Hidden truth, intricate love
Chapter 15 Police intervention
Su Wanqing walked out of the cafe, a hint of unease in her eyes. The meeting with Li Ming had made her feel unprecedented pressure. His words were full of hints, as if telling her that she had been involved in a situation more complicated than she had imagined.
"Li Ming, what do you know?" Su Wanqing muttered to herself, and at the same time quickened her pace, wanting to leave this suffocating place as soon as possible.
The city seemed particularly cold and indifferent at night, and the shadows under the streetlights stretched out long. Su Wanqing felt an unprecedented loneliness and fear. She knew that from this moment on, she could not trust anyone except herself.
"Every step must be taken with caution, as every decision could mean life or death." Su Wanqing warned herself, while vigilantly observing the movements around her.
Suddenly, Su Wanqing felt a chill, a sense of being watched. She turned and saw several men in black suits following her with an almost mechanical pace. Their eyes were cold and their steps were firm; they were clearly professionally trained trackers.
"Who are they? Why are they following me?" Su Wanqing's heartbeat quickened. She felt an unprecedented sense of crisis. She knew she had to act immediately, otherwise everything would be irreversible.
Su Wanqing turned abruptly and ran into a narrow alley. On the slippery ground, her footsteps echoed in the empty alley, and each echo was like a countdown to death.
"Hurry, faster!" Su Wanqing urged herself mentally as she weaved through the narrow alleys, trying her best to avoid the sight of those men in black. Su Wanqing's breathing became rapid, but her inner voice told her not to give up.
Just when Su Wanqing was about to be caught up and had almost no way to escape, she saw a policeman on duty at the intersection ahead. This was her only hope, and she had to seize this opportunity.
"Officer, save me!" Su Wanqing cried out, her voice filled with despair and a cry for help. She grabbed the bag containing the important documents from her bag and threw it at the officer with all her might.
Officer Zhang Xiaofei was stunned for a moment, then realized the seriousness of the situation. She quickly caught the flying document bag and looked at Su Wanqing firmly, "Don't worry, I will ensure their safety."
Su Wanqing said nothing more, turned around and left, quickly blending into the crowd and disappearing into the night. Zhang Xiaofei looked at her back, and an inexplicable sense of responsibility surged in his heart.
Zhang Xiaofei returned home to find her father sitting in his study, wearing reading glasses and concentrating on reading a thick law book. She knocked on the door, took a deep breath, and walked in.
"Dad, I need your help." Zhang Xiaofei's voice trembled slightly. She knew that what was going to be discussed next was of great importance.
Zhang's father raised his head, took off his glasses, and a trace of concern appeared in his eyes: "Xiaofei, what happened? You look a little nervous."
Zhang Xiaofei put the file bag on the desk, took a deep breath, and then began to narrate the whole incident, from Su Wanqing's sudden appearance, to the tracking of those men in black, to the uneasiness and fear in her heart.
Father Zhang listened attentively, his brows gradually furrowed. He could feel the seriousness and urgency of the case.
"This case..." Father Zhang pondered for a moment, then slowly spoke, "Xiaofei, you have to understand that what we are facing may not just be some ordinary documents, but a door to the abyss. The Gu Group's influence is spread across all levels, and their hands may reach much further than you imagine."
Zhang Xiaofei nodded, a determined glint in her eyes. “I understand, Dad. But these documents could affect the fate of many people. We can’t just sit back and do nothing.”
Father Zhang sighed. He knew his daughter's determination and understood her courage. "Okay, I'll do everything I can to help you. But we have to be careful and proceed with caution. The Gu Group is not an opponent we can easily defeat."
Zhang Xiaofei held her father's hand tightly. She could feel the calluses and strength in his hand. "Thank you, Dad. I know this is hard, but I believe that justice will prevail over evil."
Father Zhang patted his daughter's shoulder, his eyes full of trust and pride: "I have always believed in you, Xiaofei. Let us uncover the truth of this case together, no matter how difficult it is." The eyes of the father and daughter met at that moment, and each other's hearts received a kind of unspoken support and strength.
Zhang Xiaofei knew that what she held might not only be some documents but also the key to uncovering the truth. She decided to take the documents back to the police station early the next morning and meet with Su Wanqing again.
Meanwhile, after safely escaping pursuit, Su Wanqing found a secluded place to temporarily hide. She knew she couldn't let her guard down and had to be prepared for any action the Gu Group might take.
She used the contact information she had previously left for Zhang Xiaofei and waited for Zhang Xiaofei's reply, hoping that the two of them could work together to bring the truth to light.
As she waited, Su Wanqing's heart sank. She recalled her conversation with Li Ming, each word hammering against her heart. She knew the documents she held could be the key to uncovering the Gu Group's crimes, or they could be the trigger that puts her in danger.
The first rays of sunlight filtered through the gaps in the curtains and fell onto Zhang Xiaofei's desk. She rubbed her sleepy eyes, looking at the pile of documents she had worked on last night.
"Xiaofei, you didn't go home last night again?" Colleague Xiao Li walked in with a cup of steaming hot coffee in his hand and handed it to Zhang Xiaofei.
