Legend of Mir 2: Seeking the Truth in Marfa

Chapter 19: Corpse King Palace

Bayin and Brook did not fight the Corpse King, but directly attacked the three Overlords hiding in the corner. Xiaobai stood beside Brook and waited for orders.

The three Overlords were gloomy. Over an hour earlier, they hadn't stopped Bayin and rushed back to the Corpse King's Palace, only to find the entrance already open. Someone had gotten in before them. Upon descending, they saw a group, led by Bai Yujing, another warrior, no less powerful than the Overlords. A fierce battle ensued.

Bai Yujing's team, though smaller, had already established themselves in a corner having entered first. While Overlord's side outnumbered them, a larger force had its drawbacks. Their initial frantic movement immediately attracted the attention of the Corpse King. Forced to contend with both the Corpse King and Bai Yujing's attacks, Overlord's men suffered heavy losses. Finally, under Overlord's command, they managed to stabilize their position, and with the Taoist's collective invisibility and healing abilities, they engaged Bai Yujing's group.

Suddenly, those with low health, those who failed to cloak in time and were attacked by the Corpse King, and those who were blocked from leaving, were met with a whizzing flurry of random items flying around the Corpse King's palace, creating even greater chaos. Eventually, everyone on both sides who had random items had used them up, and those without random items and solar water who couldn't hold on were also cleared out. The two sides fought for over 10 minutes, but in the end, Bai Yujing and his group suffered the disadvantage of being outnumbered. They ran out of potions and random items, unable to hold on any longer, and all returned to the city.

The Overlord's men were not much better off, half of them were knocked away by Bai Yujing and the others, and the other half were knocked away by the Corpse King. In the end, only the three of them were left.

The three Overlords ultimately emerged victorious, reaping the rewards of victory. They defeated a wave of over 30 zombies in the Zombie Hall, and even found some drops. They'd originally thought their team would return after an hour, but after waiting for a long time, they saw no sign of their teammate. Instead, they encountered Brook and Bayin. A new wave of zombies had just spawned, and the three Overlords had only defeated four or five when Brook and Bayin arrived.

Brook and the other two found an angle and prioritized attacking the outermost Yihongyuan. Of course, the Overlord was also on the periphery, as Yihongyuan was a Taoist priest with ranged attacks, so of course they had to attack him first. The night bed in the far corner was shaking, wanting to help, but the range of the spell was limited. He could see but couldn't hit, just one step away.

Yihongyuan, being attacked by two men, couldn't handle it. His counterattacks were weak, his Soul Fire Talisman skill was only at level 2, and his equipment wasn't as good as Brook's. Brook and Bayin both had Ghost Shield, which increased their magic resistance. As a result, the Fire Talisman only dealt a little over 10 HP to Bayin, and Brook's Healing spell was enough to counter several of his Fire Talismans.

Yihongyuan changed his strategy, poisoning both Bayin and the other two before abandoning the attack and focusing on healing himself. There was no other way; he had been poisoned by Brook, and Bayin's lightning spell was too powerful, taking away nearly 50 HP each time. He couldn't sustain the damage with just the Golden Wound Medicine anymore, and needed to constantly drink Sun Water. In the previous wave of zombies, the most common item dropped was potions, and everyone had collected over 10 Sun Waters. So Yihongyuan could still hold out for a while. But passively taking a beating wasn't the solution, and Yihongyuan looked at Bawang for help, forcing himself on her.

Overlord snorted coldly, then decisively flew out of the Corpse King's encirclement and rushed towards Bayin. Bed Rocker in the corner also took a step forward, reaching where Overlord had stood. He could finally attack Bayin and the other two.

"Take a step back and attack Overlord." Bayin was under concentrated fire and the two immediately took a step back. Yihongyuan and Chuangyao lost their target because they were not within the range of the spell.

Before the Overlord could get close to him, Brook had already released red and green poisons on him, and Bayin's lightning technique also fell on him.

With a crackling sound, Overlord's body trembled, and he lost 54 HP. This woman's attacks were even more powerful than before, and Overlord secretly hated her. He also had several top-grade equipment with an attack of 41. If he could get close enough to hit the fragile mage, he would surely be able to cut Bayin down in a few blows. Since Overlord lost his invisibility after moving, he was hit by the chain of a corpse king on the road, losing 22 HP. It didn't matter; at level 22, he had a total of 258 HP. Drink the Golden Healing Potion and charge!

Finally rushing to Bayin's side, Overlord raised Shura and was about to strike when Bayin unleashed a Fire Ring of Resistance. This skill was released at an extremely fast speed, and before Overlord's attack could land, Bayin's Fire Ring of Resistance had already bounced him four steps away, landing next to a corpse king. Bayin's Fire Ring of Resistance was only level 4; if it were level 2, it would probably have bounced him into the wall. Overlord was furious, as this was bullying him for not having a ranged skill.

The fire talisman, lightning, and the corpse king's chains fell on the Overlord's head at the same time, and in an instant, more than 100 points of blood were lost.

