Years turn into wind

Chapter 88 Another conspiracy

The enemy was completely captured, and after several days of interrogation, Cheng Yuwei and Ling Xiaotian learned that the mastermind behind the enemy operation was a mysterious figure codenamed "Cang Lang." He was said to be extremely cruel and adept at using psychological warfare, having expanded the enemy's influence throughout the region in just a few years.

"Canglang... actually set his sights on us." Ling Xiaotian frowned thoughtfully.

Cheng Yuwei gently put down the report in her hand, her eyes deep: "Cang Lang's target is not only our Marshal's Mansion. He wants to use this area as a springboard to further expand his power. This kind of person must be eliminated as soon as possible, otherwise there will be endless troubles."

Ling Xiaotian held her hand and nodded, "You are right. We must not take such an enemy lightly. We must go all out to eliminate this potential threat."

A few days later, the Marshal's Mansion hosted a banquet, inviting prominent military and political figures from around the country. Ostensibly a peaceful exchange, the banquet was, in reality, a trap set by Ling Xiaotian to probe the enemy's movements. Cheng Yuwei was in charge of observing from the shadows, and she had trusted confidants monitor the movements inside and outside the venue.

After the banquet began, guests gathered in twos and threes, exchanging pleasantries. The atmosphere appeared harmonious, but undercurrents were stirring. Cheng Yuwei noticed a woman in elegant attire constantly approaching Ling Xiaotian, smiling and chatting with him, her deliberate familiarity evident in her demeanor. She frowned slightly, feeling a little unhappy.

Ling Xiaotian seemed to notice her gaze, smiled slightly, and made an excuse to get away. He walked to Cheng Yuwei and whispered, "Yuwei, are you jealous?"

Cheng Yuwei pretended to be calm and turned her head away, saying lightly: "I just want to remind you, don't forget the real purpose of today."

Ling Xiaotian couldn't help but chuckle. He leaned close to her ear and whispered, "Yuwei, don't worry. You are the only one in my heart."

Cheng Yuwei's cheeks flushed slightly, and she secretly rejoiced in her heart, but she still pretended to be calm and nodded. At this moment, her eyes swept to a corner. A man was looking at every corner of the banquet calmly, with a strange light flashing in his eyes.

She whispered to Ling Xiaotian, "There's something strange about that man. His eyes are always darting around, as if he's monitoring something."

Ling Xiaotian nodded, then signaled his men to quietly follow the man. Sure enough, they found that the man secretly took out a small note from his sleeve and quickly stuffed it into the vase on the table.

Cheng Yuwei whispered, "There's something fishy about him. We can use this clue to find out who's behind it."

A few days later, after careful planning, Cheng Yuwei and Ling Xiaotian devised a counter-espionage scheme. They pretended to have overlooked a location in the Grand Marshal's Mansion's defenses and deliberately leaked information, leading the enemy to attack from that direction. Ling Xiaotian and Cheng Yuwei secretly deployed heavy troops, waiting for the enemy to take the bait.

Finally, as night fell, the enemy's small group of troops infiltrated the designated location in the mansion as planned. As soon as they entered the mansion, dense gunfire rang out all around them, and the enemy was instantly trapped in the numerous ambushes set by Ling Xiaotian.

After a fierce battle, the enemy was nearly annihilated. The few who managed to escape fled, unaware that Cheng Yuwei had already ambushed them along their escape route. At her command, several elite guards blocked the enemy on the mountain path, capturing them with near-ease.

After the victory, Ling Xiaotian ordered the captives to be brought back to the palace for interrogation. Cheng Yuwei looked a little tired after the battle, but there was a hint of a relaxed smile on her face.

Ling Xiaotian looked at her, his heart warmed, and he whispered, "Yuwei, this battle was won thanks to your planning, which left the enemy helpless."

Cheng Yuwei smiled faintly and patted his shoulder gently: "Xiaotian, this is just the beginning. Canglang will never give up easily. We need to make preparations early."

Ling Xiaotian held her hand with a firm gaze and said gently, "Yuwei, as long as you are here, I have nothing to fear."

Cheng Yuwei lowered her head, her heart filled with tenderness. The two stood together, silently enjoying this moment of peace, as if all the troubles in the world no longer mattered.

However, at this moment, the sound of hurried footsteps suddenly shattered the silence. A guard hurried in, reporting nervously, "General, there's movement from the Canglang side again! They're gathering more elite troops, seemingly preparing for a large-scale raid!"

Ling Xiaotian and Cheng Yuwei looked at each other, and a cold light appeared in their eyes again.

"Canglang's ambition remains unabated. It seems that we must make a bigger counterattack." Ling Xiaotian said coldly, with a cold light flashing in his eyes.

Cheng Yuwei nodded. She understood that this time the battle would be more intense, but no matter how dangerous the road ahead was, she would fight side by side with Ling Xiaotian, fighting to the end for their homeland and their common beliefs.
