Investigation

The faint light of dawn shone upon the ancient buildings of the academy, but it could not dispel the gloom that enveloped everyone's hearts. Carl and the teachers gathered in the academy's conference room. The walls were covered with maps and portraits that hinted at the students' disappearances. The atmosphere was as heavy as the air before a storm.

"Based on the dark magic runes and other clues we have discovered so far, all the evidence points to the abandoned magic mine near the academy." The dean's face was serious, his eyes fixed on the mark of the mine on the map.

"Dean, the magical fluctuations of those runes are highly consistent with what we detected at the scene of the disappearance. The missing students are very likely there." A teacher said with a worried look on his face.

Carl clenched his fists, a look of determination flashing in his eyes: "Then we can't wait any longer, we must go to the mine as soon as possible."

So, the investigation team, consisting of Carl and several teachers, headed towards the abandoned magic mine. Along the way, the surrounding scenery gradually became desolate. The once vibrant flowers, plants and trees seemed to have been drained of life, withering and dying, as if the traces of dark magic had been ravaged.

As they approached the mine, the air grew increasingly cold, a white mist forming with every breath. The mine's entrance lay hidden in a valley of jagged rocks. The surrounding rock was a strange black, as if eroded by dark magic for countless years.

"Everyone be careful, the dark magic fluctuations here are stronger than I thought." Carl warned in a low voice, and the tip of his wand was flashing with a vigilant light.

"Well, this kind of fluctuation indicates that there may be a powerful dark magic circle operating inside." Teacher A responded, his brow furrowed as he carefully observed the surrounding environment.

At the mine's entrance, the aura of dark magic was as tangible as a tangible object. It was a mixture of death, fear, and decay, making one's heart tighten. Carl could feel the magic stirring in the air, as if countless dark hands were trying to pull at their souls.

"This mine is not simple. I have a bad feeling." Carl said with a frown.

"That's right, we can't act rashly. Let's observe the surrounding situation first." The dean said, and he signaled everyone to stop.

Carl began to carefully examine the area surrounding the mine entrance. He discovered a remarkable ingenuity in the topography surrounding the mine. The arrangement of seemingly ordinary boulders and ravines bore a striking resemblance to the defensive layout he had witnessed at a dark magician's stronghold in his previous life. The placement of those boulders acted like guards of dark secrets; any intrusion would trigger the magical traps hidden within.

"Teacher, look at the layout of these boulders and ravines. This is a defensive formation, exactly the same as the layout of the dark magician's stronghold I saw in my previous life. We must be careful, there may be traps everywhere." Carl explained to everyone nervously.

"Carl, are you sure? Then we have to be more cautious." Teacher B said, raising his wand and casting a detection spell to try to find possible traps.

As the detection magic spread, subtle magical reactions appeared in the surrounding air. On one side of the mine entrance, faint runes appeared on the ground, gleaming a dark red light, like demonic eyes peering through the darkness.

"There is indeed a trap. These runes are trigger-sensitive. Once touched, they may trigger a powerful attack." Teacher A said, with a serious look in his eyes.

"We have to find a way to bypass these traps and find a safe way into the mine." said the dean, and he began to direct everyone to look for a breakthrough.

Carl slowly walked around the mine entrance, his eyes as sharp as an eagle's, not missing a single detail. Suddenly, he discovered a place with relatively weak magical fluctuations. There was a small open space between two boulders, and the dark magic there seemed less strong.

"Teacher, the magic fluctuations here are weaker. Maybe we can try from here." Carl said, pointing to the open space.

The teachers gathered around and, after careful observation, decided to attempt a breakthrough from this direction. Carl walked ahead, carefully casting spells to detect any hidden dangers ahead. With every step, he could feel the ground beneath his feet responding to the call of dark magic, as if danger could strike at any moment.

