Chapter 65: Storm is coming

On the way back home, Cheng Yuwei and Ling Xiaotian remained silent. Even this brief moment of peace couldn't mask the heaviness in their hearts. They knew that General Xie's collusion with foreign enemies would inevitably lead to even greater unrest.

After returning to the Marshal's Mansion, Ling Xiaotian quickly summoned several of his trusted generals for a secret meeting to discuss strategies to deal with General Xie. Cheng Yuwei, feeling somewhat uneasy, went to the laboratory alone to continue researching new defensive potions.

Late at night, the dim light in the lab illuminated Cheng Yuwei's serious profile. Her hands kept flipping through a book, her eyes filled with concentration and stubbornness. Ling Xiaotian quietly pushed the door open and walked in. Seeing her working so hard for him, he couldn't help but feel a trace of pity in his heart.

"Yuwei, you've been busy all day, it's time to rest." He said softly.

Cheng Yuwei looked up and saw him, forcing a smile: "There are still a few potions that haven't been completed. I won't be able to rest easy until General Xie's conspiracy is eliminated."

Ling Xiaotian walked forward, gently lifted her wrist, and said softly: "These things can be done slowly, don't force yourself too much."

Cheng Yuwei was slightly stunned. Feeling his concern, a trace of warmth rose in her heart. She said softly, "But I don't want you to bear all the pressure alone."

Hearing this, Ling Xiaotian's eyes flashed with tenderness. He gently embraced her in his arms and whispered, "You are already by my side, which is my greatest support. Don't worry, no matter how difficult the future is, we will face it together."

The two stood hugging each other, their hearts gradually drawing closer. It was as if at this moment, all the haze had been dispelled, and only the person in front of them was their most reliable support.

The next morning, Ling Xiaotian received a report from his guards that General Xie's troops had made unusual movements at the border, with a large force quietly gathering. Clearly, General Xie was planning to leverage the power of the enemy to launch a surprise attack and completely destroy Ling Xiaotian.

After learning about the situation, Cheng Yuwei frowned and analyzed, "General Xie's move is clearly intended to determine the outcome of this battle. He will definitely launch a sneak attack at night. We can plan a countermeasure in advance and do the opposite."

Ling Xiaotian nodded, thought for a moment, and said, "That's right. We can split our forces into two groups, set up a false situation, lead him to misjudge the location of my main force, and then ambush his army at the border."

Cheng Yuwei smiled lightly: "Let me participate this time. I will observe General Xie's actions in secret and report any emergencies in a timely manner."

Ling Xiaotian stared at her, his tone carrying a hint of reluctance: "Yuwei, this operation is fraught with danger. Are you sure you want to participate in person?"

Cheng Yuwei nodded firmly, her gaze unwavering: "Since I have chosen to fight alongside you, I will not back down easily. We will face this battle together."

The day of battle arrived as planned. Under the cover of night, Ling Xiaotian led his elite troops to ambush at the designated location, while Cheng Yuwei, disguised as an ordinary pharmacist, infiltrated the border villages and secretly monitored the movements of General Xie's troops.

Several hours passed before General Xie's army finally came into view. They split into two groups, attempting to attack Ling Xiaotian's main force from different directions. Cheng Yuwei quickly relayed the situation back to Ling Xiaotian, who smiled faintly upon hearing it and ordered his troops to proceed according to plan.

However, at this moment, Cheng Yuwei vaguely sensed something unusual. There seemed to be a large number of unfamiliar faces mixed in with General Xie's army. These people were sturdy and well-equipped, and clearly did not look like ordinary soldiers.

She quickly realized this might be the enemy's vanguard, and with a nervous ache, she immediately issued a warning signal. Upon receiving the signal, Ling Xiaotian immediately ordered the entire army to prepare for battle, while also dispatching an elite force to circle behind the enemy, awaiting an opportunity to strike.

General Xie clearly hadn't anticipated Ling Xiaotian's swift reaction, and from the moment of the clash, he was already at a disadvantage. At that moment, Ling Xiaotian's ambush troops swooped in from behind, surrounding General Xie's main force. The battle was fierce and swift, and within a quarter of an hour, the enemy forces were routed and retreating.

After the fighting subsided, Ling Xiaotian found Cheng Yuwei and was relieved to see that she was unharmed. He hugged her gently, his eyes full of concern: "Yuwei, are you okay?"

Cheng Yuwei smiled slightly and said mischievously: "Fortunately, I reacted quickly, otherwise those foreign enemies might have noticed it."

Ling Xiaotian caressed the ends of her hair lovingly and sighed softly, "You're always like this, daring to take risks yet making people worry."

Cheng Yuwei blushed slightly, looked up at him, and said softly: "As long as I can help you, I will not back down no matter how dangerous it is."

Ling Xiaotian's eyes were filled with tenderness, and he whispered, "Yuwei, with you by my side, I can face all challenges with confidence. Promise me that no matter what happens, we will never be separated."

Cheng Yuwei nodded gently, her eyes slightly moist: "I will always be with you until all the conspiracies are completely destroyed."

The two smiled at each other, their hearts growing closer. They knew the road ahead might still be difficult, but in this moment of warmth and sweetness, they found the resolve and courage to fight side by side.
