Legend of Mir 2: Seeking the Truth in Marfa

Chapter 18: Mining Area Level 2

After they walked a distance, Bayin asked, "Why don't you go back to the city immediately?"

Brooke reminded him, "You are now a red name."

Bayin didn't understand: "So what?"

It turned out that Bayin didn't know that after killing a red-named person, the return scroll would fly to the red-named village. So Brook explained the white-name, gray-name, yellow-name, and red-name.

"How many people have you killed in total?" Brook asked.

"Six people, maybe?" Bayin thought for a moment and replied, "So it will take six hours to recover?"

"If you kill all the white names, it will take 6 hours." Brook said.

Bayin couldn't remember whether those people were gray or white names. "It seems I can't just kill people casually anymore. For now, I can only level up in this mine."

Brook pondered for a moment and said, "Since we're going to level up here, why don't we go deeper into the mine. Let's go to the second floor and fight our way up."

Brook had an idea. According to the notes, there was another entrance to the Corpse King's Palace on the second floor of the Viper Mine, but he couldn't confirm it yet, so he wanted to go and take a look first.

So Brook took Bayin to the second floor of the mine.

The two of them killed zombies along the way. The deeper they went into the mine, the more zombies there were. While the zombie experience wasn't as good as the boars in the Stone Tomb, it was still quite good. After all, zombies only had 155 HP, making them much quicker to kill than the boars in the Stone Tomb. Experience slowly increased, and after walking for over half an hour, they reached the entrance to the second floor of the mine.

Brook entered first. The zombies on the second floor of the mine weren't very dense. He presumably knew other alien warriors had been here before, but it was too deep, so not many had come. After confirming it was safe, he called Bayin down via the team chat.

The two continued to kill zombies. Brooke followed the directions in Situ Haoyun's notes and slowly walked towards the entrance of the Corpse King Palace.

After walking for a while, he heard the sound of chains scraping against the ground ahead. Brooke was delighted. It must be the Zombie King's voice. He followed the sound and, sure enough, a bronze-colored Zombie King appeared before him, surrounded by many of its ordinary zombie minions.

Brook didn't attack directly. He told Bayin to hold off and Xiaobai to rest. He used Poison to lure the Lich King to him, then stood there and let it attack him. The first hit cost him 28 HP, the second 16, the third 20... Brook cast a healing spell on himself while testing the Lich King's damage. He eventually determined that the Lich King could knock off about 21 HP each time, and confirmed that it couldn't reverse its invisibility like the Wedge Moth.

"Alright. Kill it!" The experiment concluded, and Bayin was called to action. This was Bayin's first encounter with a corpse king, and he was surprised by how easy it was to defeat despite its terrifying appearance. The two of them quickly defeated it, revealing a ton of items and potions, though unfortunately, they were all ordinary. Bayin didn't pick up any equipment, but went for the potions first.

"Are you running low on potion?" Brooke asked.

"Well, we're running low on magic potions, so we need to use them sparingly," Bayin replied. While a mage's magic skills are powerful, they also consume a lot of mana. Fortunately, zombies have a decent drop rate, and they often drop low-level or mid-level magic potions.

So Brook handed over more than 10 bundles of high-level magic potions: "Is it enough? If not, I have more." Brook still had more than 30 bundles of magic potions on him.

"How much medicine did you buy? Don't you use it yourself?" Bayin was very surprised. Is the Taoist so frugal with medicine?

"I bought over 60 bundles of medicine when I came here. The Taoist's skills don't consume much potion."

"More than 60 bundles?!" Bayin was shocked. "How big is your backpack?"

"96 grids. It's a reward from the village chief for a mission I completed when the beast tide came." Brook answered truthfully.

Bayin was a little speechless: "...You are so lucky! My backpack only has 48 slots. I wish I could get a quest to increase the capacity of my backpack someday."

Bayin suddenly remembered something and walked over to hand all 20 black iron ores to Brook: "Since your backpack is so big, just help me carry it and return it to me after we return to the city."