"Well, these documents are too important. I have to hurry." Zhang Xiaofei took the coffee and took a sip. The bitter taste made her mind clearer.
Xiao Li looked around and lowered his voice: "I heard this case is very difficult, you have to be careful."
Zhang Xiaofei nodded, knowing in her heart that this was not just a case, but also a battle between justice and evil.
Meanwhile, Su Wanqing was also nervously preparing on the other side of the city. She knew that today she and Zhang Xiaofei would face an unprecedented challenge together.
The two met in a cafe near the police station. The raindrops outside hit the window, making a crisp sound.
"Officer Zhang, thank you for helping me." There was a slight tremor in Su Wanqing's voice, but more of it was firmness.
Zhang Xiaofei shook her hand and said with a smile, “We are all for the truth, Miss Su. Now, let’s get started.”
They began to discuss the details of the case, carefully examining every document and every clue. The cafe was bustling with people, but the two seemed to be in another world, with only each other's voices and the sound of rain outside the window.
"Here," Zhang Xiaofei pointed to the date on a document, "this date is crucial. We need to find the surveillance footage from that day."
Su Wanqing nodded, a glint in her eyes: "Yes, and I have a friend who works at the traffic monitoring center, maybe he can help us retrieve the information."
Just as they were about to leave the cafe, Zhang Xiaofei's phone suddenly rang. It was an emergency call from the police.
"Xiaofei, it's bad. The people behind the scenes have discovered our actions and they are rushing to the cafe." An anxious voice of a colleague came from the other end of the phone.
Zhang Xiaofei and Su Wanqing looked at each other, and both understood the seriousness of the situation.
"We have to hurry." Zhang Xiaofei quickly packed up the documents and the two hurriedly left the cafe.
The rain outside was getting heavier, and the streets were deserted, with only the sound of raindrops hitting the ground. The two hid under a narrow eaves, and the rain dripped down the eaves, forming a curtain of water.
"What should we do now?" Su Wanqing asked anxiously.
Zhang Xiaofei took a deep breath, a flicker of determination in her eyes. "We can't just sit there and wait for death. We must take the initiative. I know a place where we might have what we need."
As the investigation deepened, Zhang Xiaofei and Su Wanqing gradually realized that they were facing not only the power of the Gu Group, but also the unknown forces hidden in the dark.
Late one night, the two were in a suburban archive room, looking through thick case records, trying to find clues related to the group behind the scenes.
"These files are too messy. We have to find a way to filter the information." Zhang Xiaofei rubbed his tired eyes, with a hint of anxiety in his voice.
Su Wanqing nodded, her eyes scanning the archives. "We can arrange them chronologically to see if there are any recurring keywords or characters."
At this moment, the lights in the archive room suddenly flickered, and then the whole room fell into darkness.
"What's going on?" Su Wanqing asked nervously. She could feel the air around her seemed to become tense in an instant.
Zhang Xiaofei quickly pulled out her phone and used the screen's light to illuminate the surroundings: "Maybe there's something wrong with the circuit, but it could also be..."
Before she finished her words, the door of the archive room was flung open and several men in black rushed in.
"Hurry, come this way!" Zhang Xiaofei pulled Su Wanqing up, and the two quickly hid in a small compartment in the archive room and locked the door.
Their hearts were beating like drums, and they held their breath, listening to the footsteps outside getting closer and closer.
The man in black began to rummage through the archives room, apparently looking for Zhang Xiaofei and Su Wanqing.
"How did they know we were here?" Su Wanqing asked in a low voice, with a hint of fear in her voice.
Zhang Xiaofei held the phone tightly, brows furrowed. “We might have a mole.”
The sounds of searching outside gradually faded away, and the two took the opportunity to quietly leave the archive room, but they knew that the police station was no longer safe.
Over the next few days, Zhang Xiaofei and Su Wanqing had to hide in various corners of the city while continuing their investigation.
They interviewed former employees of the Gu Group, but most refused to speak out of fear.
"They are so scared. We have to find a way to convince them that we are serious." Su Wanqing said to Zhang Xiaofei after a secret meeting.
Zhang Xiaofei nodded, her eyes gleaming with determination. "We need to find more compelling evidence to show them the true face of the group behind this."
By chance, the two learned that the group behind the scenes was going to conduct a secret transaction at an abandoned dock.
"This is an opportunity, we have to seize it." Zhang Xiaofei clenched her fists, she knew this might be their only chance to get closer to the truth.
As night fell and the sea breeze carried a salty, cool smell, Zhang Xiaofei and Su Wanqing, wearing dark waterproof clothing, quietly advanced along the shadows of the pier. Their goal was to record the secret transactions of the Gu Group, which might be the key to uncovering their entire criminal network.
"Xiaofei, do you see that container?" Su Wanqing whispered and pointed to an isolated container. Its location far away from other goods made it look particularly suspicious.
Zhang Xiaofei nodded, her eyes sharp as an eagle. "That might be the trading location. We need to get closer, but we can't be seen."
The two approached the container cautiously, using the containers and other obstacles on the dock as cover. Their hearts pounded in their chests, and every breath was carefully controlled.
