Years turn into wind

Chapter 99: Difficult Feelings

In the evening, Ling Xiaotian and Cheng Yuwei returned to the Marshal's Mansion. Lanterns hung from the eaves swayed gently in the breeze, their warm light shone upon them, creating a tranquil atmosphere. Yet, despite their return from such a difficult journey, the two felt an indescribable warmth in their hearts.

After entering the mansion, Ling Xiaotian wanted to send Cheng Yuwei back to her room, but he noticed a subtle look of disappointment on her face. He gently took her hand and asked softly, "Yuwei, what's wrong? You seem a little worried after coming back."

Cheng Yuwei was slightly startled, then forced a smile, trying to hide her emotions: "Maybe I'm a little tired. I've experienced so many things in one day, and I always feel a little emotional."

Ling Xiaotian looked at her face, tenderness in his eyes. He didn't ask any more questions, but simply stayed by her side, as if the unspoken understanding could bring their hearts closer.

At this moment, the adjutant hurried over, a look of concern on his face. "Marshal, we just received intelligence that a batch of important military equipment has been hijacked. It might be the remnants of the Cang Lang group. They seem to be preparing to make a move."

Ling Xiaotian's eyes turned cold, he clenched his fists tightly, and frowned slightly: "They are desperate."

Cheng Yuwei was shocked when she heard this: "These remnants are simply reckless. If this batch of weapons falls into their hands, the consequences will be disastrous."

Ling Xiaotian gently held her hand and comforted her, "Don't worry, I will take care of it. Yuwei, go back to your room and rest first. Don't worry about these things."

Cheng Yuwei nodded, but a faint unease still lingered in her heart. She gazed at Ling Xiaotian's back, feeling an indescribable sense of dependence and affection, as if every time she saw him rushing about for war, she felt a pang of heartache.

Late at night, Cheng Yuwei tossed and turned, her mind constantly replaying the scene of fighting alongside Ling Xiaotian today. She knew she had long been deeply attracted to him, whether it was his calm and decisiveness or his gentle side in front of her, she couldn't help but smile at the thought and sighed softly.

At that moment, there was a sudden knock on the door. Cheng Yuwei put on her coat and opened the door, only to find Ling Xiaotian standing there. He looked gentle and hesitant, but he still whispered, "Yuwei, I saw the light in your room was still on, and I thought you might not be asleep either, so I came to check."

Cheng Yuwei was slightly startled, then looked up at him: "It's true that I can't sleep. I've been through too many things during the day." She paused, then suddenly asked hesitantly: "Xiaotian, why didn't you go to rest tonight?"

Ling Xiaotian shook his head slightly, a hint of a smile on his face. "Me too. I've been worried about the battle during the day. Maybe... it's because I wanted to see you."

The two of them stared at each other for a moment, a hint of warmth in the air. Ling Xiaotian gently raised his hand and slowly stroked her cheek. At that moment, his gaze was so gentle it could almost melt someone.

Cheng Yuwei felt her heartbeat quicken, and she lowered her head slightly, but couldn't help but move closer to him. Ling Xiaotian gently pulled her into his arms and whispered, "Yuwei, you've been my biggest support these days. Whenever I feel lost or tired, you're always by my side, giving me endless courage and warmth."

Cheng Yuwei snuggled in his arms, closed her eyes, and responded softly: "Xiaotian, me too. No matter what the future holds, I only wish to stay by your side and share all your difficulties with you."

Ling Xiaotian looked down at her, his heart surging with uncontrollable emotion. He gently lowered his head and placed a gentle kiss on her forehead: "Yuwei, thank you. Your existence is the greatest blessing in my life."

At that moment, the two of them embraced each other quietly, as if they were the only ones in the world. However, amidst the tenderness, Cheng Yuwei's intuition sensed a hint of danger. She suddenly remembered that the remnants of the Canglang were still lurking in the dark, and that their surroundings might not be completely safe.

Ling Xiaotian seemed to have noticed her worry, patted her shoulder gently, and said softly: "Don't worry, Yuwei, no matter what dangers lie ahead, I will protect you."

Cheng Yuwei nodded, still looking anxiously at the darkness in the distance. She knew that their road ahead would be even more bumpy, but because of this, she was even more determined.