As they approached the mine's entrance, the fluctuations of dark magic grew more intense, assaulting their senses like surging ocean waves. From within the mine came waves of eerie whistling sounds, like the painful howlings of souls trapped in the darkness.

"It seems like something is waiting for us inside." Carl gripped his wand tightly, his heartbeat quickened involuntarily, and a sense of tension of an impending battle surged in his heart.

"No matter what's in there, we must rescue the missing students." The dean said firmly, his eyes full of determination and no intention of backing down.

Just as they were about to enter the mine, a powerful dark magical force suddenly surged from the cave, like a giant black beast opening its bloody maw. The magic transformed into black tentacles, sweeping towards them. These tentacles shimmered with a strange light, each imbued with a powerful dark force.

"Everyone, be careful!" Carl shouted. He quickly cast a spell, and a golden light shot out from his wand, colliding with the black tentacles. The light and darkness intertwined, emitting a violent roar that echoed through the valley like thunder.

The teachers also cast their magic spells, and lights of various colors shone at the entrance of the mine, engaging in a fierce battle with the dark magic. However, the dark tentacles seemed endless, surging in wave after wave, and becoming more and more powerful.

"This is not a solution. We have to find a way to rush into the mine and destroy the source of the dark magic." Teacher C shouted loudly. His forehead was covered with sweat, but the magic in his hands did not stop.

Carl watched the dark tentacles surge forward, a thought stirring in his mind. He recalled a method he'd used in his past life to deal with similar attacks—search for nodes of dark magic. He concentrated, trying to locate the dark tentacles' energy convergence point amidst the chaotic magical fluctuations.

After some effort, Carl discovered that the energy of these dark tentacles came from a point deep in the mine. That point was like the core of darkness, continuously releasing magic power.

"I found their energy core, deep in the mine. We concentrate our forces to attack the parts of the tentacles close to the mine, open a gap, and then rush in." Carl shouted.

The teachers followed Carl's advice and adjusted the direction of their magical attacks, concentrating their power on the dark tentacles near the mine. With their combined attack, the dark tentacles' defenses gave way slightly, creating a brief breach.

"Now, charge!" The dean gave an order, and Carl and the teachers took the opportunity to rush into the mine.

Once inside the mine, the darkness deepened, practically blinding. But Carl and his companions showed no fear. They cast illumination magic, illuminating their surroundings. The walls of the mine were engraved with various dark magic runes, emitting a dark red glow that illuminated the entire cave like a hellish hell.

"Everyone, don't disperse. The runes here may have other uses." Carl reminded, his eyes scanning the surroundings vigilantly.

In the passage of the mine, they found some tools and bones corroded by dark magic. These bones were scattered on the ground, and some were still in struggling postures, as if telling the horror stories that had happened here.

"These should be the people who came here before and were devoured by the dark magic. We must prevent this tragedy from happening again." Teacher D said solemnly.

As they continued to go deeper into the mine, they heard faint cries for help, echoing in the darkness, filled with despair and fear.

"It's the missing students! They are in front." Carl was delighted. He quickened his pace and ran towards the direction of the sound.

However, as they turned a corner, a group of black-robed figures appeared in front of them. They stood before a huge dark magic circle, a glowing light within. The missing students were trapped within it, their eyes hollow, as if part of their souls had been ripped away.

"You're finally here, walking into a trap." A man in black robe said with a sneer, his voice echoing in the mine, full of ridicule.

"It was you who took the students away. What was your purpose?" the dean asked angrily.

"Purpose? You will know soon, but you will have no chance to stop it." The man in black robe said, and waved the magic wand in his hand. The light of the dark magic circle became brighter, and an even more powerful dark magic power attacked Carl and the teachers.

Carl and the teachers immediately prepared for battle, knowing that a war was inevitable and that they must defeat the darkness, save the students, and uncover the truth behind this conspiracy. A thrilling magical battle unfolded in the dark mines, where the forces of light and darkness collided, deciding the fate of the school and its students.