As they approached their target, they saw several figures in black windbreakers gathering near the container, their movements cautious and quick.
"They are coming." Su Wanqing said softly. She took out a small camera from her backpack, adjusted the lens, and began to record every detail of the transaction.
Zhang Xiaofei pulled out a high-powered telescope and carefully observed the faces of the two parties involved in the transaction and the items being exchanged. She whispered to Su Wanqing, describing the scene: "Three men, two carrying suitcases, one holding a black plastic bag... They were exchanging items."
Su Wanqing operated the camera intently, ensuring the footage was stable and clear. She knew the footage would be crucial evidence and must remain intact.
Suddenly, a slight noise caught their attention. Zhang Xiaofei quickly turned around and saw a man in black walking towards them, apparently on patrol.
"We have to hurry, someone is coming." Zhang Xiaofei warned in a low voice. She and Su Wanqing quickly but carefully moved behind a larger container and continued their surveillance and recording work.
The man in black walked past their previous position, found nothing unusual, and continued patrolling forward.
Zhang Xiaofei and Su Wanqing breathed a sigh of relief, but they knew that time was running out and they had to collect enough evidence before the transaction was completed.
The transaction was quickly concluded, and the men in black quickly dispersed. Zhang Xiaofei and Su Wanqing also carefully left the dock. They returned to a safe place and began to review the recorded video.
"These images are very clear. We captured their faces and the transaction process." Su Wanqing said with satisfaction. She imported the video into the computer and began to edit and mark the key scenes.
Zhang Xiaofei recorded the details and times of the transactions in a notebook, knowing that this information would be crucial to building her case.
"We have enough evidence. Now we need to find the right time and way to make this information public." Zhang Xiaofei's eyes flashed with determination. She knew it would be a tough battle, but they were ready.
Su Wanqing nodded. She knew that no matter how difficult the road ahead was, as long as Zhang Xiaofei was by her side, they would be able to find a way to overcome the difficulties.
"We've been discovered!" Su Wanqing exclaimed. The two of them immediately turned around and ran away, but the men in black had already surrounded them.
The night fell like a heavy curtain over the abandoned dock. Lurking in the shadows, Zhang Xiaofei and Su Wanqing witnessed the beginning of the transaction. But a blinding flash of light exposed them, and the tense atmosphere froze.
Quick, split up! "Zhang Xiaofei whispered the order, and she and Su Wanqing quickly dispersed, using the containers and abandoned machinery on the dock as cover.
The men in black reacted quickly, surrounding the two men with electric batons and police batons. Zhang Xiaofei tightly grasped the police baton she carried with her, a calm glint in her eyes.
The first man in black rushed over. Zhang Xiaofei dodged his attack and hit him on the wrist with her baton, sending the electric baton crashing to the ground. Without hesitation, she spun around and kicked him in the abdomen. The man doubled over in pain, and she quickly subdued him.
Su Wanqing was no pushover either, using her quick reaction ability in emergency situations to dodge the opponent's attacks. A man in black tried to attack from behind, but Su Wanqing seemed to have noticed it. She turned around and hit the man in the face with her elbow, then kicked the weapon out of his hand.
During the fight, both fighters displayed exceptional fighting skills and tacit coordination. Zhang Xiaofei deliberately exposed a flaw in a close combat, luring her opponent to attack, while Su Wanqing seized the opportunity to attack from the flank, and the two of them worked together to subdue her opponent.
But the men in black seemed to keep coming, and their numerical advantage gradually put pressure on Zhang Xiaofei and Su Wanqing. Once, Zhang Xiaofei was attacked by two opponents at the same time. She calmly analyzed the situation and used a rope from the dock as a weapon. She wrapped one end around a baton and swung it hard. The rope lashed like a whip on one of her opponents' legs, causing him to lose his balance.
At this moment, Su Wanqing rushed over from the other side to support them. The two stood back to back, facing the remaining men in black. Their breathing was rapid, but their eyes revealed an unyielding will.
"We can't fall here." Zhang Xiaofei whispered, her voice firm and powerful.
Su Wanqing nodded, she gripped the metal rod tightly in her hand, ready for the next round of attack.
Just as the men in black were about to launch their final charge, police sirens were heard in the distance, and Zhang Xiaofei's colleagues and support teams finally arrived. The men in black realized that the situation had reversed and began to flee in all directions, but it was too late.
The police quickly took control of the scene and subdued the remaining men in black one by one. Zhang Xiaofei and Su Wanqing leaned against the container, breathing heavily, but their eyes were filled with the joy of victory.
"Did you get the video?" Zhang Xiaofei asked anxiously.
Su Wanqing nodded. She took out the memory card from her pocket and showed it to Zhang Xiaofei: "It's all here. We got it."
Zhang Xiaofei breathed a sigh of relief. She knew that this evidence would be the key to combating the Gu Group. "Okay, now we have to find a safe place to organize this evidence."
"We did it." Su Wanqing said softly, with a hint of excitement in her voice that was hard to conceal.
Zhang Xiaofei responded with a smile: "Yes, we did it. But this is just the beginning, we still have a long way to go."
