Chapter 540 Scarlet Witch & Thrawn

Quicksilver's proposal was successful, and the whole hall was filled with laughter, until Thor got a lot of malt beer from somewhere, which directly pushed the party to a climax.

However, there was one person who just stood aside and watched quietly throughout the party. It was not that he did not like to participate, but on the contrary, he enjoyed the party atmosphere at the moment. Such moments provided him with a valuable opportunity to get to know the people he would work with in the future.

It was one thing to understand people on a work level, but in more relaxed settings he could get to know them more deeply.

"So, you just keep watching silently?" Thrawn's thoughts were interrupted by the voice of Wanda Maximoff, who walked over and stood beside him.

"What's wrong? Don't you want to join?"

“Oh, no, I’m actually already part of it,” Thrawn responded calmly, “I just want to take some time for myself.”

Wanda looked at the Chiss in front of her with a playful look. She said jokingly, "I can feel your thoughts without telekinesis, right?"

This made the corners of Thrawn's mouth rise slightly, "I promise that what I said is true. I did enjoy this party."

Wanda walked away with a slightly mischievous look of doubt on her face, saying, "Okay, I'll trust you for now."

"For now?" Thrawn asked back, "Then how can I prove that what I say is true?"

Wanda hummed to herself, crossed her arms, and shrugged, "Look, aren't we communicating now?"

Thrawn smiled slightly, as if he understood something, "I see."

Afterwards, the two fell into silence, just quietly enjoying the party, and Wanda finally broke the silence.

"It seems," she said, "that your plans and tactics are changing the situation." Her tone was full of affirmation and appreciation.

Thrawn glanced at Wanda and said nothing.

"The news is that you will be promoted soon."

Thrawn did not deny it, then took a sip of the drink in his hand, and then he said frankly: "Admiral Parian told me this news not long ago. It seems that I have impressed many people, and the speed is faster than I expected." His tone revealed a kind of confidence and expectation.

"I bet this is more than just a few leads can express," Wanda emphasized.

"Maybe, but if there were no Avengers, my improvement process might have been much longer." Thrawn said calmly.

"Improvement?" Wanda asked doubtfully, "Do you mean growth?"

"Yes," Thrawn replied candidly, "I mean growth in military careers. It may sound egotistical, but I have seen too many men who, for vanity and ego, fail to lead large teams, wasting lives and resources rather than facing difficult circumstances and challenges. I wish to minimize this, and so I need to increase the overall strength of the Republic's military."

Wanda stared at him with deep eyes, as if to see into his heart. "Is this out of a sense of responsibility? Or ambition?" she asked.

"Duty," he answered without hesitation.

Scarlet Witch stared at the man, her curiosity about the Chiss in front of her growing. She found that people with the same mentality as him were rare.

"Do you have any greater pursuits?" she asked.

"Ms. Maximoff, knowing that you have the ability to read minds, it would be unwise for me to hide some of my thoughts."

Wanda's cheeks puffed up slightly, "No need to be so formal, just call me Wanda."

Thrawn just tilted his head slightly and gave her a calm look, but she read a hint of smile in his eyes, so she smiled back.

"So, your goal is just to get promoted?" Wanda asked casually. "I guess for someone who has just arrived at a new organization, suddenly receiving so much attention may cause some people to be dissatisfied."

"I expect there will be resistance," Thrawn pointed out. "Whether within the organization or in the outside world, there will always be people who cannot accept the rapid advancement of others."

Wanda hummed again, and her gaze turned to the determined-looking Chiss man, his eyes full of deep thought.

“Wanda,” he began, causing her to glance sideways at him, “I know that now that your connection with Earth has been reestablished, the likelihood of your team returning home has greatly increased.”

"Oh, there is no doubt about that." Wanda answered frankly, "But we will not give up the galaxy so easily because of this. We have left too many traces here, and we can't just walk away like this. I have Merlin and Elena to care about, Natasha has Mara, and Grogu."

Thrawn remained silent, as if waiting for her to finish.

"But... I want to go home." Wanda's voice was a little hesitant. "Would you like to go with me?"

The question caught Thrawn off guard and he immediately turned to her.

"What does this mean?" he asked, with confusion in his eyes.

Wanda shrugged, thinking back to their first meeting. "I remember you talking about learning about different fields of art and culture from all over the world. Earth is such a planet with rich diversity, even more than Coruscant."

"Really?" Thrawn whispered to himself, his interest now fully piqued.

"More than you know, music, art..." Wanda took something out of her coat. It was a book.

Thrawn's eyes lit up, and he was very surprised to see the book. In the current galaxy, books are rare treasures.

When he saw the title of the book, he was even more surprised. "The Art of War?" he asked, obviously attracted by the title. "It's... The Art of War? Did I read it correctly?"

"Yes." Wanda said with a smile, "I think you can definitely find the books you like on Earth, Thrawn, there are all kinds of them."

Thrawn looked at Wanda curiously, a hint of doubt in his eyes. "You... bought me this book?"

"Yes," Wanda confirmed, "I thought you were the type who liked to read."

Thrawn considered that the galaxy was in a period of peace and that going to Earth was an opportunity. If he had the opportunity to set foot on this land in person, he could not deny that the secrets hidden in the Avengers' hometown would interest him greatly. After all, a planet that could breed so many creatures with extraordinary skills, strengths, and abilities must have great mysteries behind it.

"Perhaps I will take you up on your offer." Thrawn tilted his head slightly, his eyes fixed on her, and Scarlet Witch responded with a friendly smile.

"I'll take you there."
