Si Yehan had already drawn his gun, but stopped when he heard Gu Wan's answer.
"Liang Heng," Gu Wan's voice was as cold as ice, "let me go."
Liang Heng increased his strength: "It's been six years, Wanwan. You know how I treat you. Why do you have to wait for an enemy?"
"He's not an enemy." Gu Wan pulled her hand back abruptly. "And even if he was, I would never marry you."
Liang Heng's face instantly darkened. At this moment, Nian Nian suddenly ran in from the children's room: "Mom! I had a nightmare!"
Liang Heng immediately put on a gentle expression: "Be good, Nian Nian, uncle will take you back to sleep."
“No!” Nian Nian hid behind Gu Wan, “I want to sleep with my mom!”
Gu Wan quickly picked up her daughter and said, "Please go back. Nian Nian wants to go to bed."
After Liang Heng left, Si Yehan emerged from the bathroom and pulled Gu Wan and his daughter into his arms. Nian Nian kissed him on the cheek, "Dad, when are you going to take us away?"
"Soon, baby." Si Yehan kissed his daughter's forehead, then looked at Gu Wan with a fiery gaze. "Now, I need to talk to your mother alone."
After sending Nian Nian back to the children's room, Si Yehan pressed Gu Wan against the door with an almost ferocious motion. He bit her earlobe and said, "Don't even think about sleeping tonight."
Gu Wan climbed onto his shoulders: "No need to sleep..."
This time, Si Yehan deliberately slowed down his pace. He wanted to spend the entire night making Gu Wan remember every touch, every bit of warmth. When the pre-dawn light filtered through the curtains, Gu Wan had already melted beneath him, her fingertips trembling.
"Remember this feeling," Si Yehan whispered in her ear, finally allowing himself to release his emotions. "I'll pick you up tomorrow."
When he left, Gu Wan collapsed on the bed, unable to even lift her hands. Outside the window, the first rays of sunlight penetrated the clouds and shone on the "History of Venetian Architecture" on the bedside table. There was a piece of paper between the pages, with a time, a coordinate, and a vow written on it:
"This time, I want Nangong Xuan to watch me take you away with her own eyes."
The night was as dark as ink, and the lights of the Nangong old house looked particularly dim in the rain. Gu Wan stood anxiously in front of the window, his fingers tightly gripping the curtains.
Tonight, Si Yehan would come to pick her and Nian Nian up and leave.
Gu Wan subconsciously touched the thumb-sized phone hidden inside the hairpin. Si Yehan had it custom-made. If damaged, the built-in chip would self-destruct.
"Master, it's time to set off." Liang Heng's voice sounded outside the door, interrupting Gu Wan's thoughts.
To be on the safe side, Gu Wan still followed her out secretly. She had to see Nangong Xuan get into the car with her own eyes before she could feel at ease.
Nangong Xuan walked down the stairs in a luxurious evening gown, her lips as red as blood and her eyes sharp.
After watching Nangong Xuan's convoy leave, Gu Wan waited there for a full ten minutes, making sure the convoy had gone far away before returning to the bedroom.
She took out her phone from her clock-in and was about to send a message to Si Yehan when she heard a commotion downstairs.
She quietly lifted a corner of the curtain and saw that Nangong Xuan's car had secretly returned from the side door alone!
"Oh no!" Gu Wan's heartbeat suddenly accelerated. Trembling, she pulled out her small cell phone and was about to call Si Yehan to report the news when the door suddenly kicked open.
"There really is a ghost!" Liang Heng rushed in like a ghost and snatched the phone from her hand.
Gu Wan's pupils suddenly constricted. At that moment, Si Yehan's warning flashed through her mind: "If this phone falls into the wrong hands, our plan will be ruined." Without hesitation, she lunged at Liang Heng, snatched the phone back with all her might, and slammed it to the ground.
"Snap!" With a crisp sound, the phone shattered into pieces and a wisp of green smoke came out.
Liang Heng's face instantly darkened. "Wanwan, you've disappointed me so much." He grabbed her neck. "The man you were meeting secretly a few days ago was Si Yehan, right? I see you're still tangled up with your enemy!"
Gu Wan was strangled by him and couldn't breathe, but she stared at him stubbornly: "You...will never...understand..."
Liang Heng laughed in anger and threw her to the two bodyguards: "Lock her in the west guest room!" He turned to the maid beside him, "You, put on the clothes of a young lady and sit in this room."
As Gu Wan was roughly dragged away, she heard Liang Heng on the phone: "Master, you guessed right, they are indeed in contact... Everything is ready, just waiting for Si Yehan to fall into the trap..."
The west guest room's windows were barred shut, and two armed bodyguards stood outside. Gu Wan, gagged and bound, could only bang her body against the wall, trying to make some noise that would alert Si Yehan.
Nine fifteen in the evening was the time when the charity dinner began, and it was also the time when Si Yehan originally planned to take action.
"Don't come... Please don't come..." At this moment, Gu Wan could only pray silently in his heart.
Twenty minutes later, a gunshot pierced the night sky.
Gu Wan looked up suddenly, followed by a series of gunshots and shouts. "Catch him! Don't let him get away! He's been shot, stop him!"
Her heart nearly stopped, and she stumbled to the window. Through the rain, she saw a dozen bodyguards gathered in a circle, with a figure lying in the middle. They were punching and kicking the person on the ground, their blood splattering in the rain, a shocking sight.
"No!" Gu Wan let out a vague but heartbreaking scream, banging on the window desperately. But everything was eventually swallowed up by the thunderstorm and noise.
Liang Heng appeared in the crowd, looking down at the people on the ground, then a cruel smile appeared on his lips. He bent down and said something, then stood up and waved his hand coldly.
Gu Wan saw the bodyguards dragging up the bloody figure. At that moment, she saw clearly - it was the black windbreaker that Si Yehan often wore!
The world spun before her eyes, and Gu Wan felt a sharp pain radiating from her heart to every part of her body. Her vision began to blur, and her legs gave way, causing her to fall backward.
Just when she was about to fall to the ground, a pair of hands caught her steadily and then helped to untie her.
"Ye Han?" Gu Wan looked up in disbelief and met a pair of familiar, smiling eyes.
Si Yehan raised his index finger to his lips and gently wiped the tears from her face with his other hand. "Shh, don't make a sound." His voice was as deep as a cello. "That's not me."
Gu Wan's tears welled up, and she bit her lip hard to hold back. Si Yehan quickly checked her condition, then pulled out a miniature communicator from his pocket. "Team A, in place. Team B, ready for support. We'll be moving in three minutes."
He put a bulletproof vest on Gu Wan and said, "Can we go? We have to find Nian Nian."
