"...What time is it now?"
The figure picked up a phone: "Four o'clock."
Louis wasn't fully awake yet: "Afternoon?"
"Early morning."
Louis moved and touched the wound on his waist, gasping for breath.
"Are all the gatherings over?"
The figure put down the phone: "Probably."
Louis was on the verge of tears. He had been unconscious for several hours. Although the weakness and soreness in his body had improved a lot, he was still weak.
"Thank you for taking care of me."
Rong Yuzhuo approached and handed Louis a glass of water. Without being helped, Louis got up on his own and gulped down several large mouthfuls.
"Are you still feeling unwell? Should we go to the hospital?"
Rong Yuzhuo didn't turn on the main light, but instead turned on a floor lamp by the bedside. The dim yellow light in the night seemed to unfurl a dark skirt, with trembling shadows at the edges.
Louis squinted, adjusting his eyes for a moment before saying, "No need, I'm ready."
Louis noticed the wrinkles in the other person's clothes and guessed that the other person must have been worried and had been watching him all night. He felt a little embarrassed and said, "I'm sorry to have worried you."
Rong Yuzhuo took the empty water glass and shook his head: "I can't sleep anyway."
Louis ruffled his hair; the back of his head was soaked with sweat, and his trousers and blankets were all wrinkled and pressed together, making it difficult to move.
"Um, I'll go take a shower first."
Louis propped himself up slightly on the edge of the bed. Rong Yuzhuo didn't leave; he helped support the weak patient.
Can I wash it?
Louis readily agreed, "Yes, I can wash myself."
Although he's usually quite oblivious, it's still too much to ask someone he's only known for less than two weeks to bathe him.
Rong Yuzhuo, however, did not mean that.
"I mean, can you get your back injury wet?"
Louis was taken aback, then nodded: "It's alright."
After saying that, Louis quietly got out of bed, took out a towel, and stood at the door. Rong Yuzhuo, who had been following behind, suddenly asked again:
"how did you make it?"
Louis squeezed the towel in his hand.
"I accidentally burned myself."
Rong Yuzhuo didn't speak, but turned and opened the door. The light from the living room shone in, and a small patch of glowing shadow in the trash can by the door caught Louis's attention.
Those were the removed contact lenses, which had lost moisture from being exposed to the air and looked dry, like two pieces of plastic.
"and many more."
This time it was Louis who spoke, and he immediately reached out and grabbed Rong Yuzhuo, who had already walked half a step ahead.
The other person turned their head slightly, and Louis squinted to look at them, only to find that the other person's skin seemed to be very fair as well. Usually, their temperament was cold and aloof, but their skin color was not so noticeable.
"you……"
Louis carefully considered his words: "Thank you for helping me take off my glasses."
Rong Yuzhuo nodded: "It's no trouble at all. Wearing it to sleep probably wouldn't be very comfortable."
Louis didn't let go: "When you were picking it, did you see anything...?"
Rong Yuzhuo lowered his gaze, his eyelashes casting shadows, and fixed his eyes on the other person's pupils, which had turned back to brown and black.
"Don't push yourself when you're not feeling well in the future."
Rong Yuzhuo's tone was very natural.
"After you took off your contact lenses, your eyes were burning red. Next time you feel unwell, it's better not to wear contact lenses, otherwise it will cause a lot of trouble."
"When I came back, you were lying at the door. I shone a light on your pupils and there was no reaction. I thought you were dead."
Louis's expression was somewhat puzzled, and he waited for what was to come next. Rong Yuzhuo, however, seemed to have no intention of saying anything more. He just looked at the hand that was still holding his sleeve, as if wondering if the other party had anything else to ask.
Louis was embarrassed. "I'm not dead, I'm not dead... I'll definitely do it next time."
Rong Yuzhuo: "Definitely what?"
"I definitely won't wear it."
Louis chuckled dryly and released his grip. Rong Yuzhuo turned and left, heading straight back to his room.
Louis turned on the light in the room, looked at himself in the mirror for a while, and saw that his pupils had indeed turned back to brownish-black. Then he scratched his head and went to the bathroom.
The sound of rushing water could be heard, but Rong Yuzhuo in the master bedroom did not lie down on the bed to rest. Instead, he went to his desk and began preparing the teaching materials he would use for tutoring the next day.
After Louis finished showering, he glanced at the master bedroom where light was filtering through the door, gently closed the door, and went back to his own room.
