Chapter 31: Doing Business (Part )

Last time we talked about Li Yi reciting the "Thousand-armed Thousand-eyed Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva's Great, Complete, Unimpeded, Greatly Compassionate Heart Dharani Sutra" in his heart. Let's see if there will be any adventures.

Just as Li Yi was silently reciting the scriptures in his heart, his whole body was covered with golden light and his skin was covered with gold paint, which was brighter than the golden Buddha statue in the hall. At the same time, the statue of Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva in the Main Hall emitted Buddha light, as if listening to something.

The golden light on Li Yi's body continued to emanate from his body and was absorbed by the Guanyin Bodhisattva statue! Suddenly, the Guanyin Bodhisattva statue shone with golden light, and the original bronze statue seemed to have been replaced with gold, illuminating the entire hall with golden splendor!

In just a moment, golden light burst out from the statue of Tathagata Buddha in the center, followed by the statue of Guangsheng Bodhisattva, and then the statue of Manjusri Bodhisattva, and then one by one the statues of Arhats also flashed golden light. The entire Xishan Temple was shrouded in Buddha's light, and the ten thousand feet of Buddha's light could be seen by people as far away as Shangjing City!

Everyone in Xishan Temple was blinded by the golden light. Suddenly, Li Yi felt as if time had stopped. The main hall in front of him had changed its appearance. The person sitting in the middle was no longer a statue of Buddha, but the real Tathagata Buddha. The Bodhisattvas on both sides and the Arhats next to him were no longer bronze statues, but real deities.

Li Yi shouted, "Is this the Great Leiyin Temple of Lingjiu Mountain?" However, his voice could not come out, and it could not come out of his mouth. He looked at everything around him, those real golden-bodied arhats, the three bodhisattvas, and the Tathagata Buddha, but they seemed to be unable to see him. It was as if he was looking at a holographic projection, just like when he met Guangsheng Bodhisattva.

The faces of Tathagata Buddha and the three Bodhisattvas could not be seen clearly, but they could clearly recognize who was who. The facial features of the golden-bodied Arhats could be seen clearly, and their appearances could be said to be varied, or in other words, they had all kinds of appearances.

Before Li Yi had time to look at everyone present, he heard the Buddha Tathagata laugh and say, "Apo Luji Deshe Bola."

Avalokitesvara bowed and replied, "Disciple is here."

"Today, you have this good fortune. First, you have obtained a golden body, second, you have obtained the magical power of Buddhism, and third, you have obtained the true scripture for saving the world. This is cause for celebration."

"Thank you, Buddha, for giving me this opportunity. I am willing to follow this true scripture and make another great vow to save all living beings."

As soon as he finished speaking, six pairs of arms appeared in the light behind Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva, swaying up and down. There was an eye on the palm of each hand. The Bodhisattva just said, "Concentrate!" and the arms behind him disappeared, returning to their original appearance.

The other two Bodhisattvas bowed and congratulated him, "Congratulations, Junior Brother." "Congratulations, Junior Brother."

Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva returned the greetings one by one, and then the Arhats bowed and congratulated them. The Bodhisattvas bowed one by one and returned the greetings, and the ceremony was over.

The Tathagata Buddha said, "From today on, I order you to go to the Eastern Holy Land to spread Buddhism again. One is to help you realize your ambition, and the other is to consolidate your Buddhist practice. This time, you are not allowed to ask for help from Lingshan. You will have to make your own decisions on the many obstacles along the way. This is also a test for you."

Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva bowed and replied, "Disciple will follow the Buddha's instructions and will go to the Eastern Holy Land to preach the Dharma. I will do my best to glorify Buddhism." Tathagata Buddha smiled and cast his gaze on Li Yi.

Suddenly, the entire hall disappeared, and the Buddha, Bodhisattvas, and Arhats also disappeared, leaving only a golden light around. At this time, Guanyin Bodhisattva appeared in front of Li Yi. His face was still not clear, but he was tall and looked like an extremely handsome man.

Li Yi asked, "Bodhisattva, was that the Great Leiyin Temple just now?" "Just now? Did you see what happened in the Leiyin Temple?"

