, afraid of interrupting his treatment, their eyes filled with awe and gratitude.
After doing all this, the man let out a long breath and said, "Luckily we made it in time. Your teacher Li just lost too much blood and overdrew his physical strength. Although the wound looks terrible, his life is no longer in danger."
Obviously, the man knew Teacher Li.
After hearing the man's words, the students finally breathed a sigh of relief and turned to look at Teacher Li. Teacher Li's face gradually regained its rosy color, and he was trying to sit up. Seeing this, the students hurried forward to support him.
"Thank you very much, Senior Zhang, for saving my life. Your medical skills are truly unparalleled in the world." Teacher Li said weakly as he sat on the ground.
"Come on, you little brat. You're half dead but still trying to flatter me. How come you're the only one here and you were almost beaten to death by a flat-haired beast? Where's Old Tang?" Senior Zhang glanced at Teacher Li and asked.
"By the way, Director Tang and his team are being entangled by a group of double-headed eagles. Please go and rescue them as soon as possible." Lin Ding answered for Teacher Li, his tone filled with anxiety.
"I'm just a doctor. How can I rescue Old Tang? The double-headed eagles here are at most at the Yaoguang realm. Why does he need my rescue? You should help your teacher into the car and rest here. I'm leaving first. After we have dealt with the group of beasts, I'll come to take you into the ruins." Doctor Zhang said in a relaxed tone.
Before he finished speaking, Doctor Zhang turned around and rushed towards the distant battlefield without looking back, leaving the students with puzzled faces.
"Let's get back to the car first. Senior Zhang is right. Director Tang will be fine. He's stronger than you think." Teacher Li said weakly, "Let's get back to the car first, just in case something else jumps out from around us."
After hearing what Teacher Li said, Lin Ding and Wei Wu quickly helped Teacher Li back into the car. The other students also quickly returned to their own cars.
At this moment, the students in the car gathered around, some offering water, others offering food, their faces filled with worry and tension.
"Teacher Li, are you okay?" a girl asked with tears in her eyes and a trembling voice.
"Don't worry, I'm fine." Teacher Li took the bottle of water, forced a smile, and tried to make his voice sound calm. "Everyone return to your seats and stay calm."
"Has the area around Ruins No. 0 always been so dangerous?" a classmate couldn't help but ask, his voice trembling.
"No, although wild animals occasionally appear around here, we've never seen such a large-scale attack. Something big must have happened." Teacher Li was now much more energetic than at the beginning, but his face still showed fatigue.
At this time, a classmate shouted: "It's Director Tang, they are back!"
The students turned around to look behind the car, and sure enough, they saw Director Tang and two other teachers rushing towards them quickly. Their bodies were covered in blood, and they didn't know whether it was theirs or Giant Eagle's.
However, looking at Director Tang's expression, he seemed to be cursing, and the other two teachers lowered their heads, looking as if they had lost all hope in life.
"I always told you to practice more, but you didn't listen. Now look, a bunch of flat-haired beasts have beaten you so badly. I had to fight their leader while helping you at the same time. It took me so long to get rid of them. What if we waste time and something happens to the students? Ah!" As the three people got closer, Director Tang's scolding became clearer and clearer.
Even as they were getting into the car, Director Tang was still scolding the two teachers. When Director Tang saw Teacher Li lying on a chair covered in wounds, he was stunned at first, and then he scolded even more fiercely: "Look at you, if you were stronger and had ended the fight sooner, would Xiao Li be in this state?!"
After hearing this, Teacher Li lowered his head and smiled secretly, which was seen by Director Tang.
"What are you laughing at? You're clearly at a higher realm than that beast, yet you're still laughing after being beaten like this! Listen up, the three of you. If you don't break through to the Yaoguang realm before the end of this year, your salary will be cut in half next year."
Teacher Li looked as upset as if he had eaten a fly. He thought, "What the hell is this? Not only did I almost lose my life, but I also got scolded."
The other two teachers didn't dare to talk back. Although they were teachers at the school, they had also graduated from the school and were students of Director Tang. They were well aware of his authority.
When the students saw this scene, they turned their heads to the window, looking at their noses and their hearts, not daring to breathe.
"Did Doctor Zhang treat your injuries? What happened? Where is he?" Director Tang recognized the bandages on Teacher Li's body as Dr. Zhang's as soon as he got in the car. Therefore, he didn't ask too much about Teacher Li's injuries.
"There is a group of beasts ahead. The seniors from the ruins are fighting together, and Senior Zhang went to help." Teacher Li then recounted what happened to Director Tang.
"Let's go and see if we can help." After listening to Teacher Li's narration, Director Tang said to the other two teachers as he prepared to get out of the car.
"No need, it's been resolved. Most of the animals in the herd were killed or injured, and the rest ran away." At this time, Doctor Zhang's voice came from outside the car.
