Traveling through time, I'm making pancakes in Warhammer
Chapter 53 Negotiation
Three days later.
Howard and Arabelle were picked up by people sent by Char and taken into a car. The car was very ordinary, neither reinforced nor sealed. Howard sitting inside could clearly see where he was being taken. If he had a better memory, it would not be impossible for him to go back the same way based on his memory.
"Do you know why you had to blindfold yourself when you went to see Char, but you don't have to this time?" Arabelle asked, leaning back in her chair with her arms folded as Howard looked out the window.
Howard retracted his gaze, thought for a moment, and answered seriously, "Maybe if this conversation had gone badly, I wouldn't have had the chance to tell others what I saw."
"You guy." Arabelle smiled and stopped talking.
Soon the two were brought to their destination, the huge clock tower in the center of Yoton. They followed the guide and began to climb the tower.
While climbing the tower, Howard noticed that there were people patrolling and guarding every corner and every shadow, and the people on guard were also on guard against each other.
Finally they arrived at the top of the clock tower, which was the clock room. The heavy alloy door slowly opened inward, revealing a huge empty room behind it.
The three sides of the room are sealed walls, and the wall facing the entrance has been replaced with a huge translucent clock chassis. Through this chassis, you can see the shadow of the huge pointer outside the chassis.
The side of the clock room near the chassis is filled with machinery. Steam flows in brass pipes, providing power to the machinery. Countless gears mesh with each other, driving the clock to move accurately. The second hand keeps jumping and making a ticking sound.
By this time, there were eight people in the clock room. Besides Char, there were seven others Howard hadn't seen before, presumably the other leaders. Howard saw that some had transformed themselves into Doctor Octopus, others looked like a mountain of flesh, and still others weren't there in person, only sending a holographic projection. There was even a Bean Sprout and a Chicken Thief in there. In short, this group of people could be perfectly summed up in one word: monsters and demons.
These people are very far away from each other, and it can be seen that they are intentionally maintaining a safe distance.
"Introduce me," Char said, noting Howard and Arabel. He stood up and extended his hand to Howard, addressing the other leaders. "Mr. Howard, I'm from Cybertron. I'm a chef. It's his cooking that's taken over half of the psychotropic drug market."
Howard was a little surprised to hear such an introduction, because he was sure that he had never told Char that he was from Cybertron. If Arabelle did not reveal her origins to Char, it meant that Char had at least found out about the Blood Angels in his investigation of his origins.
He suddenly felt a little unsure. This big guy's power was even greater than he thought. If he continued to investigate, he might really find out something.
After briefly introducing Howard, Char then introduced the other leaders to Howard. "These are the other seven leaders of Middle Nest. Their spheres of influence cover water, air, taxation, logistics, electricity, and corpse recycling. In short, if you live in Middle Nest, you're bound to interact with one or more of them."
Finally, Char reached out his hand to Arabelle and said, "Arabelle, everyone knows her. Some of you have friendships with her, and some of you have grudges against her, but this is a ceasefire zone, so I hope everyone can abide by the rules."
After Char finished speaking, no one expressed any objection, which meant that everyone agreed.
Then Char signaled to Howard with his eyes that it was his turn.
Howard cleared his throat, stepped forward, and said, "I know my pancakes have taken away your customers, and I'm sorry for that, so I plan to cooperate with you."
Howard's words did not receive any response, so he continued: "I will provide each of you with twenty pancakes every day."
As soon as these words came out, a burst of sneers rang out in the clock room. Judging from the expressions of Arabelle and Char, Howard had obviously said something wrong. Arabelle even began to slowly stretch her hand back. She had a folding knife hidden behind her back. If the situation got out of control, she would try to use the folding knife to subdue a leader as a hostage, and then take Howard to fight.
"Mr. Howard, your Jianbing Guozi may be miraculous, but this offer alone isn't enough to convince us." Char intervened, explaining, "Central Nest is already saturated with psychotropic drugs. Even if you could provide 10,000 Jianbing Guozi daily, you'd only squeeze the existing market share. There's not much profit to be made, and yet you've wasted our entire day on such a trivial matter."
Howard said calmly, "I didn't say I wanted to sell the pancakes to the people in Zhongchao."
"Before we discuss the specific plan, I think I need to demonstrate the effectiveness of my product." Howard held up his backpack and said, "Inside this bag are two Jianbing Guozi (Snack Pancakes). I need you to find someone addicted to psychotropic drugs to test it on. Ideally, someone with complete brain damage and no sensory function."
The leaders looked at each other, and finally it was Char who ordered his men to carry out the order.
Soon they brought a man who was just a skeleton wrapped in skin. He was even thinner than Howard when he was undergoing the gluttony test in the Palace of Slaanesh. This man could not even walk by himself and needed someone to carry him over.
This man was blind and had no sanity. Saliva was dripping from the corners of his mouth and he could only make humming sounds.
This kind of person is the lowest level existence in the hive ecology. Even if a normal person is desperate, his body itself has value. Useful organs can be traded, and meat of lower value can be eaten or used to cultivate mushrooms.
But for people who take drugs to this extent, their body tissues have long been diseased and necrotic, and have lost their value for recycling. The mushrooms grown with them will be rich in toxins, and their fate is to die quietly and be disposed of harmlessly.
"Before we begin, you can check whether this person's situation is real," Howard said.
The last person to check was the leader who attended the meeting in holographic projection mode. A skull-shaped drone was floating next to him. The drone flew in front of the person who was brought in and scanned him from head to toe.
"Severe drug dependence, organ failure, nerve necrosis, and remaining life span no more than five Terra standard hours." The leader gave the test results.
"This kind of person's nerves are completely necrotic. No matter how strong the medicine is, it won't work on him because his brain no longer has the ports to receive it." Howard said, "Now, let him eat the pancakes I made."
However, it took some effort to get that person to eat the pancake, because he was completely unable to understand what was said to him, and he would struggle if the pancake was forced into his mouth. His bones were already brittle, and his arms would break with the slightest force.
But the moment the pancake was forced down his esophagus, he suddenly stopped struggling. The people on both sides who were forcing the pancake into his mouth stepped away from him. The man sat on the ground, tilted his head, and seemed to be recalling something.
“This…this…” Two lines of tears flowed from his sunken eye sockets. He examined his body in confusion, and finally covered his eyes with his still movable hand and cried, “No…no…no…how could I become like this…”
"It's your fault! It's all your fault!" The man suddenly became ruthless and pounced on the leader who was watching the show, and then was shot in the head.
