Suddenly, her foot slipped, and her body lurched forward, about to fall to the ground.

"Watch out!" Mo Ziyu reacted quickly, grabbing her wrist and pulling her back steadily.

Tang Xueyi, still shaken, patted her chest, her face pale: "That was close!"

Mo Ziyu looked down and saw that she had stepped on a patch of moss. He shook his head helplessly, turned around, squatted down, and said, "Come on, I'll carry you so you won't fall again."

Tang Xueyi was stunned for a moment, her cheeks instantly turning red: "No need, I can walk by myself!"

"Stop talking nonsense," Mo Ziyu interrupted her, his tone leaving no room for argument, "Your feet are all blistered, do you really want to walk with your injured feet? Hurry up and get on."

Tang Xueyi hesitated for a moment, then blushed and carefully climbed onto his back. Mo Ziyu's back wasn't broad, but it was sturdy and carried the refreshing aura unique to young men.

He stood up and walked forward with steady steps, teasing her as he said, "Xue'er, you're so light, like a little rabbit."

Tang Xueyi's face turned even redder. She buried her face in his back and muttered softly, "You're the little bunny."

The two chatted and laughed along the way, which eased some of their fatigue from the journey. As they walked, Mo Ziyu suddenly stopped, his brows furrowing tightly.

Tang Xueyi noticed his unusual behavior and looked up to ask, "What's wrong?"

Mo Ziyu didn't speak, but simply pointed to the ground not far ahead. Tang Xueyi looked in the direction he was pointing and immediately gasped.

There were several messy footprints scattered on the ground, along with some broken branches. Judging from the size of the footprints, they were clearly not theirs.

What's even more unsettling is that there's a piece of black cloth hanging on a large tree not far away, and it looks exactly like the clothes those two bad guys wore yesterday!

"It's them!" Tang Xueyi's voice trembled slightly as she gripped Mo Ziyu's clothes tightly.

Mo Ziyu's face also darkened. He looked around warily and whispered, "Don't make a sound. They should be nearby. Let's hide and see what happens."

As he spoke, he carefully carried Tang Xueyi on his back and hid behind a thick tree, holding his breath and listening carefully to the sounds around him.

Not long after, a series of hurried footsteps approached, accompanied by the voices of several people talking.

"Boss, we've been searching all night. Could those two little brats have flown away?" a gruff voice rang out.

"Bullshit!" another fierce voice cursed. "That kid looks very clever; he's probably hiding in some nook or cranny. Hurry up and find him! If we can't find him, how are we going to explain this to the buyer?"

"Yes Yes Yes……"

The footsteps grew closer and closer, and they were about to reach the big tree.

Tang Xueyi's heart was in her throat. She closed her eyes tightly and didn't dare to breathe loudly.

Mo Ziyu's eyes sharpened, and he gripped the branch tightly, his fingers turning slightly white from the force. He knew that this time, he probably couldn't escape it.

In the shadow behind the tree, Tang Xueyi trembled like a leaf in the autumn wind, her face buried in Mo Ziyu's back, not daring to breathe, only able to hear the pounding of her own heart, as if it were about to shatter her chest.

Mo Ziyu, however, was much calmer than her. His back was ramrod straight, like an arrow ready to be released. His ears were pressed tightly against the sound of the wind, trying to discern the distance of the footsteps.

He could tell that there were about five or six bad guys in the group. Their steps were unsteady, so they were probably not well-trained or ruthless characters, but just some bullies from the mountains who preyed on the weak.

The footsteps grew closer, and the rough conversation became clearly audible.

"Boss, this forest is so big, those two little kids are probably already eaten by wolves. Why are we just wandering around here aimlessly?" a shrill voice complained, sounding young and full of impatience.

The man called the boss spat, his voice rough and hoarse like a broken gong: "Bullshit! That girl looks like a rich girl from a wealthy family, she definitely has something valuable on her. If we brothers catch her, we can have a good time for a while! If you dare to say another word, I'll skin you alive!"

The person with the shrill voice immediately fell silent, only daring to mutter softly, "But we've searched for so long and haven't even seen a hair!"

Mo Ziyu's heart sank. It turned out that this group of bandits was after Xue'er.

He instinctively tightened his arms, protecting the person on his back even more closely. His fingertips were icy cold, but his mind was racing. A direct confrontation was definitely out of the question; the other side outnumbered them, and he, a mere child carrying Xue'er, would gain no advantage. He had to outsmart them.

His gaze swept quickly across the surroundings, landing on a patch of waist-high reeds not far away. The grass there grew extremely dense; if he hid inside without making a sound, he might be able to escape detection. But the bandits were too close at the moment; any sudden movement would surely lead to his discovery.

Just then, a gust of wind blew through the treetops, swirling up a few withered leaves that fell to the ground with a soft rustling sound.

The bandit at the front suddenly stopped, looking warily toward the large tree, his triangular eyes narrowing into slits: "What was that sound?"

Tang Xueyi's body trembled even more violently, and she almost cried out. Mo Ziyu quickly raised his hand to cover her mouth, his palm pressed against her soft lips, and gestured for her to be quiet with his eyes.

The bandits slowly surrounded him, their machetes gleaming coldly in the sunlight, causing Mo Ziyu's pupils to contract slightly.

"Boss, there doesn't seem to be any movement. Maybe it's just the wind?" A short, fat bandit peeked around and, finding nothing unusual, breathed a sigh of relief.

The leader, however, was still somewhat suspicious and was about to walk towards the tree: "I'm going to take a look, see if those two brats are hiding here!"

At the critical moment, Mo Ziyu suddenly had an idea. He noticed that the strap of the cloth bag was sticking out and that there were a few marbles he usually used for hunting birds inside. He immediately had a plan.

He carefully released his hand from Tang Xueyi's and whispered in her ear, "When I tell you to run, run towards the bushes and don't look back."

Tang Xueyi's body stiffened, but she nodded quickly, her eyes full of trust.

Mo Ziyu took a deep breath and, before the bandits could get close, suddenly reached into his bag, pulled out a marble, aimed at the ankle of the bandit with the shrill voice at the front, and flicked it out with all his might.

"Ouch!"

The marble hit the man's ankle squarely, causing him to scream in pain and jump up while clutching his foot.

"What are you howling about!" The boss was startled and turned around to yell at him, only to see the person with the shrill voice wincing in pain: "Boss, something hit me! It hurts like hell!"
