Spy Wars: Strong Agents Who Are Ruthless and Talk Little
Chapter 556 Time Bomb
Just as he approached the core of the building, a faint sound suddenly shattered the surrounding silence. Su Ming paused, his eyes narrowed, and he quickly turned back. The figures hidden in the shadows, as if they had already sensed his presence, approached silently.
"You're here." A low voice came from the darkness, and there seemed to be a hint of threat in the tone that could not be ignored.
The air was thick with a pungent, musty smell. The dim light cast long shadows, and the ground was covered with dust and ash. Su Ming gripped his weapon tightly, calmly analyzing the situation. His heartbeat wasn't racing, but surprisingly steady. It was the kind of tranquility he had felt countless times in danger, like a moment hidden deep beneath the sea, allowing him to find a chance for survival in the smallest details.
"You're here." The voice came again, still low and threatening, like a net slowly emerging from the shadows, swallowing him silently.
Su Ming didn't move, remaining where he was. His eyes darted through the darkness, rapidly searching for every possible hiding place. He wasn't panicked by his enemy's words. Instead, a powerful sense of clarity suddenly surged within him. This feeling felt like an innate alertness, like his only weapon against the world.
"Do you think you have all the answers?" The voice sounded again, but this time with a hint of impatience, as if feeling that Su Ming did not understand the current situation clearly enough.
Su Ming finally spoke, his voice not at all nervous, but rather with a hint of sarcasm, "Do you think I will be trapped so easily?" The corners of his mouth rose slightly, his eyes still fixed on the surrounding environment, as if in this dim space, he was the one who dominated everything.
The man seemed stunned for a moment, then sneered, "It seems you are really a difficult guy. Unfortunately, you have no way to escape today."
Su Ming didn't reply. A series of rapid calculations flashed through his mind. He knew that everything before him was just a carefully crafted scheme by Zheng Yaoxian. The enemy had already cornered him. This abandoned building might not even have an exit, simply to lure him in, setting a larger trap. All he had to do was find a way out of this fog.
Suddenly, his phone vibrated. It was an unfamiliar number, and a short message flashed on the screen: "Master, remember to buy some flour."
Su Ming froze for a moment, his fingertips trembling slightly. Those words, so ordinary that they were almost forgettable, suddenly flashed like a ray of light, illuminating a corner of his heart that had been hidden for a long time.
"Flour?" he muttered, chuckling softly. This news wasn't the crucial intelligence he'd hoped for, nor did it offer a concrete plan for his escape. Yet, at that moment, he felt a long-lost sense of familiarity, a connection to everyday life, the kind of thing one can't help but explore. No matter how dangerous, from time to time, the subtle touches of life would stir subtle ripples in one's heart.
He put his phone back in his pocket and glanced around again. The enemy didn't move immediately, perhaps confused by his silence, or perhaps feeling that he was cornered.
"If you really wanted to kill me, you would have done it long ago." Su Ming's voice rang out again, deep and confident. "However, I'm afraid you haven't figured out the true situation yet."
The tension in the air gradually intensified. Su Ming bent slightly, inching backwards to avoid making any noise. His fingers were already tightly gripping the dagger at his waist, and every cell in his body was tense in alert, ready to respond to any sudden change. Every second of silence seemed to intensify his inner tension, but he felt no fear. Instead, his focus deepened, as if he had entered a nearly transcendent state.
"Do you think you can escape?" a man's voice scoffed from behind. The man was clearly getting impatient, perhaps sensing Su Ming's intentions and preparing to take more direct action.
"Escape?" Su Ming chuckled, a sarcastic smile on his lips, "I never run away."
He spun abruptly, slashing with his dagger. Almost instantly, the air was filled with a sharp aura. The enemy seemed unprepared for his decisive reaction, losing their balance instantly. He took the opportunity to leap to the side, taking cover in the shadows, and instantly vanished from the scene.
The enemy froze for a moment, then quickly turned around, seeing nothing. Meanwhile, Su Ming was already lurking nearby, holding his breath, awaiting his next opportunity to strike. That familiar sense of clarity rose again, guiding him as he groped his way through the darkness.
After a few seconds, the noise gradually subsided, as if the enemy was still searching for him. Su Ming did not rush into action, but remained calm and waited quietly for his opportunity.
Suddenly, the content of the message echoed in his mind again: "Remember to buy some flour."
"Flour..." He repeated in a low voice, the corners of his mouth curling up slightly, as if he had found some kind of inspiration from these words. Why did flour, something so ordinary that it couldn't be more ordinary, at this moment, feel like a time bomb, detonating something in his heart?
Su Ming gradually made a decision. He knew he had to act more decisively. If he continued to rely on anyone's help or external forces at this point, it would mean his own failure. His goal was to penetrate the enemy's heart and uncover the true secret. Even in the face of countless dangers, he would never turn back.
Su Ming's gaze was sharp as a knife, calmly scanning his surroundings. In the darkness, his figure was like a ghost, swiftly fading into the shadows. The air grew heavier, each breath a tense rhythm. The enemy's footsteps drew closer, their strides heavy and menacing. Su Ming gently gripped his weapon, his heartbeat remaining surprisingly steady—he was no longer the young man who had just started out. Every dangerous situation, every time he was forced into a desperate situation, served as a test of his composure and agility, no longer easily wavering.
Yet, despite the seemingly calm outside, a corner of Su Ming's heart suddenly felt a sense of turmoil. It was something he had always protected—a document. His fingers unconsciously touched the inner pocket of his chest, where he kept the most important confidential document for this mission. It was his only clue, his final connection to the entire plan. If this document were lost, or discovered by the enemy, it would not only be a personal failure for him, but could also affect the entire situation.
