Legend of Mir 2: Seeking the Truth in Marfa
Chapter 14 Bayin
Brook continued to kill monsters in the Xiangshi Ancient Tomb, going in and out three times, sweeping back and forth.
The skill level of summoning skeletons is already level 1. The summoned Xiaobai is directly a level 1 mutated skeleton, and it can be upgraded to level 3 by killing monsters.
With Xiaobai's attack power improving further, coupled with his own equipment upgrades, it now takes him just over 300 seconds to kill a normal black-red boar with just over 10 HP. There are many monsters here again. While not as densely packed as at the beginning, they are still endless. This is a perfect place for Brook to level up, earning over 7 experience points in an hour.
It was already 10 p.m. Brooke's body flashed with golden light, and he reached level 23.
It's time to rest. Having already been to Tucheng, the main city now is Tucheng. Brook crushed a Return Scroll and whizzed back to Tucheng Square. He'd just killed some bats and dropped some Return Scrolls, so there was no need to save them.
Brooke came to the Tucheng Hotel and rented a room. After entering the room, Brooke did not rest immediately. Instead, he took out his notebook, picked up a pen, and wrote on the blank page:
"First floor of the Xiangshi Ancient Tomb," he sketched out a map from memory, marking the entrance and exit, and noting "Monsters: Zombies, Electric Zombies, Corpse Kings..."
After more than half an hour, Brook finally completed the map of the three levels of the Xiangshi Ancient Tomb. Satisfied, Brook closed his master Situ Haoyun's notes.
He still didn't sleep, so he called Xiaobai to his front and asked it to stand still.
"Xiaobai, do you remember me? Your friend, Master, Brook..."
"Xiaobai, you killed a lot of monsters today. You did a great job..."
"Xiaobai, today I'm going to teach you how to count. This is 1, 1 plus 1 equals 2, and this is 2..."
"Xiaobai, are you hungry? Do you want to eat something? Do you want some medicine for wounds? Or chicken..."
Brook started Xiaobai's training again. Xiaobai, now at level 3, had significantly faster movement and attack speed than before at level 0. He was also supposed to be smarter.
After an hour of training, Xiaobai still hadn't responded. But Brooke felt very relieved. He'd taught him a lot, and even though he didn't seem to have learned it yet, he knew with perseverance that progress would be made. He was tired today, so he finally lay down to rest contentedly.
The next morning, Brook changed into light armor again and left the inn. Tucheng was much quieter than it had been during the day. A few alien warriors stood in the square, dazed and motionless, as if this was how they slept.
Brook went to the store and sold some common items from the monster drop he'd gotten yesterday. He then went to the warehouse and confirmed that his personal storage had grown to 120 spaces, confirming he hadn't been tricked by the Shabak warehouse owner. He then stored the few remaining top-quality items in his backpack.
魔法1-4的放大镜项链,魔法1-4的法师20级武器偃月,0-2的黑檀手镯,攻击10-15的战士25级武器凝霜,攻击1-3的死神手套。
The monster drop rate in the Xiangshi Ancient Tomb is quite high, especially on the second and third floors. Those elite wild boars with 500 HP have a chance of dropping some small, top-tier equipment. Unfortunately, yesterday's results were mostly mage or warrior gear, leaving his own Taoist priest with very little gear. He felt a bit disappointed. He had to save it for now and trade it with others when the time comes.
Brook went to the southeast of the earthen city and replenished his potions, amulets, and torches. Finally, he came to the vicinity of the knife-wielding guard. He was already level 23 and could train a level 2 skeleton.
The skill of summoning skeletons is currently at level 1, with experience 3/2000. It needs to be summoned nearly 2000 times before it can be upgraded.
At the south gate of Tucheng, Brook practiced summoning skeletons. There were two sword-wielding guards, each of which needed a four-second rest after attacking. With the two sword-wielding guards taking turns attacking, Brook could summon a skeleton baby every two seconds for the sword-wielding guards to slash and kill. The skeletons transformed into a pile of bone fragments, and his skill proficiency increased by one point.
