Chapter 53 Before Encountering the Enemy

Tina and Smoker were enjoying themselves, while the pirates on the other side were on the verge of collapse. In terms of martial arts, they were no match for the two teenagers, not to mention the guy chattering under the brim of his hat. Although he hadn't taken any action, he had already incurred the wrath of the crowd and was far more annoying than a child.

The word "annoying" could sum up this situation. However, they were unable to break through Tina and Smoker's defenses and could only serve as sparring partners for them.

"Let's go together. If we capture them, we'll have a chance to be selected." The pirates roared and swarmed forward. Tina and Smoker remained calm and headed straight for the weak point in the crowd.

Tina, lithe and swift, rushed first to the emaciated pirate. Thea had taught Tina that when facing numerous enemies, one must identify their weaknesses and eliminate them first, using sheer force to intimidate and terrify the opponent. Now, with lightning speed, Tina delivered a fierce side kick, sending the emaciated pirate flying. Then, gritting her teeth, she roared at the other pirates, and, combined with her previous fatal strike, she instantly halted the pirates' attack.

To Thea, Tina's reaction after the side kick seemed almost cute, like a kitten whose fur had been taken away from its fish. In contrast, Smoker's response was more sophisticated. Perhaps due to his experience in street brawls, his fighting style resembled that of a field warrior. Thea looked at Smoker as he leaped up, kneeing a pirate in the jaw. He turned and kicked the oncoming pirate, who receded from Thea's sight until he collided with a tree and fell to the ground. Finally, he stepped on the shoulder of the pirate he had kneed and launched a magnificent spinning kick, but it missed. The pirate had been knocked unconscious by the knee, and by the time Smoker landed on him, he had already fallen to the ground.

Smoker slumped to the ground, clutching his buttocks with a pained expression, then hurriedly stood up and continued fighting. Ten minutes later, the pirates were completely defeated. Thea smiled and asked the two how they felt. Tina and Smoker replied that actual combat was more interesting than training.

Teya chuckled and shook his head. He walked over to a still-conscious pirate, grabbed him by the collar, and demanded, "What do you mean by being selected? What's hidden in the back hill?" The pirate replied, "Ah, I fainted." He then rolled his eyes and fell to the ground. Unexpectedly, he immediately yelled, "I said, stop pinching me!"

"Is everything you say true?" Teya stared at the pirate, using his Observation Haki to detect his emotional fluctuations, confirming his words. "I dare not lie." The pirate shrank back and looked up, his fear evident in his words. "Thank you." As soon as he finished speaking, the pirate's vision went black, and he collapsed to the ground like a puppet.

As the situation became clearer, Teya looked toward the mountain behind. The pirates had described a place similar to a gladiatorial arena. They were the eliminated, wandering there, hoping for a chance to reenter. The ticket to the arena was to allow the person behind the scenes to capture qualified children.

However, the identity of the person behind this is unknown, and the pirates haven't mentioned it. As Thea sorts through the details, the reason why Tina was previously targeted becomes clear. According to the boss, this secret arena was likely planned two years ago. The pirates explain that the arena is open to everyone, but only if they meet two conditions: a child and a token.

"Looks like the trip went pretty smoothly." Teya tossed a badge, a pirate's token of honor, granting entry. Tina worriedly asked, "Teacher Teya, no, Carlos, are you really going?" "Yes." Teya gently stroked Tina's head. "Go find the boss; it's safer there." "But..." Smoker interrupted Tina, saying, "Tina, listen to Carlos. We'll only be a burden to him." He knew the enemy's situation was unclear. If the arena was truly a disaster, going along would be like sending sheep into the tiger's mouth. He had no choice but to trust Teya. "I must ensure your safety. If you don't return in three days..." Teya paused, then smiled. "You must have lost your way. Call the navy to find me." Tina laughed at that.

Watching the two men leave, Teya felt a surge of joy, now free from worries. "Are you in the arena? Let me see your true form." Teya donned a black mask and headed for the direction the pirates had pointed. After about an hour's journey, Teya arrived at the mouth of a steep valley, where a few stone houses lay scattered like pieces on a chessboard. It was obvious that someone was talking, and Teya, the only outsider, caught their attention. They drew their weapons, wary of him.

"Who are you?" Faced with the question, Teya remained silent, merely pulling up the collar of his windbreaker to reveal his badge. The guards nodded, allowing Teya to proceed. They sized him up, and the taller one asked, "New here? Be aware of the rules. Don't get yourself killed for no apparent reason." Teya nodded earnestly, and the man glanced at him with satisfaction. "You've come with the token, and the only way forward is through the valley ahead. If you're traveling with children, you can take a shortcut." "So, through the valley leads to the arena?" "Yes, indeed. Since this is your first time here, I remind you to be cautious on the road." After registering his name, Teya entered the valley.

Halfway through the journey, the wind blew up a dust storm. Though wearing a mask, Teya pulled the brim of his hat down to prevent blinding him. He didn't want to reveal his strength until he met the enemy. He remembered his guards' advice and, upon entering the valley, remained alert, calm, and used his observation Haki...
