The Legend of Cinderella's Counterattack
Chapter 98: Continued Depression
"Lolo, what are you looking at?" Lu Yuxuan's tone was filled with anxiety and confusion. I hurriedly turned off the video, but it was too late. "You...why are you back?" I concealed my inner panic and tried to change the subject. "I saw your message as soon as I got off the plane. You said it was urgent. What happened?" Lu Yuxuan's expression became serious. He walked over to me and gently held my hand. "Tell me, what happened?"
I looked into his deep eyes, feeling a mixture of emotions. How could I tell him that his father, the one he had always admired, was likely being manipulated? I took a deep breath and decided to keep the USB flash drive secret for now. "Nothing, just... the company is having some trouble," I said, avoiding the main point.
"It's a company matter? Is it about the design?" Lu Yuxuan clearly didn't believe me. He pressed on. "No, it's more complicated than the design." I shook my head, trying to look calm. "Don't worry, I'll take care of it."
"Lolo, look into my eyes and tell me you didn't lie to me?" Lawrence Lu stared at me intently, as if to see through my heart. I felt a little guilty when he looked at me, so I could only lower my head, not daring to look him in the eye.
“Okay, if you don’t tell me, I won’t ask.” Lawrence Lu sighed and held me in his arms, “But you have to remember, no matter what happens, I will be by your side.”
I leaned on his chest, listening to his strong heartbeat, and an unprecedented sense of security surrounded me.
That night, I couldn't sleep. Sophie's letter, Lu Zhenhua's video—everything was like a fog, enveloping me tightly. I tossed and turned, unable to fall asleep. Finally, I made a decision—I would accept Sophie's request, even if it meant taking a huge risk. I had to protect Lu Yuxuan and his family.
The next morning, I followed Sophie's instructions and transferred the money to a designated account. Afterward, I was filled with anxiety and fear. I had no idea what Sophie was trying to do, nor did I know if what I was doing was right, but I had no way out.
Over the next few days, I followed Sophie's instructions and embarked on a series of dangerous missions. Like a chess piece, I was manipulated by her, teetering on the brink of danger. Every day was filled with fear, exhaustion, but I dared not stop, knowing that behind me lay Lawrence Lu and his family, and I couldn't let them get hurt.
Chenxi seemed to notice something was wrong with me. She looked at me several times, wanting to say something but stopping herself, her clear eyes filled with worry. "Sister Luoluo, have you been worried about something lately? You look so sad. Is it because the company hasn't resolved the issue yet?"
I forced a smile and patted her head. "It's okay. I've just been busy with work lately and haven't been able to rest well. Don't worry about me. Just focus on preparing for your graduation project."
The housekeeper noticed something was amiss with me and tried to ask about it several times, but I kept brushing them off with various excuses. I didn't want to worry them, and I certainly didn't want to drag them into this dangerous situation.
However, paper cannot cover the fire after all.
That day, I followed Sophie's instructions and went to an abandoned warehouse to pick up a package. The warehouse was dark and damp, filled with a rotten smell that made me feel nauseous. I endured the discomfort and found the package Sophie mentioned.
Just as I was about to leave, the warehouse door was suddenly locked from the outside. Then, a group of men in black emerged from the darkness and surrounded me.
My heart instantly leaped into my throat, and a chill shot up from my feet to my head. I instinctively tried to escape, but it was too late. The man in black was closing in, leaving me with nowhere to retreat. I could only clutch the package tightly in my hands and close my eyes in despair.
"Who are you? What do you want to do?" I asked calmly, but my trembling voice revealed my fear.
The man in black didn't say anything, just sneered and approached me.
Just when I thought I was going to be caught, the door of the warehouse was suddenly kicked open. The dazzling sunlight shone in, and I saw a familiar figure.
"Let her go!" Lu Yuxuan's voice echoed like thunder in the empty warehouse. He rushed into the warehouse like a flash of lightning, and with three punches and two kicks, he knocked the men in black to the ground. I had never seen his eyes so fierce before. He was like an enraged lion, emitting a dangerous aura. He pulled me into his arms and held me tightly. I could feel his rapid breathing and the pounding of his heart.
"Are you okay? Are you hurt?" He held my face and checked my condition anxiously, his tone full of worry and self-blame.
I shook my head, but tears kept flowing. The fear, helplessness, and exhaustion I'd felt during this period all flooded back to me at that moment.
"Who are those people? Why did they arrest you?" He gently wiped away my tears and asked softly.
I took a deep breath and finally made up my mind to tell him everything. From the moment I received that mysterious email, to Sophie's threats, to the time I took risks to complete the mission... I told him everything without reservation.
After listening to my story, his face became extremely solemn, his brows were furrowed, and a trace of pain and anger flashed in his eyes.
"Silly girl, why are you doing this? Do you know how dangerous it is?" He hugged me tightly in his arms, his tone full of heartache and self-blame.
"I can't let you and your family get hurt." I raised my head, looked into his eyes, and said firmly, "You are my man. I will definitely protect you and your family."
He looked at me deeply, his eyes filled with emotion and love. He bent down and kissed my forehead, his voice low and firm, "Thank you, Luoluo. I love you."
We hugged each other tightly, feeling each other's warmth and love. I knew that no matter how difficult and dangerous the future might be, we would face it together and never be apart.
However, our sweet moments were always short-lived. Sophie seemed to have noticed our actions and began to intensify her pursuit of us. We were like two frightened birds, hiding everywhere and living a displaced life.
We fled all the way to an abandoned factory on the outskirts of the city and hid in the dark factory building. Outside, the wind howled like a beast, and my heart was as precarious as the wind and rain. Lu Yuxuan held my hand tightly, his eyes firm, giving me strength.
"Don't be afraid, Lolo, we will be fine." He comforted me, his tone gentle but tired.
I nodded, fighting back tears, and pulled out my phone. Ever since I received that email, I've kept all emails with "S" top secret, so they can only be opened in a specific way.
"Yuxuan, I want you to see this." I handed him the phone. On the screen was the latest instructions from "S", asking us to go to a cargo ship at the north city dock, and he would arrange someone to pick us up and leave.
Lu Yuxuan's brows were furrowed, and his fingers swiped across the screen quickly, browsing the previous conversation between me and "S". Suddenly, he stopped, his eyes fixed on a photo. It was an old photo, and the figures in the photo were blurry, but you could vaguely make out a young couple.
"What's wrong?" I followed his gaze and felt a little uneasy.
Lawrence Lu didn’t answer. He enlarged the photo and carefully identified the figure in the photo. His expression became more and more solemn, and his breathing became rapid.
"What's wrong? Do you know the person in the photo?" I asked anxiously.
He took a deep breath and slowly raised his head, his eyes filled with shock and disbelief. "If I'm not mistaken, the man in the photo is my father!"
My heart sank, a chill running from my feet to my head. Wasn't Lawrence Lu's father already dead? How could he be in "S's" photo? Could it be...?
I didn't dare think about it anymore. An inexplicable fear enveloped me. I felt like I had fallen into a huge whirlpool, being pulled by an invisible force and unable to escape.
Who is "S" really? Why does he want to help us? What is his purpose?
