Gold Medal Sweetheart
Chapter 21 What’s your name?
That day, Tang Xin, still half-heartedly at work, suddenly received a call from Zhang Meng, who was also a volunteer at a charity organization. As soon as the call was connected, a panicked voice called out, "Tang Tang, big news! Big news!"
Tang Xin knew that Zhang Meng had the ability to exaggerate a small matter like picking up a sesame seed into a watermelon, so she didn't take her surprise seriously. "What's the big deal?"
Zhang Meng heard her indifferent tone, but she was a bit mysterious. "You seem very uncooperative. But if you hear the following news, you won't be crying like you're dying." She deliberately raised her voice. "Someone donated one million yuan to the department of our charity organization, 'Love Aid'."
This news, more explosive than the discovery of a UFO, made Tang Xin subconsciously ask, "What? Say it again."
While the charity Tang Xin participated in was relatively formal, with branches across various charities, such as student aid, environmental protection, elderly care, and stray animal rescue, and its activities were relatively frequent and regular, it was a non-profit, private organization without any financial resources or support from any organization. Its activities were funded by voluntary donations from volunteers, but these were small amounts, no more than a few thousand, so one million yuan was undoubtedly an astronomical figure.
After receiving a positive response from the other end of the phone, Tang Xin's brain, which had been bombarded by this heavy bomb, gradually regained some rationality and asked, "Who donated this?"
"I heard that the person who made the donation was not willing to reveal it to too many people, and I didn't find out, so this person is still a mystery." The voice on the other end of the phone was full of admiration and a little bit of loss.
Tang Xin was also full of curiosity. After all, this amount was incredible for this organization that had never received any donations.
After hanging up the phone, Tang Xin thought for a moment, a small guess lingering in his mind, but he quickly dismissed it.
Life was relatively regular. Every day after get off work and dinner, Tang Xin would set up her stall at the night market on time, and business was pretty good. She had been with Jin Taize for over a week. Jin Taize would occasionally call, and they even had coffee together once, though he'd still order that ridiculously expensive musk coffee. Whenever she called Yushan to report on things, Yushan would always gently tell her to relax, saying everything was under control. Consequently, Tang Xin, guided by Yushan's expectations, repeatedly told herself that her time with Jin Taize was coming to an end, and she would be easily dumped.
Today, Tang Xin set up her stall at the night market as usual. As the weather gradually warmed, more and more people came out for after-dinner strolls, making the night market even more lively. Tang Xin and Lin Lin chatted while tending to their business. Amidst the busyness, a warm and gentle voice echoed through the bustling night, like a warm spring breeze blowing open a bud about to awaken, bringing a sense of peace and joy. "Hello, we meet again."
Tang Xin raised her head and saw the elegant and handsome man in front of her. The light blue gradient plaid shirt really matched his appearance, making him look so clean. And that natural smile seemed like a leaf gently falling into the Danube, creating layers of ripples.
It’s him! I actually see him here again!
"Hello!" Tang Xin asked with a smile, "Why are you here?"
The man smiled and replied, "I just happened to be passing by and came to take a look."
At this time, Lin Lin, who was standing by, saw it and immediately leaned close to Tang Xin's ear and asked softly, "Wow, who is this? He's so handsome!" Her eyes had already fallen on the man opposite.
Tang Xin was afraid that the man would hear Lin Lin's blunt question, so she smiled at the newcomer shyly and introduced him, "This is my friend." The man smiled politely and greeted Lin Lin.
This smile made Lin Lin gasp, and she couldn't digest it for a long time. Tang Xin felt that her friend was so disappointing in front of the handsome man.
"Um..." Tang Xin felt a little embarrassed when she recalled the mismatch between the snacks she gave him last time and the value of his mount. "I wonder if you liked the snacks I gave him last time..."
"I said I was just passing by, but actually, this was part of the reason I came," the man said. "The mint tea I brewed last time tasted really good. I want to buy some more."
Tang Xin didn't expect that he would make a trip just for this, and a small sense of accomplishment sang in her heart.
The man was already surrounded by some customers who were absent-mindedly choosing things because of this incredibly handsome man. When they heard what he said, they took the opportunity to strike up a conversation with him.
Girl A: "Which kind of mint tea?"
Girl B: "How does it taste? Is it really delicious?"
Girl C: "Is there anything else she can recommend?"
Please, shouldn’t these questions be asked to her as the stall owner?
Girl Ding: "If you like mint, I can give you a pot!" Hearing such unreasonable words, Tang Xin couldn't help but cast a look of despair at Lin Lin with her sisters. The local area suddenly became much quieter.
Lin Lin seemed a little overwhelmed by the sudden rush of attention. She smiled slightly and pointed at a can of plums. "Wow, this looks delicious too!"
"Girl, this is a very unnatural turn of events, isn't it?" Tang Xin couldn't help but shake her head at Lin Lin's pretentious praise of the snacks.
