The Legend of Cinderella's Counterattack
Chapter 49 Designed
"What the hell? Save me?" I muttered to myself, searching my mind for any fragment of memory related to this sentence, but found nothing. At this moment, a warm hand gently grasped my shoulder. "What's wrong, Luo Luo? Who's calling?" Lu Yuxuan's concerned voice pulled me out of my chaotic thoughts. I hurriedly concealed the uneasiness on my face and forced a smile: "Nothing, just a harassing call."
Lu Yuxuan obviously noticed something strange about me and frowned slightly: "A harassing call? Why do you look so ugly?" I took a deep breath and said casually: "It's really nothing. It might be someone selling loans. There are too many calls like this now." After that, I threw the phone aside as if nothing had happened.
However, my heart was far from as calm as it appeared. The contents of that mysterious phone call were like a thorn, piercing deep into my heart and making me restless. My intuition told me that this matter was definitely not that simple. That mysterious person seemed to know everything about me, even the secret of my time travel!
What terrified me even more was when they mentioned my child. Could it be that they were trying to use my child to threaten me? The thought of my child being harmed felt like an invisible hand gripping my heart, making it almost impossible to breathe. No, I absolutely could not let my child be harmed! I was determined to get to the bottom of this matter and not let those hiding in the shadows succeed!
I raised my head and looked out the window with a determined gaze, just in time to meet Lawrence Lu's worried eyes. I took a deep breath, trying to look calmer, and put on a reassuring smile: "Yuxuan, I'm fine, it's really just a harassing call. Don't worry, I won't take it to heart."
I suppressed my inner fear and anxiety, pretended to be calm, and continued to chat and laugh with Lawrence Lu. But my eyes never left my phone, for fear of missing any calls.
The next day, the unfamiliar number appeared on my phone screen again. I took a deep breath and answered the call. "What have you thought about it?" The voice on the other end of the phone was low and hoarse, with a hint of threat that was hard to conceal. "I have done what you said," I replied calmly, "I will leave Lawrence Lu as soon as possible."
“Very good,” the mysterious man sneered, “Remember, you only have three days. If you haven’t left Lawrence Lu within three days, don’t blame me for being rude to you!”
After hanging up the phone, I immediately began investigating the mysterious person's identity. My first thoughts turned to my stepmother and stepsister; they held a grudge against me and were likely privy to my time travel secrets. I snuck into my stepmother's room, searching for any clues that might connect me to the mysterious person. My efforts paid off, and I finally found a phone card at the bottom of a pile of documents. The card number was exactly the number the mysterious person had called me!
I felt a chill run down my spine. It seemed my suspicions were correct. This mysterious person was indeed related to my stepmother! But why did they do this? Was it just to drive me away?
I continued searching, hoping to find more clues. Then, a photo fell out of the document bag. I picked it up. It showed three people: my stepmother, my stepsister, and a strange man. The man looked menacing, with a hideous scar across his face. He clearly wasn't a good person. My intuition told me he was connected to the mysterious man! I immediately took a photo with my phone, put everything back where it belonged, and quietly left my stepmother's room.
After returning to my room, I immediately began to research the identity of the man in the photo. Using facial recognition software, I quickly found his identity: Zhao Hu, a professional killer who had been imprisoned for ten years for intentional homicide and had been released three months earlier.
My heart sank. It looked like my stepmother and stepsister were serious this time! They'd hired a professional killer to kill me. What on earth were they planning?
I know I should tell Lawrence Lu the truth and let him face it with me, but I can't. I can't drag him into this dangerous situation. Zhao Hu is a professional killer. If Lawrence Lu knew that my life was threatened, he would definitely protect me at all costs. At that time, he would also become Zhao Hu's target.
I can't take any risks. I have to protect him, even if it means he misunderstands me, even if it means he hates me, I have to keep him safe.
"Lolo, what's wrong with you recently? Are you too tired because of the company's affairs?" Lawrence Lu's gentle voice pulled me back from my thoughts, his deep eyes full of worry.
"No, nothing, I just..." I avoided his gaze, not daring to look him in the eye. "I've just been a little stressed out at work lately. I just need a break."
"Really? I don't want you to hide anything from me." Lawrence Lu gently held me in his arms. His arms were as warm and safe as ever, but at this moment, my heart was filled with anxiety and fear.
"Really, I'm fine, you don't have to worry about me." I forced a smile, trying hard to hide my inner panic.
Lawrence Lu didn't ask any more questions, but the look in his eyes was full of suspicion. I knew I couldn't just sit there and wait for death. I had to find a solution as soon as possible.
I decided to ask my best friend, fashion designer Sophie, for help. Sophie is a quirky girl, resourceful, and well-connected. Maybe she could help me find a way to deal with Zhao Hu.
I told Sophie the whole story. After listening to my story, Sophie angrily slammed the table and said, "This Zhao Hu is too arrogant! He actually dared to threaten my good sister. I will never let him go!"
"Sophie, you must help me. I really don't know what to do now." I held Sophie's hand tightly, as if I had grabbed a life-saving straw.
"Don't worry, Luoluo, I will definitely help you." Sophie patted my hand and comforted me, "I know a private detective who is very capable. I asked him to help investigate this Zhao Hu and find out what he is up to."
With Sophie's help, we quickly found out Zhao Hu's background and confirmed my guess that Zhao Hu was indeed instructed by my stepmother to make me leave Lu Yuxuan.
"I knew it was them!" I said gritting my teeth. My stepmother and stepsister are really haunting me. I will never let them succeed!
I held my phone, and the screen showed Zhao Hu's information and evidence of his contact with his stepmother. I took a deep breath and was about to call Lawrence Lu when there was a sudden knock on the door.
"Who is it?" I asked vigilantly, an ominous premonition coming over me.
"Lolo, it's me, your stepmother. I have something to talk to you about." The stepmother's hypocritical voice came from outside the door.
My heart tightened. Did they already know I'd found out the truth? I quickly hid my phone in the sofa cushions, took a deep breath, and opened the door.
"Lolo, why do you look so unhappy? Are you not feeling well?" my stepmother asked with concern, but I saw a hint of subtle pride deep in her eyes.
"I'm fine. What do you want to talk to me about?" I asked coldly, trying hard to suppress my inner anger.
"It's like this, your sister has been in a bad mood lately and wants you to accompany her out to relax." My stepmother said, grabbing my hand and dragging me out forcefully.
"I won't go! I still have work to do!" I struggled hard, but my strength was no match for my tall and strong stepmother.
"It's none of your business!" my stepmother said viciously, covering my mouth with one hand and dragging me into a van parked at the door.
I struggled desperately, but there were two other people in the car, my stepsister and a strange man. They held me down together, tied my hands and feet with ropes, and sealed my mouth with tape.
"What are you doing! Let me go!" I widened my eyes in horror, but couldn't make any sound.
"Hmph, you'll know when you get there." The stepsister smiled coldly, with a vicious gleam in her eyes.
The van sped along until it finally stopped at the gate of an abandoned factory. I was roughly dragged out of the car and thrown onto the cold, wet ground.
I looked around in horror. It was a dark and eerie place, and the air was filled with the smell of decay. My heart sank. I knew I had truly fallen into their clutches this time, and what awaited me was an unknown and horrific fate...
