Crossing the famine to find the white moonlight
Chapter 482: The warmth of working together
In the small village, early morning sunlight filtered through the mist, casting a shadow over the earth. The air felt as fresh as freshly washed windowpanes. In the fields, lush green crops swayed gracefully, as if offering a soulful dance to nature. Everything about the village was serene and natural, as if time had slowed down.
Yet, amidst this tranquil and beautiful scene, two figures stand out: Ye Wan and Xie Linchuan. Unlike ordinary leaders who simply stand by and direct work, they often personally participate in the work in the fields. Planting, fertilizing, weeding, harvesting—they tirelessly participate in every task, and all of this has gradually become a part of the daily life of the village.
Today, the weather was exceptionally sunny, and Ye Wan and Xie Linchuan set out for the farm early in the morning. Walking along the dirt path, Ye Wan pulled a simple wooden cart loaded with fertilizer. As she walked, she looked down at her shoes, noticing they were stained with mud. She couldn't help but smile, "Now that's what a farmer looks like."
Xie Linchuan stood beside her, raised his hands, and said with confidence: "You are not a real farmer. A real farmer would not go to the fields wearing such exquisite clothes."
Ye Wan's heart moved slightly. She looked down at her clothes covered with dirt, and couldn't help but smile. Who said that a woman can't be both beautiful and capable? She looked back at Xie Linchuan with a mischievous look on her face: "Just think of me as a beautiful and capable farmer."
A gentle smile flashed in Xie Linchuan's eyes: "Then am I not particularly lucky?"
Hearing what he said, Ye Wan felt her face suddenly heat up. She turned her head away and stopped talking. But she secretly felt sweet in her heart. It turns out that sometimes there is no need for words, the tacit understanding between the eyes is enough to say everything.
The two walked side by side into the farmland, where the villagers were already busy. Ye Wan glanced at them and smiled, "The weather is really good today, it looks like we'll have a good harvest."
An elderly farmer smiled and responded, "Yes, Sister Ye, the crops in this field are growing really well, thanks to everyone's hard work. Let's harvest them together today. It's a good thing Brother Xie is here to help."
Xie Linchuan nodded slightly and rubbed the sweat on his face: "No problem, it's more energetic to work together."
With this brief exchange, everyone began to bustle. Ye Wan, rather than standing aside and directing the work, simply because she was the leader, naturally stepped aside, picked up her hoe, and began weeding with the villagers. Her movements were deft and expert, the hoe turning the soil repeatedly, sweat gradually soaking her forehead. Yet, her face showed no trace of fatigue, only concentration and satisfaction.
Xie Linchuan, standing nearby, led several young men to tinker with their tools and help the woodworkers complete the furniture. Unlike the tranquility of the farmland, the workshop was filled with the thumping sound of hammers striking wood. The rough timber slowly became smooth in their hands, gradually becoming tables, chairs, and bed frames. Xie Linchuan stood among them, a saw in hand, intently adjusting the angle of the planks. He would occasionally look up to observe the others' progress, his expression remaining calm, as if he stood out from the surrounding clamor.
Suddenly, he felt a warm gaze cast upon him. He looked up involuntarily and saw Ye Wan standing at the door, her eyes fixed on him. She had a faint smile on her face, as if nothing in the world could make her happier than watching him busy.
This sudden look made Xie Linchuan's heart soften. He raised the corner of his mouth and waved to Ye Wan: "Come and help, the carpentry workshop does not need your labor."
Without hesitation, Ye Wan put down her tools and walked towards the workshop. She came to Xie Linchuan's side and picked up a piece of wood. "Since you are so capable, I have to help you." She said as she put the wood in order.
Xie Linchuan glanced at her face from the corner of his eye and couldn't help but smile: "I'm not showing off. You should do the carpentry work. It would be bad if you cause trouble for me."
"I don't believe it. I'm not afraid of your little tricks." Ye Wan was not willing to be outdone. She raised her head and looked at him with a playful glint in her eyes. "But you did a really good job. I didn't expect you to do such a thing."
"What? Do you think I'm just a guy who knows how to fight and kill?" Xie Linchuan asked back with a hint of helpless smile in his tone.
"No, I just think that you are so smart, you should do something more challenging." Ye Wan raised her eyebrows with a relaxed smile on her lips.
"Since you are so smart, why don't you become a king?" Xie Linchuan raised his head, his eyes were deep, with a hint of joking and a bit of seriousness.
Ye Wan was stunned for a moment, then laughed: "King? Forget it, I don't want to be the one who always has to think about national affairs. I still prefer to live this simple and happy life with everyone."
Her words revealed a calm yet resolute emotion. Looking at her eyes, Xie Linchuan's heart couldn't help but move slightly. He didn't say anything more, but turned around and continued with his work.
At this point, the rest of the village joined in the work. Everyone divided the work and worked together. Although the workload was heavy, everyone wore a smile. Every plank, every hoe, every seed was a testament to their hard work and unity. Through these small tasks, everyone's hearts were connected, and mutual trust and respect gradually grew.
Ye Wan and Xie Linchuan finished their work and gazed out at the fields in the distance, seeing the farmers working alongside them. Everything here filled her with immense satisfaction. From the cultivated soil to the busy crowds, they all bore witness to their collective efforts. Suddenly, she felt the weight of her responsibility grow even stronger.
"It's so nice to work together like this." She whispered to Xie Linchuan.
Xie Linchuan nodded gently, his eyes soft: "Yes, today's work really makes people feel fulfilled."
At this moment, time seemed to stand still. Ye Wan and Xie Linchuan stood side by side, gazing at the fields and the home they had built. Their hearts were no longer filled with responsibility and pressure, but with a deep sense of happiness and satisfaction.
The work on the farm continues, and the people in the workshop never stop, but for Ye Wan and Xie Linchuan, such ordinary and happy days are the most precious treasures in their hearts.
