The Great Doctor Girl

Chapter 24: Wedding Date Approaches, Old Love Reappears

The evening breeze rustled gently like soft silk. Huang Junze had just finished answering that mysterious phone call, and his expression suddenly became unfathomable, as if shrouded in a thick fog. Although his hand was still tightly held mine, in that fleeting moment, I keenly sensed a chill distinct from the past.

"What happened to him? Did something big happen?" I muttered to myself.

He tried to hide it with a slight smile on his lips, however, his eyes no longer had the same fiery intensity as before, and became wandering, as if his mind had drifted to a distant unknown realm.

Alarm bells rang in my heart, and a sense of unease quietly spread in the air like a ghost.

"Junze, are you okay?" I asked cautiously, with an unconcealable tremor in my voice. I had a vague sense of foreboding in my heart, as if an invisible hand in the darkness was quietly reaching out to our happiness.

"Well, nothing much, just some urgent things at the company." His answer was perfunctory, his tone as flat as a lake drained of life in autumn. He used to gaze at me intently with those gentle, watery eyes, patiently explaining every insignificant detail. But today, his gaze was constantly shifting, as if he were deliberately avoiding something. That evasive look intensified my unease.

"Is it really just a company matter? I feel like it's not that simple." I started to wonder in my heart, and my brows unconsciously frowned.

After our wedding photos, Huang Junze and I sat side by side in the car. The setting sun shone through the window like a golden veil, gently illuminating his chiseled features. But at that moment, an indelible shadow seemed to linger between his brows, a shadow as heavy as a dark cloud bearing down on a city. A pang of bitterness washed over me. The sweet atmosphere in the car suddenly became dull and oppressive, as if the very air had frozen.

"What is he thinking? Why did he suddenly become like this? Did I do something wrong?" I couldn't help but ask myself in my heart, and my hands involuntarily twisted together.

Back at the villa, he seemed even more taciturn than usual. He spoke only a few words before hurriedly returning to his study. I stood alone in the empty living room, surrounded by familiar surroundings, yet I had never felt so lonely and helpless.

The night deepened, thick as insoluble ink. The air still held the faint sweetness of wedding photoshoots, yet now it seemed so ironic. Huang Junze sat in a chair in his study, the dim light of the desk lamp slanting across his slightly furrowed brow, illuminating the deep worry in his eyes.

"Su Jingyan, why do you show up at this time?" He muttered silently in his heart, his hands clenched into fists.

He stared blankly at his phone screen, his fingertips unconsciously swiping across the message. In the dialog box on the screen, the name Su Jingyan pierced his eyes like a sharp sword. The name he had thought was forever sealed in a distant memory, the woman who had left a deep mark of pain in his heart, had returned without any warning.

"Junze, long time no see. Let's meet."

These ten simple words seemed to carry all the sweetness and pain, laughter and tears of the past, and suddenly opened the wound in his heart that had finally scabbed over.

Su Jingyan had once been the pure, flawless white moonlight in his heart. The beauty of that first love had drawn him to her like a moth to a flame, unable to extricate himself. However, her sudden and decisive departure, her heartless betrayal without explanation, plunged his fiery heart into an icy abyss, sealing his emotional world from him. Back then, he believed he would never again be moved by another woman.

"Why can't I forget her? She was so heartless at the beginning, why do I still fall in love with her?" Huang Junze asked himself, his heart full of entanglement and pain.

Until I showed up.

Huang Junze took a deep breath, as if to suppress the surging emotions within him. He slowly raised his eyes and looked out the window. The night sky outside was deep and tranquil, dotted with twinkling stars. It seemed calm, but within him, a raging storm was brewing. His thoughts drifted back to the moments we had spent together. That gentle yet steadfast me had not only healed his physical ailments, but like a ray of warm sunshine, gradually healing the unspoken wounds deep within him.

"I can't let Luo Shu down. She's been so good to me, but Su Jingyan..." Huang Junze was extremely conflicted, with beads of sweat oozing out of his forehead.

But why did Su Jingyan's appearance still make his heart so shaken? He asked himself again and again in his heart, but he could not find the answer.

The next morning, when I awoke from a light sleep, Huang Junze was gone. His familiar, faint fragrance lingered in the air, but his recent indifference surged into my heart like an icy tide, leaving me feeling an immense chill.

"Did he go to find Su Jingyan? What should I do? Is our relationship going to end like this?" I was filled with anxiety and confusion, and tears welled up in my eyes.

Over the past few days, Huang Junze's attitude has grown increasingly cold, like a chilly winter wind, slowly eroding my heart. This change has come so quietly, yet so undeniably. He no longer looks at me with the tender, affectionate gaze he once had, nor does he care for my every move with such concern and concern.

I still remember the day we took our wedding photos. After he received that mysterious phone call, everything began to change. At that moment, with my keen intuition as a doctor and my understanding as someone closest to him, I clearly captured the subtle changes deep within him.

"I can't just sit there and wait for death, but what can I do? Should I confront him or continue to wait?" I was struggling with myself, feeling confused.

As a doctor versed in medicine and perceptive of human nature, I understand my patients' body language and can even read the emotions hidden in their eyes. Furthermore, I'm a Yi practitioner who can sense the heavens and the earth. Ever since that phone call, a subtle drift has begun to appear in Huang Junze's eyes. His emotions no longer belong entirely to me, as if a part of them has been forcibly ripped away by some invisible force.

I sighed softly, walked to the window, and slowly drew aside the curtains. The bright, warm morning sunlight streamed through the cracks, generously shimmering on my face, yet it couldn't illuminate the growing gloom and unease within me. I knew clearly that something was quietly changing between us, but I wouldn't be foolish enough to question him. With the wedding approaching, at this crucial moment, the most important thing wasn't to confront him too hastily, but to give him the time and space he needed to sort through his inner turmoil.

"I have to believe in him and our feelings. No matter what happens, I have to face it bravely." I secretly encouraged myself, but my heart still couldn't help trembling.

If he is still unable to completely get out of the shadow of the past, what I need to do is not to ask him too much, but to wait patiently for him to make the final choice.