Originally, Bayin's backpack was half occupied by 20 ores. In addition to potions, the remaining space also had to store teleportation scrolls, solar water, torches, etc., which was very tight and inconvenient to use. Now that the ores were given to Brook, he felt much more comfortable.

The second-floor map was even more complex than the first, and the path to the Corpse King's Palace was quite a distance. The zombies were numerous, indicating that few people had come here yet. After all, for the otherworldly warriors, it was only the fourth day since their arrival, and most were still around level 18 or 19, either in the Zombie Cave or the Skull Cave in Biqi or in more convenient leveling locations like the Stone Tomb in Tucheng. Therefore, fewer people came to the Viper Mine, and even fewer still had to fight their way from the first floor to the second.

After pushing deeper for over half an hour, they unexpectedly encountered another corpse king. After killing him, another massive explosion occurred. This time, in addition to potions, they also found a prayer helmet. This was perfect for Bayin, as it significantly increased his defense.

Bayin was also delighted. She had begun to like the second floor of the mine, with its numerous monsters and even a leader. Unfortunately, the map was too vast, the distance too long, and her backpack wasn't full of potions. Otherwise, she might consider staying there permanently. That would require a large backpack like Brook's.

About half an hour later, the terrain gradually ascended, and the two men arrived at a plateau on the second-level mining area. The space here was relatively wide, with a rock protrusion in the center. Brook paused. According to his notes, the second entrance to the Corpse King's Palace was nearby. If they approached, a yellow-robed burrowing zombie similar to the one on the first floor of the mine would likely emerge from the ground.

Brooke hadn't been completely certain, so he hadn't told Bayin about the second-floor Corpse King Palace. He wasn't sure if there was an entrance, nor was he sure if this Corpse King Palace was connected to the one above.

Brooke asked Bayin, "Let's stop for a moment. How many wound medicines and magic potions do you have left?"

"About 8 bundles of high-level wound medicine and 2 bundles of high-level magic medicine." Bayin counted the backpack.

"Where are the sun water and random rolls?" Brooke asked again.

"What? Is there danger ahead?" Bayin keenly noticed Brook's strangeness, but still replied: "I just picked up some Sun Water, 12 in total, 3 random scrolls, and 1 return scroll."

Brooke had about the same amount of Golden Healing Medicine and Sun Water as Bayin, and he still had 12 bundles of magic potions. He pulled six bundles of high-level magic potions from his backpack, then randomly handed another bundle to Bayin, saying, "Take it. I'm not sure if it's dangerous."

Brooke walked slowly forward. Suddenly, a yellow-robed zombie emerged from the dirt. Brooke breathed a sigh of relief. Sure enough, this was the place. Perhaps no one had discovered this entrance yet.

Bayin stared at Brook curiously. How did Brook know there was a Corpse King Palace here? It was a long way from the first floor all the way here, but he had hardly walked any extra distance, just heading straight here.

Bayin didn't ask any more questions. Everyone has secrets. If Brooke wanted to tell her, he would tell her.

"My master Situ Haoyun told me that there is also an entrance to the Corpse King Palace on the second floor. But I'm not sure where it is exactly, I just know it's probably around here." Brook said to Bayin.

"Your master?"

"Well, Situ Haoyun is my master. During the monk assessment, he accepted me as his disciple." Brook explained.

"We don't know how long this passage will last. Maybe just one minute, maybe two. So if we want to go down, we can't delay too long," Brooke said quickly. "What I'm not sure about now is whether this second-level Corpse King Palace is a separate one, or if it's part of the same one as the first. But either way, there's danger down there."

"I understand what you mean. If it's a separate Corpse King Hall, then it's full of Corpse Kings. If it's the same Corpse King Hall, then you might run into Overlord and his men there."

Bayin Road.