Overlord underestimated the combined power of Bayin and Brook. Even though he was the Warrior with the highest HP among the three professions, he couldn't withstand such an attack. He even drank the sun water and shouted to the corner: "Everyone, come out and fight!"

That night, Bed is Shaking and Yihongyuan Exclusive exchanged glances. They only had one random chance left. Although they were now all invisible, if Random flew into a bad position, such as among a group of zombies, there would be no chance to use Random again. But at this point, there was no other choice but to fly out and fight.

With two whoosh sounds, he occupied the corner of Yihong Courtyard at the bottom, and that night the bed was shaking but happened to fall next to Brooke and Bayin.

Brook saw them all flying out and knew that the other side was going to fight to the death. He immediately reminded Bayin: "Be careful. Kill the opponent's mage with the highest attack first." He immediately poisoned the bed swing and ordered Xiaobai, who had been standing nearby for a long time, to attack the bed swing.

A level 22 mage with 86 HP, less than 10 points of magic resistance and defense. With the 20% damage bonus from Poison, Bayin's three-layer Lightning spell took away half of Chuangyao's HP. Then, Brook's Xiaobai slashed him, leaving him with only 10 HP. Terrified, Chuangyao forgot to even run, and guzzled Sun Water. But even with the instantaneous Sun Water, only two bottles could be used per second. After all this, while his HP wasn't fully replenished, he was still alive.

But this was only a temporary savior. What about the next round of attacks? Chuang Zaiyao already had a bad feeling and regretted flying out of the random attack. Hiding in the corner would have at least protected him from Brook's level 5 skeletons. Random attacks were gone, and running was impossible. Chuang Zaiyao was about to use his City Portal, but it was too late. Brook's Fire Talisman, Skeleton Xiaobai's Axe, and Bayin's Lightning spell all descended almost simultaneously. With a scream of agony, Chuang Zaiyao, the Red Name Night, was instantly killed, and everything in his bag exploded.

"Damn, my Magic Shield! Help me pick it up!" He shouted in front of everyone as the bed shook that night. He had already died, automatically withdrawn from the group, and had no way to speak in his original team.

It would have been a good thing he hadn't shouted. Brook and the others were too busy fighting to notice what he had dropped. The shout actually reminded Brook. The opponent's highest attacking bed shaker was already dead, and the pressure was instantly reduced. Even if the remaining Overlord and Yihongyuan joined forces, they no longer posed a threat.

Brook began searching the ground, and by sheer luck, he found it just two steps to his left. He took a quick step forward, snatching up the Magic Shield before the Overlord could. The Overlord braked suddenly, stopping in front of Brook and swinging Shura at him.

Brook could have chosen to retreat back to Bayin, allowing him to repel the Overlord. However, he chose not to, instead choosing to confront the Overlord head-on. Could his Soul Fire Talisman combined with Xiaobai's attack be inferior to the Overlord's alone? Add to that the 3-4 defense of the Prayer Helmet and the 0-2 defense of the two Cast Iron Rings, and there was no need to retreat.

Bayin, however, couldn't bear to see Overlord forcing himself on Brook at close range. He took a few steps, found an angle, and, resisting the fire ring's push, pushed Overlord into a group of zombies. He waited for Overlord to run back, then bounced back like a yo-yo. This infuriated Overlord, who could only maneuver to avoid Bayin while still hacking at Brook. A level 22 warrior still couldn't assassinate, making him helpless against a high-level mage.

"Haha, no need to push. It doesn't hurt when he hits me. Just shock him." Brooke said, and Bayin stopped her pushing game.

Yi Hongyuan summoned his Level 1 Skeletons, attempting to command them to attack Brook. However, his Skeletons were unresponsive and attacked the nearest Lich King, only to be reduced to dust in two strikes. Yi Hongyuan had no alternative but to make the Overlords invisible before using Fire Talismans to fire long-range shots at Brook.

Bawang and Yihongyuan attacked Brook together, each round of attack could knock out about 35 of Brook's health; while Brook, Bayin, and Xiaobai's attacks on Bawang could knock out 100 of Bawang's health per round. This unequal exchange of blood doomed Bawang to defeat, but he was unwilling to give up and, relying on the abundant sun water, he wanted to make a last-ditch effort.

Overlord's health fluctuated like a rollercoaster, fluctuating drastically, but the overall trend was a steady decline. After a few seconds, Overlord's health was down to less than half. He continued to drink Sun Water, but sadly, he discovered it was gone. Another round of concentrated fire from the enemy: Brook's Fire Rune 28, Xiaobai's 36, and Bayin's Lightning 58, all simultaneously unleashing their maximum attack power. With a bang, the ground was covered in sparks, and Overlord's backpack exploded clean, along with a Death Glove with 1-3 attack power.

The Overlord was lying on the ground. Seeing that Yihongyuan was still insisting on doing something pointless, he said, "Retreat first. Come back later!"

Yihongyuan instantly understood Overlord's intention: retreat first, and then enter the Corpse King's Palace after gathering the troops. So she decisively returned to the city and flew out of the Corpse King's Palace.

"So you two are in the same group. That's great!" Overlord said the last words to Bayin and Brook, then disappeared.

