HP: Let professors walk towards the light
Chapter 50 The secret room is opened
On Halloween, students were looking forward to the delicious food at the dinner. The hall had been decorated with live bats since the morning. Hagrid's big pumpkin, which could fit three people, was made into a lantern. There were even rumors that Headmaster Dumbledore had invited a dancing skeleton troupe to perform. It was truly an exciting night.
But Harry doesn't think so, because he can't enjoy the Halloween dinner - Headless Nick invited Harry, Hermione and Ron to attend his 500th anniversary death party tonight, and they had already agreed to it.
They could only pass through the golden and fragrant halls, walk through the long corridors lit by dark candles, and head towards the office. The bright blue flames cast ghostly and creepy shadows on their faces, and they always felt that the temperature around them dropped by one degree with every step they took.
The three of them had to hold their robes tightly as they walked through the black and purple door curtains. Hundreds of transparent ghosts were floating in the room, dancing a strange waltz to a creepy music, and a symphony orchestra was playing music with electric saws.
The blue light makes everything seem extra spooky.
Harry and the others were so cold that even the breath they exhaled turned into mist. If they wanted to move their numb hands and feet, they had to worry about walking through the ghosts floating everywhere.
Ron, who was looking forward to dinner, was shocked when he saw the food on the table: rotten and smelly fish, coal-like cakes, cheese crawling with maggots, and a tombstone cake that read - Mr. Nicholas de Mimsy Porpington died on October 1492, 10.
Hermione saw Myrtle. She, Harry and Ron were complaining about Myrtle's scary behavior in the ladies' room, and were heard by Peeves. Unexpectedly, Peeves complained directly to Myrtle, and Myrtle burst into pain in the hall. Peeves even laughed at him.
A group of headless ghosts riding on ghost horses rushed in, making the scene even more terrifying.
They really couldn't stay any longer, so Ron suggested leaving, and Harry agreed without a second thought. He hoped that he could still have pudding if he went back now...
They walked back the way they had come, toward the stone steps of the hall.
Suddenly, Harry heard a strange sound again. It was exactly the same sound he had heard in Lockhart's office before. It was so cold and chilling -
"Tear you apart... kill you... let me bite you to pieces..."
Harry stopped immediately, leaning against the wall, listening intently.
"Harry, what are you—"
"It's that voice I mentioned again, don't speak--"
"I'm so hungry... I've waited too long..."
"Listen!" said Harry eagerly, while Ron and Hermione stood frozen to the side.
Harry suddenly looked up, his frightened eyes showing excitement, "This way!"
He shouted as he ran up the stairs. The Great Hall was particularly noisy, so he ran straight up the granite steps to the first floor. Ron and Hermione followed him, confused.
Ron asked timidly, "Harry, what are we doing -"
"Shh!" Harry interrupted him directly. He heard a voice from upstairs, "...blood...I smell blood..."
"It's going to kill someone!" Harry hurried up the stairs and they stopped in an empty corridor at the end.
"Harry, what's going on? I can't hear anything." Ron wiped his sweat.
"I heard it!" Hermione screamed.
"What?" Ron asked confused.
"You heard it too, didn't you!" said Harry in surprise.
"Yes, I heard a rooster crowing, but it was very soft, Ron, listen." Hermione said to Ron.
"The rooster crowing? No...that's not right—" Harry shook his head quickly.
"Oh! I heard it too, but it seems to be gone now." Ron looked shocked, "But where did the rooster come from?"
"But Hagrid's roosters were killed a long time ago. He said there wasn't a single one left." Hermione thought.
"No, it can't be a ghost cock," said Ron in horror.
"No! It's not the rooster, something is talking! Is it going to kill someone?" Harry retorted loudly.
Ron: "But all we heard was the cockerel, Harry—"
"Wait! Look, that..." Hermione gasped and pointed to the corridor.
They walked slowly towards the dim corridor. The light from the window shone on the wall in front of them. The words on the wall glowed faintly in the moonlight and torches.
[The mysterious chamber has been opened]
[Being the enemy of the heir, beware!]
"What's that?" Ron asked in a trembling voice.
As they approached the words, Harry was so nervous that he almost slipped on the water on the ground. On the torch bucket, that black mass - it was Mrs. Norris! Filch's cat, her tail hanging upside down, her whole body stiff and motionless, her eyes wide open.
"We should leave here!" Ron had just finished speaking when applause broke out from the auditorium downstairs. Soon, a group of students poured in from the stairs on both sides, and the corridor became brighter. When the students saw the cat, the chirping sound disappeared in an instant, and Harry and the other two were surrounded in the middle of the corridor...
A voice rang out in the silence.
"Being the enemy of the heir, beware! Some people need to be careful."
Draco had a cold expression, showing no emotion, and his eyes were fixed on the hanging cat.
"What happened!" Filch came running over after hearing the noise.
When he saw this scene, his eyes widened, looking at Harry viciously, screaming: "You! It's you! Killed my cat! You killed her, I'm going to kill you! I'm going to--"
"Filch!" Dumbledore also came over with a group of teachers, and he untied Mrs. Norris.
"Come with me, Filch," he said.
"You too, Mr. Potter, Mr. Weasley, Miss Granger."
At this time, Lockhart stepped forward and said with particular enthusiasm: "My office is the closest, just upstairs, Principal, please feel free to use it."
The students automatically made way for them, and Dumbledore led a group of people away from the spot and came to Lockhart's office.
"Come in." Lockhart opened the office door and made room.
But Dumbledore did not come in immediately. Instead, a black robe blocked Lockhart's view.
Snape rushed into the office first, and then Lockhart heard him say: "You'd better explain what this is all about, Lockhart."
"What—" Lockhart turned his head.
At this time, a group of people walked in and saw Snape squatting on the ground, holding a student wearing a Slytherin robe in his arms, who seemed to be unconscious.
Anyone who knew her would recognize her immediately: it was Hermalena.
"Why is it such a grand Halloween party, but my student didn't show up at the party, but was unconscious in your office?"
Snape's tone was cold. The gloating mood he had just felt over Potter's misfortune disappeared the moment Lockhart opened the door. He saw a student from his own college lying in someone else's office with a pale face. He checked Hermalena's condition and found that she was not like Mrs. Norris, so he couldn't help but breathe a sigh of relief.
"Well... Reina did come to my office this afternoon, but it was only because she didn't finish her homework on time last time, so I asked her to clean the room as a punishment, and then I left."
Lockhart explained.
"Severus, is she okay?" Dumbledore asked, rubbing his temple.