Because he was a little bored, he summoned a skeleton with every step he took. Gradually, the bone fragments on the ground were neatly arranged in rows. Occasionally, the alien warriors passing by would stop the script out of curiosity and stand to watch for a while, as if they were marveling at the neatness of the skeleton fragments, and also admiring the hard work of the skeleton Taoist priest.
"This stupid Taoist priest is not going to sleep in the middle of the night. He is practicing skeleton banging here..." Another passerby passed by.
Well, it’s 4 a.m. now, so it can be considered the second half of the night.
As Brook continued to summon, he gradually became absorbed in it, unconsciously absorbing the subtleties of the Skeleton Summoning skill. Each Skeleton Summoning consumed three Amulets, and he hadn't previously considered why three Amulets were required. Now, however, he seemed to sense the different functions of these three Amulets: one to open a void passage, one to summon the Skeleton from within, and the last to sign a master-servant contract with the Skeleton. The entire process was so brief that it would be difficult to notice unless one was immersed in it.
The predecessor who created the Skeleton Summoning skill was truly a genius, able to come up with such a complex skill. Where does that void passage lead to? What are the specific contents of that contract? It can't just be unconditional obedience for the Skeleton, right? Will the master have to pay something in return?
I don't know, I can't see clearly, I don't understand. If I can't figure it out, I'll just forget about it for now and talk about it later.
Brook also observed that the maximum attack distance of the knife-wielding guard was 8 steps (step = grid). If the Skeleton Baby was exactly 9 steps away from the knife-wielding guard, the Skeleton Baby would be safe. The maximum distance between the Skeleton Baby and its master was 12 steps. Beyond this distance, the Skeleton Baby would teleport behind its master. This also explains why the Skeleton Baby couldn't enter the cave before the master when they went down, because it could only be in the same map as its master. Otherwise, even if it exceeded the maximum distance, it would teleport to its master's side.
The sword-wielding guard's attack was also unique. He had never understood why, as long as a demon beast appeared within its range, no matter how far or near, it could leap to its side and strike with its sword raised. Why could this single leap cover such a distance? Brooke truly couldn't understand.
Brook practiced slowly until the eastern sky was just beginning to pale, and he finally reached level 2 of the Skeleton Summoning Technique. He practiced for nearly an hour, using up over thirty bundles of intermediate magic potions and ten super amulets.
Brook now has over a million gold coins, and being so wealthy, he doesn't mind spending money on medicine. Taoist priests have skeleton babies to help with attacks, and healing spells to restore health. Compared to mages and warriors, they are very economical with medicine.
After restocking his potions and amulets, Brook trotted towards the Stone Tomb. Ignoring the scattered black maggots and red boars he encountered along the way, he ran straight to the junction of the second floor of the Stone Tomb and the Incense Stone Tomb, changed into his Soul Battle Suit, and prepared to go in and continue leveling.
Brook walked up the stairs and found no monsters around. He immediately had a bad feeling. He ran straight in. There was no one along the way until he turned into the corridor. Finally, a monster appeared. It was not a living monster, but a monster corpse lying on the ground.
There's someone ahead. Brooke pondered for a moment, then checked the medicine and teleportation scroll, then calmly walked forward.
You can either fight, team up, or level up on your own. The worst-case scenario is that you just have to level up somewhere else, so what else can you do?
In the distance, there were crackling sounds of thunder and lightning. After walking a little further, they saw the light of a torch. The enemy seemed to have heard the footsteps behind them, stopped attacking, turned around, and looked at the person behind them.
Bayin, a female mage, dressed in black robes, not tall but with a beautiful figure and a ponytail, turned and looked at Brooke. Her torch suddenly crackled, emitting a dazzling white light, covering her entire face in a pure white glow.
This is the phenomenon that occurs when a torch is used up. There will be a moment of intense burning, like a meteor falling to the ground, emitting a final flash, but it also exhausts its life and completes its mission.
