Years turn into wind

Chapter 81 Hidden Undercurrent

Time passed quietly, and Ling Xiaotian and Cheng Yuwei gradually found their balance in the Marshal's Mansion. Although calm on the surface, secretly, Ling Xiaotian's forces were already guarding against unknown enemies.

One morning, an unexpected visitor arrived at the mansion. Dressed in plain clothes and with a worried look on her face, she appeared to be in her early twenties, yet exuded a calm demeanor. She introduced herself as Su Miaoran, a physician who hoped to secure a position at Ling Xiaotian's mansion.

Cheng Yuwei initially thought nothing of it; after all, it was common for doctors to visit the Marshal's residence seeking opportunities. However, during her conversation with Su Miaoran, she vaguely sensed that this woman's intentions were not simple. Su Miaoran's eyes frequently darted around the residence, as if secretly searching for something, and her words even hinted at a hint of concern for Ling Xiaotian.

After Ling Xiaotian learned about this, he also became suspicious, but he did not rush to act. Instead, he secretly sent people to monitor Su Miaoran's actions.

A few days later, at a banquet, Su Miaoran reappeared and even sat directly next to Ling Xiaotian, chatting with him without any hesitation. Cheng Yuwei stood aside, a hint of displeasure flashing across her eyes, but she didn't show it directly.

Halfway through the banquet, Su Miaoran suddenly said, "Marshal Ling, I heard that you've been very busy lately. I have a prescription here that can help calm the mind. Why don't you try it?"

Ling Xiaotian smiled slightly and refused, "Thank you for your kindness, Miss Su. I'm in good health and there's no need to trouble you." As soon as he finished speaking, a hint of disappointment flashed across Su Miaoran's face, but she still nodded gently.

Cheng Yuwei observed all this, becoming increasingly wary. She keenly sensed that Su Miaoran's prescription might have ulterior motives, so she secretly took some herbs from the kitchen and began studying them. Sure enough, she discovered that several of the herbs in the prescription appeared harmless, but long-term use could cause restlessness and physical weakness.

A few days later, Ling Xiaotian's spies reported that Su Miaoran had been in frequent contact with a businessman in the city. This businessman had been acting suspiciously recently and seemed to be secretly connected with enemy forces.

After Cheng Yuwei learned about this, she immediately conspired with Ling Xiaotian, saying, "Xiaotian, Su Miaoran's actions are indeed inappropriate. She may have been ordered here to gradually control you, or even harm you."

Ling Xiaotian's eyes turned cold after hearing this, and he whispered, "In that case, why don't we set a trap and let her reveal herself?"

That night, Cheng Yuwei and Ling Xiaotian staged a fake illness. Ling Xiaotian feigned a sudden chest tightness at night. Upon hearing the news, Su Miaoran rushed to check on him, appearing concerned and offering a remedy. Cheng Yuwei watched coldly from the sidelines, but a flicker of smug delight crossed Su Miaoran's face, further confirming her intentions.

Ling Xiaotian pretended to drink the medicine in one gulp and then fell into a deep sleep. Su Miaoran secretly breathed a sigh of relief and quietly left. Cheng Yuwei and Ling Xiaotian exchanged a glance, then secretly followed Su Miaoran's whereabouts.

As the night deepened, Su Miaoran quickly walked to a hidden courtyard in the city and knocked on the door. When the door opened, a man stood at the doorway and whispered, "How's it going?"

Su Miaoran replied softly, "Ling Xiaotian has already taken the potion. As long as we continue as planned, he will become mentally disturbed within half a month. By then, we will be able to easily control his power."

Just as he finished speaking, a cold snort suddenly rang out in the courtyard. Ling Xiaotian and Cheng Yuwei slowly walked out of the darkness. Ling Xiaotian stared at Su Miaoran coldly, his eyes filled with chilling coldness: "So that's how it is. You really have ulterior motives."

Su Miaoran's face turned pale instantly, and he stepped back repeatedly, saying, "How did you know..."

Ling Xiaotian sneered, "Su Miaoran, you really underestimated the wisdom of Yu Wei and me." He waved his hand, and the soldiers who were ambushing in the dark immediately rushed out and captured Su Miaoran and the man.

Cheng Yuwei looked at everything before her and secretly breathed a sigh of relief. She turned to look at Ling Xiaotian and said with a smile, "Xiaotian, this time we have finally eliminated a major hidden danger."

Ling Xiaotian nodded, pulled her to his side, and gently patted her shoulder, his eyes full of tenderness and relief: "Yuwei, thank goodness you are by my side, otherwise I would probably be deceived by their conspiracy."

Cheng Yuwei looked at him, her heart filled with satisfaction and pride. The two smiled at each other, and in these turbulent years, their trust and reliance on each other were even stronger.

However, despite successfully exposing Su Miaoran's conspiracy, Ling Xiaotian and Cheng Yuwei both vaguely felt that the enemy's power might be far greater than they imagined, and this conspiracy was just the tip of the iceberg.
