The Rebirth of the God of Law: The Lord of the God Realm
Chapter 49: Ownership of Ancient Books
Ownership of ancient books
The magic circle's glow had returned to a calm, like the surface of the sea after a storm, but the tension in the air, like a bowstring about to snap, tightened even further. The ancient tome lay quietly at the center of the magic circle, its gentle glow like the alluring light of a hidden treasure, drawing fiery glances and a variety of thoughts from those around it.
Carl took a step forward, his gaze as firm as a rock, fixed on the tome, like a knight guarding a sacred relic. "Victor, the tome must be kept by me. We've gone through so much hardship and danger to break through the barriers of the world and prevent the spread of darkness, and the tome is the key. I cannot allow it to fall into the hands of someone with ulterior motives like you." His voice was steady and powerful, echoing through the ruins, every word filled with unquestionable determination.
Upon hearing this, Victor let out a shrill, manic laugh. It was like the cry of a night owl, and in the silent space, it was particularly eerie. "Karl, you are too naive. The power within the ancient tome was meant to be mine. With it, I could rule the world and become the supreme being. Stopping the forces of darkness is an excuse for the weak." He spoke as he scanned the tome with a greedy gaze, a glint of madness in his eyes.
"You are absolutely mad, Victor! If you use the ancient tome, the world will be plunged into endless darkness and suffering." Lucy shouted angrily, her wand trembling slightly, revealing her inner excitement. She looked at Carl, her eyes full of support, "Carl, we can't let him succeed."
"Haha, Lucy, what do you know, little girl? In this world where the strong are respected, strength is everything." Victor glanced at Lucy with disdain, and his men also laughed, and the laughter was full of sarcasm.
"Hmph, you guys just like to join in the fun." Tom frowned, his face full of anger, "Victor, don't think you can snatch the ancient books just because you have more people. We are not afraid of you." He gripped his wand tightly and took a fighting stance. The flame flickered faintly on the tip of his wand, as if it would erupt at any time.
"Hey, little Tom, you are still so impulsive. Do you want to taste my power again?" Victor looked at Tom provocatively, his eyes full of contempt.
"Come on, who's afraid of who!" Tom's eyes were wide open, and he was about to rush forward, but was stopped by Carl.
"Tom, don't be impulsive. Now is not the time to act rashly." Carl whispered, his eyes still fixed on Victor. "Victor, there's no need to start another war. The power of the ancient book isn't for personal gain; it concerns the fate of the entire world."
"Don't preach to me here, Carl. I only know that only when the power is in my hands can I control my own destiny instead of being bound by the rules of this world." Victor waved his wand, and a dark magic power surged around him. His men also prepared for battle, and the atmosphere became increasingly tense.
Just when the two sides were deadlocked, Jerry suddenly said, "I say, can't you just sit down and talk it out? You have to fight and kill like kids fighting over toys." His words eased the tense atmosphere a little, and some people couldn't help but laugh.
"Jerry, what nonsense are you talking about? There's nothing to talk about with someone like him." Lucy glared at Jerry, but the corners of her mouth rose slightly. Jerry's words relaxed her tense nerves a little.
"Hmph, talk? There's nothing to talk about between us unless Carl hands over the ancient book." Victor sneered.
"Victor, you should know that the ancient book cannot be given to you. We have seen what you have done. You will only use it to cause disaster." Carl said seriously.
"Disaster? That's a disaster in the eyes of the weak. To me, it's an opportunity to reshape the world," Victor retorted.
Silence fell upon both sides once again, with only the sounds of each other's breathing and the gentle hum of the magic circle mingling in the air. Suddenly, Victor moved, rushing towards the ancient book at an extremely fast speed, muttering something, and a black magic shield formed before him.
"He's trying to steal the ancient book, everyone be careful!" Carl shouted, and he quickly took action, rushing towards Victor like lightning. The other teammates also cast magic, ready to stop Victor.
"Stop them!" Victor shouted to his men, who immediately rushed towards Carl's teammates and a melee broke out again.
Carl and Victor met in mid-air, their wands colliding, sending out dazzling sparks of magic. Their eyes were filled with determination, and they both used all their strength.
"Victor, you won't succeed!" Carl roared, and his wand emitted a golden light, attacking Victor's shield.
"Hmph, let's give it a try." Victor increased his magic output, and the black shield became stronger. At the same time, he tried to bypass Carl and rush towards the ancient book.
Lucy and Tom fought Victor's men in a fierce battle. Lucy's frost magic froze the enemies, Tom's fire magic pushed them back, Jerry's wind magic disrupted the enemy's attacks, and the other teammates also contributed their own abilities. The entire ruins was once again filled with magical light and shouts.
"You guys are quite tenacious." One of Victor's men said viciously. He cast a dark magic, and countless black vines emerged from the ground and entangled Lucy and others.
"Lucy, be careful!" Tom shouted, he turned around and spewed out a flame, burning the vines close to Lucy to ashes.
"Thanks, Tom. We have to get rid of these guys quickly and help Carl." Lucy responded, waving the wand in her hand faster, shooting more ice cones at the enemy.
Back at the ancient tome, the battle between Carl and Victor reached a fever pitch. Carl noticed that Victor's magic seemed even stronger than before, and he knew he couldn't delay any longer. He concentrated, recalling the tome's descriptions of the powers of the ancient gods, seeking inspiration. Suddenly, a glint flashed in his eyes, and he cast a new spell. An ancient and mysterious rune emerged from the tip of his wand and flew towards Victor.
"What is this?" Victor was startled, feeling the rune's immense power. He tried to dodge, but the rune followed him like a shadow, eventually striking his shield. The rune's impact cracked the shield.
"Victor, give up, you can't defeat me." Carl said. He took advantage of the victory and cast magic again. Golden rays of light shot towards Victor like sharp arrows.
"I won't give up, Carl. The ancient book is mine!" Victor roared. He ignored his own injuries, forcibly broke through Carl's attack, and moved closer to the ancient book.
Just as Victor was about to touch the ancient book, Carl was extremely anxious and rushed towards Victor desperately. The two of them collided and rolled to the ground. They wrestled on the ground, each trying to break free from the other and snatch the ancient book.
"Let go, Carl!" Victor roared.
"Never!" Carl responded, his eyes filled with determination and anger.
As they clashed fiercely, the ancient tome's light grew even brighter, as if expressing disapproval of this desecration. The surrounding magic circle began to tremble slightly, as if affected by the emotions of the two men. This battle for the ownership of the ancient tome was no longer just a fight between two individuals; it concerned the future of the world. Yet, the outcome remained undetermined, like a flickering candle in the darkness, poised to go out at any moment.
