Years turn into wind

Chapter 29 The Prelude to the Counterattack

Cheng Yuwei and Ling Xiaotian were plotting a counterattack in their study. Although rumors had already spread, as long as they could find the real manipulator behind the scenes, all the rumors would be refuted.

"We can't just sit and wait, they will definitely make the next move." Cheng Yuwei looked solemn. She had learned from Ling Xiaotian that the rumor was not only spreading in the Marshal's Mansion, but even many people in the army had begun to question her.

Ling Xiaotian nodded: "Lu Sheng will not give up easily. It seems that this time we must take the initiative to expose their conspiracy."

Cheng Yuwei pondered for a moment, and suddenly a gleam of light flashed in her eyes: "Since they want to sow discord, then we should give them a chance."

"What are you going to do?" Ling Xiaotian frowned. Although he trusted Cheng Yuwei's intelligence, rumors were spreading everywhere. If he was not careful, he would fall into the enemy's trap.

Cheng Yuwei smiled slightly, with a hint of confidence in her eyes: "We can lure the snake out of its hole and make those rumormongers think that their plan has succeeded. When they completely let their guard down, it will be the best time for us to strike back."

Ling Xiaotian was silent for a moment after hearing this, and finally nodded: "Okay, let's follow your plan. But you must be careful, I will never allow you to be in any danger."

Cheng Yuwei smiled gently: "I will protect myself."

The next day, Cheng Yuwei acted as planned, appearing somewhat anxious and uneasy in the mansion. She deliberately let some servants see her sitting alone in the garden, her face showing fatigue and a hint of sadness.

These servants were the spies sent by Lu Zhirou. They quickly reported Cheng Yuwei's abnormality to Lu Zhirou.

"Sure enough, she's already starting to feel incredibly upset." Lu Zhirou was very pleased after receiving the news. "It seems the rumors have taken effect. Now, it's time for me to make my appearance."

That night, Lu Zhirou took the initiative to come to the Marshal's Mansion, as if nothing had happened, and visited Cheng Yuwei in the name of "caring about a friend".

"Sister Wei, you seem a little tired recently. Is something wrong?" Lu Zhirou asked with pretended concern, but there was a hint of subtle temptation in her tone.

Cheng Yuwei glanced at her and said calmly, "Nothing, it's just that things have been a bit busy lately, and I'm a little upset."

"I've heard there have been some bad rumors circulating in the military recently..." Lu Zhirou said softly, a hint of feigned sympathy in her eyes. "But I believe these rumors are not worth paying attention to. Brother Xiaotian must have complete faith in you."

Cheng Yuwei smiled slightly, but her eyes were as sharp as a knife: "These rumors are indeed a headache, but I believe that one day the truth will come out."

Lu Zhirou obviously didn't expect Cheng Yuwei to be so calm. She felt a little confused, but she still smiled and said, "Yes, I also hope that these groundless accusations will end as soon as possible."

A few days later, Cheng Yuwei continued to feign distraught, even letting the soldiers in the mansion hear her "arguing" with Ling Xiaotian. She deliberately made the scene look real to ensure that the spies could pass the information to Lu Zhirou and the enemy.

Inside Ling Xiaotian's barracks, the soldiers began to discuss the matter. Some began to suspect Cheng Yuwei was indeed colluding with the enemy, and some even privately suggested that she be investigated.

All of this was under the control of Cheng Yuwei and Ling Xiaotian. They knew that the enemy would definitely take this opportunity to reveal their true intentions.

Sure enough, a few days later, the secret envoys sent by Lu Sheng finally took action. They planned to take advantage of the "discord" between Cheng Yuwei and Ling Xiaotian to try to contact Cheng Yuwei and try to persuade her to defect.

That night, Cheng Yuwei was working on a list of wartime supplies in her study when she heard a slight knock outside the window. She smiled slightly, knowing that the enemy had finally taken the bait.

She opened the window and saw a man in black standing outside with a mask on his face. He was obviously there to deliver a message.

"Ms. Cheng, I'm here on the orders of Marshal Lu. Marshal Lu appreciates you very much and is willing to provide you with more resources as long as you are willing..." The man in black said in a low voice, trying to persuade Cheng Yuwei.

Cheng Yuwei smiled coldly: "Oh? Marshal Lu actually thinks so highly of me?"

"Of course, Marshal Lu has always admired Miss Cheng's talent." The man in black continued, trying to impress her.

However, Cheng Yuwei did not waver. Instead, she took advantage of the man in black's carelessness and quickly subdued him with the dagger in her hand. She said coldly, "You are so bold! You dare to try to win me over."

The man in black was shocked and was about to resist when the door of the study was suddenly pushed open. Ling Xiaotian rushed in with several guards and took the secret envoy under control.

"Marshal Ling!" The man in black looked pale. He had never expected Ling Xiaotian to be here.

Ling Xiaotian looked at him coldly: "Why don't you reveal the name of the mastermind behind this?"

The emissary gritted his teeth, trying to remain silent, but Ling Xiaotian was prepared. He signaled his men to take the emissary away for a rigorous interrogation.

The secret envoy was quickly taken away, however, his appearance was enough to prove the conspiracy of Lu Zhirou and Lu Sheng.

That night, Ling Xiaotian gathered several of his confidants and sorted out the clues of the enemy spies one by one. Cheng Yuwei also participated in the work and discovered that Lu Sheng not only tried to shake the Marshal's Mansion through internal rumors, but also arranged several spy teams outside to sabotage at a critical moment.

"It seems their plan is not just to sow discord among us," Cheng Yuwei frowned. "They are also trying to disintegrate our army from within and use this opportunity to launch an attack."

Ling Xiaotian's eyes were icy. "We must strike back and destroy their spy network before they can fully deploy."

Cheng Yuwei nodded: "I can design another scene to lure them out completely."

The two men looked at each other for a moment, and both understood in their hearts that the true victory or failure of this battle would not only be decided on the battlefield, but also behind these invisible plots.

A few days later, while everything outside the Marshal's Mansion was calm, the undercurrent was growing increasingly turbulent. Cheng Yuwei and Ling Xiaotian's counterattack plan had quietly begun. They not only wanted to expose Lu Zhirou and Lu Sheng's conspiracy, but also to completely destroy the enemy's entire spy network.

The storm is coming, and those who have tried to destroy them will eventually meet their fate of destruction.

That night, Lu Zhirou received a secret letter, which hinted that Cheng Yuwei had been isolated and the plan was close to success. However, she did not realize that behind the letter, there was a bigger trap.

The curtain of war is about to be raised, and Cheng Yuwei and Ling Xiaotian have made all preparations. They must not only win on the battlefield, but also completely crush the enemy's confidence in this game of conspiracy and counterattack.