Li Yi nodded and said, "I heard from the Buddha that he wants you to go to Dongsheng Shenzhou to spread the Dharma."

Guanzizai Bodhisattva smiled and said, "I didn't expect that the Buddha would let you witness this. Since the Buddha wants me to repay you for this favor, are you willing to accept it, Li Yi?"

Li Yi was not a fool, so he accepted it with pleasure. Just as he was about to speak, the Bodhisattva disappeared, replaced by a thousand-armed and thousand-eyed statue of great compassion and cause and effect.

The thousand-foot-tall Dharma image spoke, "Li Yi, this Dharma image of great compassion and cause and effect is held by me and transformed by me. It is different from Senior Brother Guangsheng's Dharma image of Great Power Acala and Great Benevolent Medicine Master Liuli. It is entirely controlled by my will. That is why the Dharma derived from this Dharma image can be passed on by me. Today, I have obtained the Thousand Hands and Thousand Eyes magical power with the scripture you gave me. I will just give you one Dharma as a half-return of your kindness. The other half will be returned to you in the future when you are in trouble."

As soon as he finished speaking, the thousand-foot-tall Dharma image slowly put his hands together and held Li Yi in his palms. There was a bang, and the palms came together. Then the Dharma image turned into golden light and slowly dissipated, and along with it everything around it.

Li Yi opened his eyes and found himself back in front of the statue of Avalokitesvara in Xishan Temple. The Buddha's light had faded away and everything was back to normal. There were only surprised pilgrims around and monks who came to watch from the temple.

Li Yi slowly stood up, not noticing any changes in himself. He shook his head and sighed, "It's so mysterious, I can't explain it!" Seeing Li Yi standing up, Zhengyuan and Jiyun hurried forward. Zhengyuan asked, "Xiuyuan? Were you discussing Buddhism with Guanyin Bodhisattva just now?"

Li Yi laughed and said, "No, old monk, how can you see clearly? Which eye of yours can tell that I am discussing Buddhism with the Bodhisattva?" "Oh, old monk, my eyes are blurry."

Li Yi walked towards his own meditation room. Zhengyuan and Jiyun accompanied him. As he walked, Li Yi said, "Anyone with eyes can see that I am clearly teaching the Buddha scriptures!"

"what!"

Zhengyuan and Jiyun both stood there in a daze, their jaws almost dropping to the ground!

Li Yi turned around and put his hands on their chins, saying, "Alright, it's not a big deal. And now I know why you don't teach me the King Kong Divine Skill. It's not that you don't want to teach me, but that you can't teach me."

Zheng Yuan was surprised and asked, "Can't teach? Xiu Yuan, what do you mean by that?"

"I have seen Bodhisattva Guangsheng and the Dharma image of the Great Power Acala. Bodhisattva Acala told me this himself."

Jiyun asked, "Uncle Junior Master, which Bodhisattva is the Immovable Bodhisattva?"

Li Yi rolled his eyes at Ji Yun and said, "You don't even know the true form of the Great and Mighty Acala Vidyaraja. How can you have mastered the essence of your Vajra Divine Art?"

Jiyun looked at Zhengyuan blankly, meaning, "Master, have you heard of Acalanatha Bodhisattva?"

Zheng Yuan coughed and said, "Acala Bodhisattva is the Dharmakāya that my Buddha Tathagata transformed into to slay demons. Later, because of his immeasurable merits in slaying demons, he was worshipped as Acala Bodhisattva. The Buddha used this immeasurable merit to transform Acala Bodhisattva into the Dharmakāya of Great Power Acala Mingwang and handed it over to Bodhisattva Guangsheng to manage. He also handed over the practice of slaying demons and protecting the Dharma to Bodhisattva Guangsheng."

"Master, why don't I know these things?" "This was taught to me by your grandmaster, the Laughing Lion Arhat, himself. Otherwise, I wouldn't know about this." Li Yi looked at the master and disciple with contempt, then turned around and continued walking.