"Excuse me." The female mage took out another torch and then greeted Brook generously: "Hello, Brook, I see you. My name is Bayin, a level 24 mage."
"Hello, Bayin." Brooke greeted calmly. The Bayin in front of him was a Marfa monk! Brooke's tone was calm, but she was happy in her heart because she finally met a Marfa monk. At the same time, Brooke was a little confused: "Have you seen me?"
"Half an hour ago, at the south gate of Tucheng, you were training a Level 2 Skeleton, very seriously. You were wearing light armor at the time." Bayin smiled, his words clear and steady. When he mentioned the light armor, he glanced at Brook's white Soul Battlesuit, a hint of amusement in his expression.
Brook suddenly understood that he wore light armor to conceal his level, but a level 2 skeleton could only be trained at level 23, so his level was exposed, and anyone smart could see it.
"Oh, actually, that light armor is quite good, it's top quality." Brooke found an excuse to explain and then asked, "Where are you from?"
"Venomous Snake Valley, Valley Village. What about you?" Bayin replied.
"Biqi Ginkgo Village. So, your master is Shangguan Yanling?" Brook continued to ask.
Bayin paused for a moment, then said, "Lord Shangguan Yanling is my examiner, not my master."
Bayin was a woman with a gift for magic, and quite a formidable one at that. By the time Shangguan Yanling went to Valley Village for the assessment, she had already reached Level 7 and could even perform the mage skill, Fireball. However, Shangguan Yanling didn't accept her as a disciple; she simply passed the assessment and officially enrolled Bayin in the ranks of the monks. If Bayin wished, she could go to the Mage's House in Biqi and learn from a senior mage, but that was all.
Brooke recalled the magic test, which required illuminating the gemstone on the staff. It seemed Bayin had passed the test because he was born with a talent for magic, unlike him. Shangguan Yanling had not accepted her as a disciple.
Brook suddenly felt that he might be really lucky. An ordinary person who did not have the physique of a cultivator, met Situ Haoyun, who took a liking to him for some unknown reason. The man asked him an exam question that was obviously deliberately set to let him off, and then helped him open up his Taoist physique, and eventually he became a disciple of the inheritance.
Seeing Bayin looking at him with some confusion, Brook changed the subject: "Sorry, I said it wrong. My examiner is Situ Haoyun. How about we kill the monster first and talk slowly?"
Bayin nodded. Since they were all from Marfa, there was no need to be too vigilant. Then he teamed up with Brook and started killing wild boars together.
Teaming is a magical contract of cooperation between monks. To form a team, both parties must sign the contract in person. This process is quick: the captain sends a team invitation, the members agree, and the contract takes effect. Once a team is formed, a bond is established, allowing both parties to share experiences and engage in in-team chats. These chats are inaudible to others.
After forming a team, if the distance between the two parties becomes too far, the team will be automatically disbanded. Death, including loss of consciousness (such as sleeping), will also automatically cause the player to leave the team.
Furthermore, experience sharing has its limitations. Both players must be present when slaying a monster; if one player is absent, experience sharing cannot occur. However, when two players team up, experience sharing increases their total experience by 380%, while for three players, it increases to 380%. For example, if a black boar originally has 1.1 experience points, with two players teaming up, the total experience points will be 418 times 2, or 24 points. This is then divided between the two players based on their level. Currently, Bayin, at level 213, is higher, and gains 23 experience points, while Brook, at level 205, gains .
Bayin's Lightning spell was incredibly powerful, far surpassing Brook's Soul Fire Talisman. Furthermore, the lightning struck its target directly from the sky, ignoring obstacles, a feat Brook envied. Bayin, in turn, praised the usefulness of Brook's Skeleton Baby. Originally level 2, Skeleton Baby Xiaobai could be upgraded to level 5 by killing monsters, achieving an attack power of 10-37, and its attack and movement speed doubled.
