Years turn into wind

Chapter 232 The fog rises again

The next morning, a thin mist enveloped the courtyard of the Marshal's Mansion, and the air was slightly damp and cool. Song Qing walked along the corridor, holding a medical notebook in her hands, her expression focused. However, before she reached the study, she was stopped by a deep and familiar voice.

"Miss Song, you've been working so hard this morning. It's really admirable." The voice was teasing but polite.

She turned and saw Ye Linzhou, Ling Xiaotian's always unpredictable advisor. He chuckled as he approached her, his gaze darting towards her, a hint of inquiry in his glance.

"Mr. Ye?" Song Qing was a little surprised. "Are you looking for me for something, or are you just passing by?"

"Of course I'm looking for you." Ye Linzhou stopped in front of her, his eyes deep. "Ling Shuai's residence seems to be a bit restless lately. I'm worried that something might implicate you, so I came to remind you."

Song Qing frowned slightly, "Not very peaceful? What do you mean?"

"There are spies inside and enemy forces outside. Our enemies won't let Ling Shuai off easily." Ye Linzhou paused slightly, his tone meaningful. "And as the most special person around him, you are naturally one of his targets."

Song Qing's grip tightened slightly, a flicker of surprise in her eyes. She knew Ling Xiaotian was in a difficult situation, but she hadn't expected to be dragged into it.

"Thank you for the reminder." She replied calmly, "But I believe Xiaotian, he will definitely be able to solve these problems."

Ye Linzhou smiled, but remained silent. He turned to leave, but after a few steps, he looked back, his eyes filled with mixed emotions. "Miss Song, trust is important, but we can't ignore the dangers. I hope you'll be more careful."

Song Qing stood there, watching his back disappear, feeling a little uneasy.

Meanwhile, Ling Xiaotian was in his study discussing the latest battle developments with his deputy general. Spread out on the table was a detailed military intelligence report, which highlighted several hidden enemy routes.

"General Ling, the source of this intelligence is reliable, but we still need to be cautious. The enemy seems to have figured out the movements of some of our troops." The deputy general looked solemn.

Ling Xiaotian frowned slightly and spoke in a low voice, "It seems that there is a traitor still passing on information. In that case, let them have a taste of the consequences of our counter-espionage scheme."

He stood up, his eyes flashing, and walked to the window. The courtyard outside was still peaceful, but he knew in his heart that there were too many undercurrents hidden beneath this calm.

"Have the intelligence team prepare for the next round of false information." He ordered coldly, "I want to see who can resist taking action."

In the afternoon, Ling Xiaotian finally emerged from his study and ran into Song Qing returning from the pharmacy. He walked over, raised his hand and took the basket of herbs from her hand naturally, and said in an unquestionable tone, "Don't carry something this heavy by yourself again."

Song Qing smiled lightly, then deliberately teased: "When did you become so considerate? Did you do something wrong and want to make amends?"

Ling Xiaotian feigned anger upon hearing this, "I've been so considerate to you, yet you've been mistaken for being guilty? Hmm? Song Qing, you're becoming more and more lawless."

Song Qing chuckled, "Alright, alright, I was just teasing you. Actually, I think you're a little different today."

"Oh?" Ling Xiaotian raised an eyebrow. "What's the difference?"

"A little more tenderness." She looked at him seriously, with a hint of teasing and sincerity in her eyes.

Ling Xiaotian was speechless for a moment, his ears slightly reddening. He coughed lightly and changed the subject: "I have some free time tonight, I'd like to take you somewhere."

"Where are you going?" Song Qing looked curious.

"You'll know when you get there." He smiled mysteriously and said nothing more.

At night, Ling Xiaotian brought Song Qing to a pavilion on a hilltop north of the city. A cool breeze blew gently, and the lights of the distant town formed a galaxy of stars, a breathtaking sight.

"This is a place I often came to when I was a kid," Ling Xiaotian leaned on the railing, his eyes fixed on the distance, "Whenever I feel upset, I always come here to take a look."

Song Qing stood beside him, listening quietly. His tone was less sharp and more gentle with memories.

"Xiaotian," she suddenly spoke, her tone soft, "Are you upset now?"

He turned to look at her with a smile in his eyes: "With you here, I won't be bothered."

Song Qing was stunned for a moment, then smiled. "It seems my presence is having some effect."

The two smiled at each other, the atmosphere was warm and relaxed.

However, at this moment, Ling Xiaotian's alertness suddenly rose. He quickly turned around, protecting Song Qing, and whispered, "Someone is coming."

A few low footsteps were heard in the woods, breaking the tranquility of the night.