"I'll go in first. I'm a Taoist priest, I have a lot of health, and I can become invisible." Brook looked at the cave entrance and said to Bayin who was standing beside him, "If it's safe down there, I'll notify you in the team chat. If I don't notify you, and if you see me disband the team, it means I've already flown back to Tucheng. It means it's very dangerous down there, so don't go down. Just kill the zombies slowly here and wait until the red name disappears before going back."

There was another possibility, which Brook didn't mention. If the team was suddenly disbanded, it could also mean that he was dead. Brook thought of it, but it wouldn't happen, so there was no need to mention it.

Brook was about to step forward when Bayin grabbed his arm and said, "If it's dangerous, why bother going in? There's no need for us to take risks. We can come back when we're at a higher level."

"Don't worry. Trust me." Although it seemed dangerous, Brooke was still very confident.

He had just tested the zombies' attack power. With his current health of 170, the zombies had an average attack of 21 points, which was just enough to withstand eight zombies at once. Of course, this average wasn't entirely reliable. If several zombies were to reach their maximum attack capacity, Brook would be instantly killed. However, he didn't think that would happen, as the invincible turtle had previously mentioned that there were a large number of zombies inside, and he wasn't killed by the zombies when he entered, but was cleared out during the fight.

Since fighting can still be carried out inside, it means that even if there are many zombie kings inside, they are not densely packed. At least there is still some space for running. Otherwise, how can those alien warriors fight? They won't even have time to fight the zombie kings.

Since the turtle that can't starve to death can survive in there for a while, Brook can do it even better.

As for the other scenario, where there were few or no zombie kings inside, only Overlord and the others, Brook wasn't worried. Currently, the attack power of these alien warriors was even inferior to that of the zombie kings. Furthermore, he had hidden the yellow-robed zombies at the entrance to the zombie king's palace, so they wouldn't be found and killed for a while. So, even if there were people inside, they wouldn't be very numerous.

Brook added the magic defense attribute of the ghost shield skill to himself, Bayin, and the skeleton baby Xiaobai again, held his breath, and walked into the cave entrance.

His vision went dark, then immediately brightened, revealing him in a room. Brook immediately became invisible. He could hear the clang of the zombie king's chains and roars. From the upper left, he could hear the wind piercing as a warrior swung his weapon, the crackle of a mage's lightning spell, and the dripping sound of a Taoist priest's healing spell.

Brook quickly looked around. There was a Corpse King three steps behind him, so he was safe for the time being. The room was quite large, and he seemed to be right in the center. The torchlight was limited, so he couldn't confirm it completely. Brook simply ran a small circle around the center of the room, finally taking in the entire Corpse King Hall.

The Corpse King Hall is a relatively large square room, with most Corpse Kings surrounding the upper left corner. There are also over 10 other Corpse Kings scattered around the room, giving them ample room to maneuver.

As for the people surrounded in the corner, Brooke took a closer look and realized that it was the Bawang who forced himself on the bed that night and monopolized the three people in Yihongyuan. The Bawang and the bed were both red names.

Ba Wang and his companions also spotted Brook, their hearts sinking. Just as Chuang Yao and Yi Hong Yuan were about to launch a ranged attack, Brook had already retreated two steps, out of range, leaving only the glimmer of their torch. The three of them were helpless against him. They were already killing the Corpse King, and surrounded, unable to escape. Only one random scroll remained. All three stared intently at the direction of Brook's torch, especially Ba Wang and Chuang Yao, wishing they could kill him with their eyes.

Brooke saw this and guessed that the three men were running low on randoms, and he was delighted. He called out to Bayin in the group, "I'm in the center of the room, safe. There are over 30 zombie kings, and the three Tyrants are surrounded by them in the upper left corner. If you want revenge, come!"

Bayin stepped into the cave entrance and landed right next to Brooke, who cast a collective invisibility spell on her.

Bayin saw Brook, the zombie kings around him, and the Overlord and the bed shaker who were surrounded by zombie kings in the corner.
