Chapter 42: Cracking the Guardian
Cracking the Guardian
In these tense ruins, Carl's gaze, like a hawk, fixed on the mysterious guardians' every move. The air around them seemed to freeze with tension, and every magical fluctuation was a warning before a storm.
"Don't panic, everyone. We will definitely find a way to break through these guys' defense." Carl's voice was steady and powerful, trying to comfort his slightly panicked teammates, but the fine beads of sweat on his forehead revealed his inner nervousness.
Tom came closer, stared at the guardian, and muttered softly: "These big guys are like clockwork toys, but they are very lethal." Although his words were a bit sarcastic, his trembling hands betrayed his relaxed appearance.
"Don't joke with your life, Tom. Now is not the time to talk nonsense." Lucy rolled her eyes at him, her eyes full of worry.
Carl ignored their bickering, observing the Guardians intently. Their coordinated movements, every attack, every movement, seemed to follow some mysterious rhythm. Carl knew there must be some kind of pattern behind it, and it was likely related to the magic circle.
"Look, their actions and attacks seem to be following the specific rules of the magic circle." Carl frowned, like an explorer groping for clues in the dark.
"Magic circle? Do you mean those complicated things we learned in college?" Jerry scratched his head, looking confused.
"Yes, I feel like these guardians are embedded in a huge magic circle, and their actions are driven by the flow of magic power in the magic circle." Carl explained, his eyes flashing with excitement, as if he had seen a glimmer of hope for a solution.
Carl frantically searched through the knowledge of magic circles he had learned at the academy. The patterns, symbols, and principles he had once known from textbooks now danced through his mind like puzzle pieces. He tried to match the Guardian's actions with the magic circles he had learned.
"Hey, Carl, if this is a magic circle, is there any way to unlock it like a magic lock?" Tom asked. He looked at Carl nervously, hoping to get some good news from him.
"In theory, yes, but it's much more complicated than unlocking an ordinary magic lock." Carl answered while quickly drawing some simple magic circle patterns on the ground, trying to restore the mysterious magic circle behind the guardian's actions.
After a long period of observation and reflection, Carl discovered that the Guardian's attack and movement patterns were similar to an ancient defensive magic circle. This magic circle guided the Guardian's actions by controlling the flow of magical elements, making their attacks and defenses impenetrable.
"I seem to have some idea, but it needs further verification." Carl muttered to himself. He stood up, his eyes fixed on the Guardian's next move.
As the Guardians launched their attacks again, Carl carefully observed the flow of magical elements around them. He discovered that whenever the Guardians prepared to charge, the surrounding earth elements would gather at their feet, providing them with powerful explosive power; and when they prepared to defend, the water elements would form a flowing shield in front of them.
"So that's how it is. They use the changes in the surrounding magical elements to adjust their actions." A hint of surprise flashed in Carl's eyes, like a person who has been groping in the dark for a long time and finally found the light switch.
"So how do we disrupt their rhythm?" Lucy asked, her wand tightly gripped in her hand, ready to deal with the Guardian's attack at any time.
"We can try to change the flow of magical elements around them and interfere with the connection between them and the magic circle." Carl replied, his eyes became firm, and he already had a preliminary plan in his mind.
Carl began to use his magic to influence the surrounding magical elements. He began with the earth element, casting a small interference spell. With a wave of his wand, a faint light shot towards the ground, and the earth element that had been orderly gathering at the Guardian's feet began to become chaotic.
"Look, it works!" Tom shouted excitedly, but his smile soon disappeared because the Guardian showed a brief moment of confusion but quickly returned to normal.
"This is just the beginning. We need more powerful interference." Carl was not discouraged. He knew that this was a complicated process, like disassembling a precision instrument, which required patience and skill.
He began to work with other teachers and students. Teacher Ivan specialized in earth magic, and together with Carl, he cast a large-scale earth interference spell. They both pointed their wands at the ground, muttering something. Powerful magic surged from their wands, causing the ground to violently shake, sending a swarm of earth elements flying around like enraged bees.
"Wow, it feels like we're causing a small earthquake," Jerry exclaimed, trying to maintain his balance while marveling at the spectacular magical spectacle.
Teachers Brown and Claire were responsible for using water magic to disrupt the flow of the water element. They waved their wands, and blue light shot into the air. The originally calm water element became turbulent, like a roaring wave, sweeping towards the guardian.
Disturbed by the chaotic magical elements, the guardians' movements began to slow down. Their attacks were no longer as sharp as before, and loopholes appeared in their defenses.
"Now is the time to concentrate our forces and attack the weak points in their defense!" Carl shouted, his voice clearly audible amid the noisy roar of magic.
Everyone unleashed their strongest attack magic, sending a riot of colourful light blasting towards the Guardian's defenses like dazzling fireworks. Flames, lightning, frost, and other elements intertwined to form a powerful force.
Although disturbed, the guardians still resisted stubbornly, their armor gleaming brightly under the magical attacks as they tried to withstand wave after wave of attacks.
"Don't relax, keep attacking!" Carl shouted, waving the wand in his hand faster, and the magic power was continuously output. His eyes were full of determination, and he must create a chance for the team to break through.
With everyone's concerted efforts, a large gap finally appeared in the Guardian's defense line.
"Go!" Tom shouted, rushing towards the gap first. The other students followed suit, and like arrows from a bow, they passed through the gap and ran towards the depths of the ruins.
Carl took one last look at the guardians who were still trying to restore order in the chaos, and said silently in his heart: "I hope we haven't destroyed the balance here, just to prevent a greater disaster." Then, he turned around and followed his teammates, heading towards the core area of the ruins. There might be more dangers waiting for them there, but they had no way to retreat and could only move forward bravely.
