Chapter 26: Test in the Tower (2)
Test in the Tower (Part 2)
Carl and his teacher stood at the entrance to the second floor of the Magic Tower, their brows furrowed at the sight before them. This floor was filled with a faint mist, within which countless flickering lights and shadows could be vaguely seen, as if hiding countless mysterious entities.
"Be careful, Carl. This floor doesn't look easy." The teacher warned in a low voice, his eyes full of vigilance.
Carl nodded, gripping his wand tightly, and cautiously stepped onto the second floor. As they entered, the mist seemed disturbed, slowly shifting. Suddenly, a flash of light appeared, and a magical phantom appeared before them. This phantom bore a striking resemblance to Carl, as if it were his reflection in a mirror.
"What is this?" Carl asked in surprise.
"They appear to be magical phantoms. They will mimic your magical attacks and counterattack with greater force. This will be a difficult battle." The teacher replied, his eyes fixed on the phantoms, his wand in his hand ready to deal with any possible attacks.
The phantom didn't give them much time to think; it immediately launched its attack. A burst of flame erupted from its wand, sweeping towards Carl and the teacher. Carl quickly cast water elemental magic, creating a wall of water to block the flames. But the phantom's attack didn't stop. It immediately followed with an even more powerful fire spell, even hotter and more powerful than the previous one.
"What a powerful force!" Carl marveled inwardly. He knew he couldn't let his guard down. He began to think of a countermeasure. He observed the phantom's attack pattern, trying to find its weakness.
"Karl, we have to be careful. These phantoms are very powerful and we can't fight them head-on." said the teacher, casting a defensive magic to add a layer of protection for them.
Carl dodged the phantom's attacks while carefully observing its movements. He discovered that there was a short delay when the phantom imitated his magic attacks. Although this delay was very short, it could be a key breakthrough point for Carl.
"Teacher, I found that the phantom has a short delay when imitating magic. We can use this weakness to attack it." Carl said excitedly.
"Good idea, Carl. We should seize this opportunity." The teacher replied. He also noticed the weakness of the phantom.
Carl began deliberately casting simple magical attacks to lure the phantom into imitating him. When the phantom showed any delay, he immediately cast more powerful magic, attacking its weak points. The phantom was struck by Carl's attack, and its body trembled slightly, but it was not defeated. Instead, it attacked even more frantically.
"It seems that this phantom is very tenacious. We need to continue attacking its weaknesses." Carl said. He was not intimidated by the phantom's counterattack, but instead strengthened his confidence.
They continued to fight the phantom, constantly looking for opportunities to attack its weaknesses. During the battle, Carl discovered that the phantom's magic fluctuations contained a special frequency, which was very weak and would have been overlooked if he had not had a keen sense of magic.
"Teacher, there is a special frequency in the magic fluctuations of this phantom. I seem to have seen it somewhere." Carl said with a frown.
"Special frequency? Are you saying you've encountered similar magical fluctuations before?" the teacher asked.
"Yes, this frequency is the same as the frequency I encountered in my previous life when I was studying an ancient magic ritual. This made me realize that the test here may be closely related to ancient magic." Carl answered, with a strong curiosity in his heart.
"Ancient magic? This is even more complicated. We need to be more careful." said the teacher, who also realized the seriousness of the problem.
Carl carefully sensed the phantom's magical fluctuations, trying to find more clues about ancient magic. He discovered that this special frequency seemed to be related to the source of the phantom's power. If he could destroy this frequency, perhaps he could defeat the phantom.
"Teacher, I think we can try to destroy this special frequency, maybe we can defeat the phantom." Carl said.
"Do you have any ideas?" the teacher asked.
"I think we can use a special magic to interfere with this frequency, so that the phantom will lose its source of power." Carl replied, and he began to think about what kind of magic to use to interfere with this frequency.
After some thought, Carl decided to cast a spell he'd learned from ancient texts—Magic Interference. This spell could disrupt the surrounding magical fluctuations, disrupting specific frequencies. He concentrated, channeled his magic power into his wand, and prepared to cast the spell.
"Are you ready, Carl? We have to succeed in one fell swoop." The teacher said, and he cast a defensive magic for Carl to protect him from being attacked by phantoms while casting magic.
Carl nodded, took a deep breath, and chanted a spell. A faint light emanated from the tip of the wand, shooting towards the phantom. When the light touched the phantom, the phantom's magical fluctuations began to become chaotic, and the unique frequency was also disrupted.
The phantom roared in pain, and its body began to blur. Carl knew their attack was working, and he continued to increase his magic output to make the magic interference more effective.
With Carl's efforts, the power of the phantom gradually weakened and eventually disappeared.
"We did it, Carl," the teacher said excitedly.
"Yes, teacher. But the test here is not over yet, we have to keep moving forward." Carl replied, his eyes full of anticipation.
They continued to explore the second floor and discovered many other magical phantoms. These phantoms had different strengths, but all had the same characteristics - they would imitate their magical attacks and counterattack with greater force.
"It seems we have to defeat these phantoms one by one before we can enter the next level." Carl said, he was ready for battle.
They began to challenge these phantoms one by one, taking advantage of the phantoms' weaknesses and the interference of special frequencies to defeat them one by one. In the process of fighting, Carl continued to learn and grow, and his understanding and use of magic became more proficient.
"Karl, you're making rapid progress. Your control over magic is getting stronger and stronger." The teacher praised. He was filled with satisfaction as he watched Karl's performance in the battle.
"Thank you for the compliment, teacher. I still have a lot to learn." Carl said modestly. He knew that his growth was inseparable from the guidance and help of his teachers.
After a hard-fought battle, they finally defeated all the magical phantoms. The moment the last phantom vanished, a beam of light rose from the ground, illuminating the entire second floor. A passage leading to the third floor appeared within the light.
"We can move on to the next level." Carl said excitedly.
"Well, well done, Carl. But we can't let our guard down, the next test may be even more difficult." said the teacher, and he and Carl walked into the passage together and headed towards the next level of the magic tower.
In the passage, Carl and the teacher felt a powerful magical fluctuation. This magical fluctuation was more mysterious and powerful than the phantom they encountered on the second floor, as if warning them of the danger ahead.
"The fluctuations of magic power here are very unusual. We must be careful." The teacher said, his eyes full of vigilance.
Carl nodded, gripping his wand tightly, ready for a new challenge. As they advanced, a massive stone door appeared at the end of the passage. Engraved with mysterious runes, it exuded powerful magical power.
“There must be a more powerful test hidden behind this door.” Carl said, his heart filled with anticipation and nervousness.
"We have to be prepared, Carl. We don't know what's waiting for us behind this door." said the teacher. He and Carl stood in front of the stone door, ready to open this mysterious door.