The handsome man answered the customers' questions with even more patience than she, the stall owner, did. Tang Xin, on the other hand, simply collected the money. Soon, a considerable amount of goods had been sold from the stall. This bustling scene was only interrupted by a phone call from the man.
Seeing the handsome man covering his ears and trying hard to listen to the voice on the phone, Tang Xin pointed to a quieter place at the back of the stall and motioned him to come over to talk on the phone.
The man was obviously a little surprised by Tang Xin's attentiveness, but he still smiled slightly and walked to the back of the stall.
After about a minute, the man said, "Okay, I'll come find you in a bit. Don't drink it all by yourself."
After he hung up, Tang Xin handed him a bag of mint tea and said hesitantly, "I'm so sorry for asking you to be my assistant just now."
"You're welcome," the handsome man said modestly, "I'm just telling the truth. I really like it, so I came."
Tang Xin really didn't expect her snacks to be so popular, and she was very happy. "Then I hope you can come more often!"
The man didn't seem to expect Tang Xin's answer, and said briskly, "Really?"
"Of course," Tang Xin nodded, winking playfully. "Where else can I find such a great spokesperson? Sales are already booming right now. It seems handsome guys have a lot of appeal! Good things happen every time I see you. You're truly my lucky star!"
"It's my honor too! By the way, here's the money." The man said as he scanned the QR code tag hanging around Tang Xin's neck.
Tang Xin quickly covered the sign, speaking a little quickly out of anxiety, "No need to give it to me."
The man insisted, "How can that be? You've been working hard all night."
"If that's the case, I should give you a commission from the things I just sold!" Tang Xin said half-jokingly, "And I wonder how many snacks like this I could buy with the change I got last time. Don't deprive me of this small opportunity to express my gratitude."
The man smiled warmly and said, "Then I'd better obey your command."
The man walked towards the car and was about to open the door when he seemed to remember something. He slowly turned around and shouted to the girl in the distance, "What's your name?"
In the night market, there are bustling voices, merchants shouting their wares, and the explosive rhythm of car DJ dance music.
The girl didn't seem to hear the man's words clearly. She raised her slender arms, smiled and waved vigorously towards the other side of the street which was gradually becoming quiet.
The man was slightly stunned.
Two young women who had just made some purchases turned back against the crowd and called out to the girl. They appeared to be explaining something to her, and as she listened, she suddenly understood. She pulled out her phone and asked them to scan a QR code, thanking them profusely. They grabbed a snack and thrust it into the two girls' hands, but they waved it off.
"It seems that I have undercharged her," the man shook his head and smiled, "How careless!" Not wanting to distract the girl any longer, he opened the car door and got in gracefully.
Lin Lin watched the man's car drive away and asked, jumping up and down, "Is this the person who helped you pick up your phone last time?"
Tang Xin lowered her head to tidy up the messy stall after the rush to buy things, and replied nonchalantly, "Yeah, what's wrong?"
Lin Lin held her hands, her eyes sparkling, and she looked intoxicated. "That's great! You've found a treasure!"
"Bao?" Tang Xin tilted her head, smoothed her bangs on her forehead, and asked in confusion.
"Yes, you see, he is tall, rich and handsome. Isn't it a treasure?" Lin Lin said in a very concise manner.
"So what?" Tang Xin responded nonchalantly, "Have you been poisoned by romance novels? The reality is, tall, rich, handsome men go with fair, rich, beautiful women. And I'm not fair, rich, beautiful women."
"Actually, Bai Hemei, you are still qualified. If you two were together, wouldn't you be heading straight for the road to extravagance and debauchery?" Lin Lin analyzed the situation for Tang Xin as if it were true.
Tang Xin rolled her eyes helplessly. "The most important thing right now is making money, right? Making money is king." She truly felt inferior to Lin Lin's imagination.
"First, I don't know him well enough to know if he's single. Second, even if he is, I have a strong taste for men, and a tall, rich, and handsome guy like him is not within my taste range. Got it?"
"Really?" Lin Lin almost shouted out in excitement.
Tang Xin didn't understand. The change was too fast. Just now she seemed to be trying to help each other, but how could she suddenly feel like they were breaking up a couple?
"Then can you find a chance to ask him if he is single?" Lin Lin asked embarrassedly.
Tang Xin was stunned for a moment. After making sure that she had heard correctly, she suddenly understood Lin Lin's key point.
After getting Tang Xin's approval, Lin Lin got rid of the mental burden of "don't bully your friend's husband" and urged Tang Xin to call right away to confirm whether the handsome guy had a girlfriend.
They were just casual acquaintances, so why would she even think of asking for someone's phone number? After she told the truth, Lin Lin inevitably began to criticize her. She'd been talking about details determining success or failure, the importance of foresight, and even the idea that lack of effort in youth leads to regret in old age. Ultimately, Tang Xin's promise that if they ever saw him again, he'd do his best to make things right for Lin Lin finally settled the matter.
