Years turn into wind

Chapter 46 Return to Tranquility

Ling Xiaotian smiled slightly, his eyes filled with fondness. "After all these years of military service, I've rarely had the chance to return to Jiangnan. If it weren't for you, I'd probably still be that cold-blooded warlord on the battlefield."

Cheng Yuwei reached out and held his hand, her tone gentle: "In fact, it was because I met you that I was able to find my home in this strange world. Perhaps, traveling to this era was originally destined by fate."

The two of them snuggled quietly, a silent understanding growing between them. In the evening, they arrived at a small town in the south of the Yangtze River. Ling Xiaotian had arranged a quiet and elegant courtyard for them, with a winding stream outside and a few plum trees inside, giving it a distinctly south-of-the-river charm.

Cheng Yuwei strolled in the courtyard, her face filled with satisfaction: "Xiaotian, this place is really beautiful."

Ling Xiaotian walked over to her, hugged her gently, and whispered, "This will be our home from now on. I want you to spend the rest of your life here, never to be troubled by war again."

Cheng Yuwei snuggled in his arms, tears welling up in her eyes: "Xiaotian, thank you. I never thought I could have such a life."

Ling Xiaotian gently stroked her shoulders: "Yuwei, from now on, I will make sure that every day of your life is as peaceful and happy as today."

After a few days, Cheng Yuwei gradually relaxed as she began to grow some medicinal herbs, develop new chemical agents, and opened a small pharmacy in the town to help the villagers treat their illnesses.

However, amidst the peaceful days, undercurrents still surged. Ling Xiaotian's influence was immense, and even though he had ceased to actively participate in politics, various factions still watched closely. Some hidden enemies began secretly sending people to spy on his whereabouts, hoping to take advantage of his seclusion to strike.

One morning, Cheng Yuwei was preparing herbs in her pharmacy when she noticed several strange men standing outside, staring at her with cold eyes. Startled, she knew something was amiss, but feigned composure as she continued her work. However, the men didn't leave; instead, they slowly approached.

At that moment, a familiar figure appeared on the street. It was Ling Xiaotian. He had already noticed what was happening. A cold smile appeared on his face, and a sharp gleam in his eyes. He slowly walked towards Cheng Yuwei, gently patted her shoulder, and whispered, "Don't worry, I'm here."

Cheng Yuwei felt relieved, turned to meet his gaze, and nodded slightly. She quickly hid in the pharmacy, while Ling Xiaotian faced the men and said coldly, "I think you've got the wrong person. It's best to leave as soon as possible."

One of the men snorted coldly and smiled slyly: "Ling Shuai, this time we are not here uninvited, but we are here to 'greet' you under orders."

Ling Xiaotian narrowed his eyes and said coldly, "Okay, then let me see what you can do."

As soon as he finished speaking, he moved like the wind and quickly subdued the men. The process was clean and neat, without any mercy. Seeing that the situation was not good, the men fled in panic.

Cheng Yuwei walked out of the pharmacy with a worried look on her face: "Xiaotian, how did these people find this place?"

Ling Xiaotian's expression was gloomy, and he whispered, "It seems that someone still doesn't want to let me go. Yuwei, don't worry, I will make sure they never dare to set foot here again."

Cheng Yuwei held his hand tightly and said with a firm look in her eyes: "Xiaotian, no matter what happens, I will be by your side."

Ling Xiaotian hugged her gently and whispered, "I won't let anyone hurt you. Yuwei, you will always be my only one in this life."

Their peaceful life was briefly interrupted, but Ling Xiaotian quickly took precautions, arranging secret guards to protect them. Peace returned to the small town in Jiangnan. However, this time the threat seemed to indicate a greater conspiracy brewing in the dark.

Cheng Yuwei and Ling Xiaotian embraced each other in the night, gazing up at the stars. Though they harbored worries, they gradually found peace in each other's company. Perhaps, a peaceful life had just begun, and their story would continue to unfold in this tranquility.