"You are dead!" The bed said something while shaking that night, and then it was reborn.

Only Bayinbuluke and more than 20 corpse kings were left in the Corpse King Palace.

"Let me pick up the stuff." They were both still invisible, and there were many zombie kings around. Brooke turned invisible with each step, picking up the valuable items that fell on the ground.

The two of them chose a corner and ran over to stand. Their movement attracted many zombie kings, who followed them to the corner. Brook turned invisible, and the zombie kings lost their target. Brook randomly chose a zombie king, Bayin stayed in the corner, and he stood outside, facing the zombie king's attacks, and began to clear them out one by one.

Each of these zombies had 500 HP and 800 XP, so the two of them defeated them quickly. However, after defeating several of them, they found that they only dropped small drops. They mainly dropped skill books and gold in the 20s, and some even dropped only three potions, unlike the massive drops from the zombies on the second floor of the mine. Fortunately, Ba Wang and Chuang Yao had previously contributed over ten bundles of potions, so the two of them still had enough.

After defeating over ten more zombies, each with the same result, the two were puzzled and disappointed. Then, a zombie that Brook was fighting died and exploded, cheering both of them up. This zombie dropped a green Prayer Blade: Level 10 requirement, Attack 20-8, Accuracy +20, Attack Speed -3. This was a warrior weapon, and Brook picked it up and put it in his backpack.

It's strange. This zombie king that exploded big is no different. It doesn't hurt when it hits me. It feels no different from the zombie king that exploded small before. Why did it explode big?

Brook pondered. The wild boars from the Xiangshi Tomb looked the same, but they were actually different. Most were ordinary boars with 320 HP, with the occasional premium boar with 500 HP. Premium boars were more likely to drop top-tier equipment. This corpse king was likely to be the same. Although they all had 500 HP, there had to be some difference.

Brook observed them, but couldn't discern any clues. Aside from the one zombie king currently battling them, the remaining ten stood still, unable to detect them. An idea struck Brook. If standing still didn't tell, would running make a difference?

Brook then ordered Bayin to halt his attack and Xiaobai to stay put, standing in a corner to protect Bayin. He then ran out, drawing all the zombie kings behind him. The zombie kings moved slowly, following Brook closely. Brook circled the small room, observing the zombie kings behind him.

Gradually, he noticed a corpse king slowly falling behind the rest of the group, and as time went on, the gap between them became increasingly noticeable. This corpse king's movement speed was slightly slower than the others, and if it weren't for the comparison, it would have been impossible to notice.

Clearly, this corpse king was somewhat different. Brook and the others attacked it first, and as it fell, another massive explosion ensued! As expected, corpse kings were divided into ordinary and top-grade, or rather, true and false. The ones on the second floor of the mine were all true corpse kings, while the ones in the corpse king hall that moved faster and had smaller explosions were false corpse kings.

Why is the real corpse king slower? Could it be that he has a backpack like us, and because he carries too much stuff, he moves slower, which is why he exploded? Brook was still speculating wildly.

Bayin watched Brooke's actions and was surprised and impressed. If it were her, she wouldn't have thought so much and would have just killed the corpse king and been done with it, but she wouldn't have been able to tell the difference between the real and fake corpse kings.

"Hey, Brook, kill all these zombie kings first." Bayin reminded Brook, seeing that he was still lost in thought. Brook then hurried to the corner, and the two of them worked together to kill all the remaining zombie kings.

It was already past 3 p.m. They had already killed all the zombies, and there was no telling when the next wave of zombies would spawn. Bayin was still in the red list, so he could only wait patiently.

"I'll take a break." Bayin greeted him and sat cross-legged in the corner to rest.

When they met previously, Bayin was one level higher than Brooke, primarily because she was more diligent. She only rested for about two hours every 24 hours. If it weren't for her limited backpack space and the fact that mages consume potions quickly, requiring frequent trips back to town to resupply and wasting so much time, her level would surely have been higher.

"You really know how to use your time," Brook said, then looked around the Corpse King Palace. "Hey, do you think we can mine here?"

Bayin ignored him, concentrating on his meditation and rest. Brook actually took out his mattock and went to the other side of the Corpse King's Palace, wielding the pickaxe and digging for ore. But after five or six minutes of digging, changing positions several times, he found nothing but gravel and mud.

This Lich King Palace isn't very good. There's not even a mine. I don't know when the Lich King will spawn. How am I going to kill time?

"Okay, I'll take a break too. Xiaobai, I'll leave it to you. Keep watch." Brook could only return to Bayin's vicinity. Following his example, he sat down with his back against the wall and closed his eyes to rest.

On the battlefield, things change rapidly and everything has to happen against the clock, so rest is also a good choice.

I wonder if that group is still waiting at the mine's first-floor entrance? I wonder how long it will take for the lured yellow-robed burrowing zombie to be discovered.

Hey, why bother with them? Don't think about it now, just rest up.

It is suitable for walking, sitting at ease, and lying down when tired. The sun and moon are long, the world is vast, and leisure is happy.
