Rebirth of the Scumbag and the Retribution of the White Lotus
Chapter 10 Breaking the Calm
Since Li Ting started working at the food factory, she's gradually adapted to the busy pace of life. Leaving home early and returning late every day, she not only earns some pocket money but also learns a lot from interacting with her coworkers. She's realized she's no longer the bossy girl she once was. Now, she has goals, plans, and a strong heart.
However, the family was still rife with mixed emotions, especially with Zhao Shufang. Li Ting wasn't eager to clash with her, but every conversation was filled with unease and hostility. Furthermore, Li Ting knew Zhao Shufang was waiting for an opportunity, and she wouldn't let go of this "fat piece of meat" easily.
That evening, Li Ting had just returned home from the food factory when she saw Zhao Shufang sitting in the living room, seemingly waiting for something. She deliberately raised her voice and said in a somewhat provocative tone, "Sister, do you feel like you've changed?"
Li Ting stopped, looked at her, and frowned slightly: "What do you mean?"
Zhao Shufang sneered, "I heard you've been working hard outside lately, but what kind of money are you making? I'm afraid those odd jobs aren't worth your time, are they?"
Li Ting calmly said, "Although the money I earn isn't much, it's all earned through hard work. At least it's better than some people who just stay at home."
Zhao Shufang's face suddenly turned pale, and she couldn't help but fight back: "Do you think doing odd jobs can prove anything? Sister, let me tell you, odd jobs can never compare to me. You are just doing odd jobs now, it's not worth my time to argue with you."
Li Ting smiled slightly, her tone calm, "Everyone's path is different. You may think this is just a part-time job, but for me, this is just the beginning."
Zhao Shufang stood up angrily: "Who do you think you are? How dare you speak to me so loudly!"
Li Ting replied calmly, "I'm not surprised you're angry. After all, you're always used to controlling others, especially me."
Zhao Shufang stormed back to her room, slamming the door shut. Li Ting stood quietly for a moment, watching her leave, but secretly sneered. She knew that Zhao Shufang might appear disdainful on the surface, but deep down she must be jealous of her progress.
Li Ting wasn't discouraged by this, but instead became more determined. She realized that odd jobs alone weren't enough to change her and her family's current situation. To secure greater resources, she decided to explore some outside business opportunities.
So, at the town market, she met a small vendor selling handwoven items, Aunt Liu. A kind, middle-aged woman with a gentle personality, her handwoven items were well-loved by her customers. After chatting with her for a while, Li Ting offered to learn how to weave.
Seeing her genuine interest, Aunt Liu agreed to teach her some basic knitting techniques. "These tasks may seem simple, but they actually require careful attention to detail," Aunt Liu told Li Ting earnestly.
Li Ting nodded seriously: "I am not afraid of trouble and I am willing to learn."
During this time, Li Ting took time out every day to visit Aunt Liu's stall, where she gradually mastered some knitting techniques and began to try making simple small items herself. She gradually realized that although the hand-knitting business was quite competitive, if she could create unique designs, she could still attract many customers.
After a few weeks of practice, Li Ting was already skilled at knitting small items. She decided to start selling these items, testing the waters at the market. To avoid attracting attention, she told her stepmother and Zhao Shufang that she was there to help sell some small items. Initially, her stepmother didn't pay much attention, assuming Li Ting had her own things to do, so she didn't ask any further questions.
One day, Li Ting took her homemade trinkets to the market to sell. Her stall location was not very good, but she carefully arranged the stall, constantly communicated with customers, and patiently introduced her products. Sure enough, her efforts were not in vain, and slowly, some customers began to gather in front of her stall.
"This bracelet is so beautiful. Did you make it yourself?" a customer asked.
Li Ting smiled and nodded: "Yes, I made it. Each bracelet is unique. If you like it, you can take it away."
The customer looked around and finally chose a small and exquisite bracelet, paid for it and left with satisfaction. Li Ting was delighted. This was the first time she had earned money through her own efforts. Although it was not much, it was enough to make her proud.
When she returned home with her earnings, her stepmother was stunned when she saw the money in her hand. She asked, "How did you make money so quickly? Did you do some other job?"
Li Ting nodded and silently planned in her mind: "Sell some small handicrafts to earn some pocket money and kill time at the same time."
Although her stepmother didn't say much on the surface, a hint of dissatisfaction flashed in her eyes. Although she said she didn't mind, she still felt a little disdain for Li Ting. After all, Zhao Shufang was still the "baby" of the family, and Li Ting could only earn some pocket money, so her stepmother didn't think she had achieved much.
One day, Zhao Shufang suddenly approached Li Ting and said with a hint of provocation, "Sister, you're really capable now, actually starting this kind of small business. Do you think this will change the situation at home?"
Li Ting frowned and looked up at her: "What do you mean?"
Zhao Shufang raised her lips and said, "I'm just reminding you that doing this kind of small business is just a waste of time. If you really have the ability, why don't you do something bigger?"
Li Ting looked at her, thinking to herself, this woman really never gives up. She sneered, "Everyone has their own path. You don't need to worry about me. You don't have the final say on what can be done."
Zhao Shufang's face flushed with anger, but she was speechless. Although she denied it, she was already feeling uneasy. She was afraid that Li Ting's efforts would shatter her sense of superiority, that Li Ting could truly change her fate through her own efforts.
Li Ting responded with a cold look. Looking at Zhao Shufang's exasperated look, she had already made a plan in her mind: Zhao Shufang was destined to become her biggest obstacle, but she would never let such a person stop her.
