Chapter 7 Namtso
Namtso Lake was originally just one of the many lakes at the foot of the Ramu Snow Mountain, a very ordinary one. But just five years ago, a group of uninvited guests suddenly appeared, making this once noisy lake quiet again.
These adorable creatures are the Tibetan antelope, a national first-class protected species. They suddenly migrated here, making this lake a forbidden area, where no one can enter anymore.
After crossing a glacier, the road ahead suddenly became clear, and the sky-blue lake seemed to appear out of thin air before our eyes.
The lake under the snow-capped mountains seems particularly peaceful. Apart from the Tibetan antelopes leisurely strolling by the lake, the only things left are the eagles circling in the sky.
Beneath the cliffs by the lake, a stone house stood quietly. Smoke rose from the house, drifting gently toward the snow-capped mountains in the distance.
Near the lake's edge, a silver-haired man sat cross-legged on a rock. His belt and sleeves rustled in the wind. Beside him sat a wooden stand, upon which rested an eagle, which had fallen from the sky.
Lin Tao adjusted the sunglasses on his nose and walked briskly towards where the man was sitting.
Seeing someone coming, the eagle on the shelf stared fiercely in Lin Tao's direction and made a few low cooing sounds.
The silver-haired man opened his eyes, and his slightly cloudy eyes looked at Lin Tao who was walking behind him. For a moment, the cloudy eyes seemed to become much clearer.
"Doji Benma?" Lin Tao asked the silver-haired man.
The silver-haired man clasped his hands together, nodded at him, and closed his eyes again.
"No outsiders are allowed in here. Please go back."
Doji Benma's voice was very low, as if it came from the bottom of the lake.
Lin Tao didn't care and walked over to sit down next to him. The eagle standing on the shelf tilted its head and looked at Lin Tao, its eyes full of confusion and vigilance.
Lin Tao raised his head and glanced at the eagle. The eagle's eyes immediately shifted away, but it didn't leave. It just flapped its wings a few times, then turned its head to look in the direction of Haizi, motionless.
The wind blew across the eagle's back, and its gray-brown feathers swayed in the wind.
"I came all the way here to see you," Lin Tao said calmly, his eyes fixed on the distant lake, which was rippling slightly. The lake, as bright as a sapphire, seemed even more mysterious and beautiful.
Doji Benma continued to whisper in a language that Lin Tao could not understand, and did not seem surprised at all by Lin Tao's appearance.
"Enemy? Old friend?" After a long while, Doji Benma finally asked, "New friend or old friend?"
Lin Tao smiled slightly and picked up a stone from the ground nearby. He clasped his hands together, held the stone in his hands, put it close to his forehead and prayed softly, then threw the stone into the lake.
Doji Benma opened his eyes and looked sideways at Lin Tao who was concentrating on doing all this.
"Neither a friend nor an enemy, maybe he can be considered an old acquaintance." Lin Tao took off his glasses and turned to look at the silver-haired man.
"From your eyes, I see the shadow of an old friend. You are..."
There was a hint of doubt in Doji Benma's eyes.
"My surname is Lin."
Just these simple words, and Doji Benma's eyes immediately changed subtly. Lin Tao couldn't accurately describe the emotion contained in that look, perhaps anticipation, perhaps anxiety, or perhaps happiness.
"It's been 15 years, and I still can't hide." Doji Benma looked in Haizi's direction, "Are you Lin Tao?"
Lin Tao nodded noncommittally. Doji Benma looked at him again and murmured, "Alike, very similar. You and Brother Lin really look alike."
Lin Tao's expression was calm, showing no signs of emotion. Doji Benma's eyes clearly revealed a hint of appreciation and affirmation. "You're much calmer than Brother Lin was back then."
The corners of Lin Tao's mouth rose slightly, and his signature smile appeared on his face.
"What do you want to know?" For some reason, Doji Benma felt that there were many things hidden in his smile.
"How much do you know about what happened back then? And the whereabouts of my sister." Lin Tao looked at him, and a hint of hope finally emerged in his deep eyes.
"Hu~" Doji Benma took a deep breath, raised his head and looked at the eagle standing on the shelf, staring at it for a long time before speaking again.
"What happened that year happened very suddenly. By the time I reacted, Brother Lin was gone." Doji Benma's tone was very calm, but one could still vaguely hear a hint of uneasiness in his tone.
"There should have been some signs at the time, right? I remember my father said some very strange things to us, but I was too young at the time to understand what he meant."
Lin Tao put on his glasses again. He also noticed that the moment he took off his glasses, the eagle became a little restless, especially when Lin Tao's eyes met the eagle's eyes, he clearly sensed the fear in the eagle's eyes.
