Years turn into wind

Chapter 233 Life and Death in the Forest

Deep in the dense forest, the night's chill grew more intense. The group, soaked to the skin, struggled to move forward on the muddy ground. Cheng Yuwei led the way, her eyes fixed on the front, not missing any possible movement.

"Sister-in-law, have we gotten rid of them?" Zhang Qiang asked in a low voice with a hint of anticipation in his tone.

Cheng Yuwei looked back at him and shook her head: "We're not sure yet. The enemy won't give up so easily. We have to find a more secluded place and find a way to reunite after daybreak."

"But I don't know if there is a safer place ahead..." Li Chao dragged his steps, his voice revealing a bit of fatigue.

"Trust my sister-in-law." Zhang Qiang patted his shoulder. "If she can get us out of the mine, she can definitely get us safely to the rendezvous point."

Sudden pursuers

Just as he finished speaking, there was a sudden sound of chaotic footsteps in the woods, and a faint beam of light flickered in the distance. It was obvious that the enemy was approaching rapidly.

"Hurry and squat!" Cheng Yuwei shouted, and the three of them immediately hid in a bush and held their breath.

Several beams of light flashed between the tree trunks not far away, accompanied by the indistinct sound of soldiers' conversation.

"I said they would definitely run this way. Just now, a villager said he saw a figure in the water."

"Stop talking nonsense and find them! The commander said that it would be best to capture them alive, but if that's not possible, we have to leave the bodies behind."

Cheng Yuwei's eyes darkened as she listened to these words. She whispered to the two of them, "Once they spot us, don't hesitate and run in separate directions. I'll draw their fire while you take the opportunity to escape."

"Sister-in-law, I can't leave you!" Zhang Qiang retorted in a low voice, his face full of determination.

"Stop talking nonsense, this is an order!" Cheng Yuwei's tone was cold, and she had obviously made plans for the worst.

Forced to open fire

The enemy's beam gradually approached, only a dozen steps away from the bushes. Just as the beam was about to sweep over several people, Cheng Yuwei decisively fired, hitting the enemy in front with one shot, and then shouted: "Run!"

Although Zhang Qiang and Li Chao were reluctant to leave, they knew they couldn't hesitate at this moment. They quickly split up and dived into the dense forest, using the terrain for cover. Cheng Yuwei, on the other hand, deliberately ran in the other direction to attract the enemy's attention.

"Chase! She ran over there!" The enemy immediately changed direction and chased after Cheng Yuwei's back.

Cheng Yuwei changed her magazine while running, occasionally turning back to fire a shot, trying to delay the pursuers as much as possible. However, she knew that her physical strength was limited and she had to get rid of them as soon as possible, otherwise she would be surrounded sooner or later.

put all one's eggs in one basket

After running in the dense forest for a while, Cheng Yuwei suddenly found a steep cliff in front of her. The sound of rushing water came from under the cliff, and there was obviously a turbulent river.

She stopped and quickly looked around, finding no other escape routes. The pursuers behind her were approaching, their footsteps becoming clearer and clearer.

Cheng Yuwei took a deep breath, pointed the gun behind her, and prepared for a final fight.

"Put down your weapons! You have no way to escape!" The enemy walked out of the woods, and the leading officer pointed a gun at her and shouted loudly.

Cheng Yuwei sneered: "If you want to catch me, it depends on whether you have the ability to do so."

As soon as she finished speaking, she quickly opened fire, killing the two closest enemies. The others immediately returned fire, and the bullets whizzed through the air and hit the tree trunk next to her, splashing a cloud of wood chips.

Cheng Yuwei fought back while gradually retreating, finally retreating to the edge of the cliff. She looked back at the rolling river, a trace of determination flashed in her eyes.

"Sister-in-law, don't do anything stupid! We have surrounded you!" Seeing this, the enemy seemed to realize her intention and shouted loudly.

Cheng Yuwei glanced at them coldly, a mocking smile on her lips: "Then it depends on whether you have the life to catch me."

After saying that, she turned around and jumped off the cliff without hesitation.

life hanging by a thread

The icy cold water instantly engulfed Cheng Yuwei. She was swept into a whirlpool by the rapids, her ears filled with the roar of the water, and her entire body was like a helpless fallen leaf, tumbling in the waves.

Cheng Yuwei struggled hard, trying to float herself to the surface, but the turbulent current made it impossible for her to control the direction. Just as she was about to run out of energy, a thick branch was washed down from upstream and got stuck in the crevice of the rock next to her.

She grabbed the last bit of strength she had, grabbed hold of the branch, stuck her head out of the water, and tried hard to breathe.

脱险

Cheng Yuwei drifted along with the tree branch until she was finally washed by the current to a calmer section of the river. She climbed up the bank exhausted and lay on the muddy ground, gasping for breath, her face covered in mud and blood.

In the night sky, a bright moon hung quietly, casting its cool moonlight. Cheng Yuwei looked at the sky, a complex emotion flashing in her eyes: although she had escaped the disaster for the time being, what awaited her ahead was still an unknown and dangerous place.

She gritted her teeth, slowly sat up, wiped the water stains off her face, and her eyes became firm again.

"We can't stop. We must find Zhang Qiang and the others."

She dragged her exhausted body to her feet and walked step by step towards the depths of the forest...