Seeing Li Yi continue to walk towards the meditation room, the two followed him. Zhengyuan said with a flattering smile: "Xiuyuan, old monk, I want to talk to you about Buddhism. I wonder..."

Li Yi said without even turning his head: "I'm busy! I need to catch up on my sleep!" Ji Yun also smiled flatteringly and said: "Uncle Junior Master, can you tell me about this..."

"No, I need to catch up on my sleep!"

Then Li Yi entered the meditation room, turned around and blocked the two outside the door, saying: "I told you to catch up on your sleep! Don't disturb me! Get out of here! You have nothing to do! Old monk, the Buddha's light just now will definitely attract many pilgrims, why don't you go and entertain them? Are you still the abbot of Xishan Temple?

Jiyun, you should quickly accompany your master to the Great Hall. I guess someone will come to ask about the Buddha's light soon. You two should work out a story and explain why an outsider like me can cause such a strange phenomenon! Don't lose face for Xishan Temple!"

Zhengyuan and Jiyun looked at each other, Jiyun lowered his head and walked towards the main hall. Zhengyuan whispered, "Xiuyuan, the old monk wants to ask, can you explain the scriptures to everyone in today's evening class?" Li Yi opened the door, looked at the old monk's expectant eyes, smiled back, then slammed the door shut, and said at the moment of closing the door, "It depends on my mood!"

The old monk also lowered his head and walked towards the main hall helplessly. Seeing that his master had also hit a wall, Jiyun moved to Zhengyuan's side and asked, "Master, you said that the Bodhisattva instructed that Li Shizhu should be your junior brother, that is, my junior uncle, but looking at the situation just now, why do I feel that Li Shizhu should be your junior uncle, my great uncle?"

After saying this, the two of them turned back to look at the meditation room where Li Yi was, sighed together, and then walked towards the main hall together.

At this time, Li Yi in the small meditation room was in an extremely comfortable mood. The beeping just now made him feel so happy! It was so satisfying! He imagined the two of them leaving with their heads down, and Li Yi fell asleep in joy.

On the other side, Zhengyuan and Jiyun returned to the main hall and devoted themselves to their work. A thousand-foot-high Buddha light appeared, and the pilgrims who were originally in Xishan Temple, the villagers near Shangxishan, and even the believers in Shangjing City came to burn incense and ask what had happened.

As a result, the monks of Xishan Temple were so busy that they were exhausted. Even the martial monks had no time to practice and all came to help. They were busy until sunset and even missed the evening classes.

Zhengyuan has explained the Buddha's light hundreds of times. He explained it this way: Recently, Li Yi, a talented man from the capital, came to live in the temple and worshiped Buddha sincerely. He first composed a Buddhist song, and then prayed sincerely in the temple. The Bodhisattva heard Li Yi's voice, and thought that he had made great contributions to composing Buddhist songs and had a connection with Buddhism, so he sent down the Buddha's light to bless him.

Of course, this is not a lie. What he said was all true. He just didn't tell the whole truth, and he couldn't tell it. If he told others that an outsider was teaching Bodhisattva scriptures, how could Buddhism still maintain its reputation if it got out?

After a busy day, the temple finally returned to peace. Since the evening class time had passed, Zhengyuan asked the monks to have dinner first and then give the evening class. Jiyun came to the small meditation room with dinner, knocked on the door and said, "Uncle Junior Master, do you still need dinner? I have brought it to you. Do you want to eat something?"

Li Yi opened the door and stretched. Jiyun brought the food into the meditation room and put it on the table. Li Yi was indeed hungry. He had slept for most of the day and had gotten enough sleep, but it was almost night again. What should he do if he couldn't sleep at night? Li Yi looked at Jiyun and said, "How is it? Did you make a lot of money from incense offerings today?"

Jiyun said, "Young Master, you are joking. This is a temple. Who cares about the incense money? As long as it is enough to cover the monks' expenses, it's fine. If there is more or less, it's no big deal. We haven't checked it. The accounts are all managed by Master Zhengjue. I don't think there will be any problems. The temple has never been short of money, and Master has never asked about money."

Li Yi nodded and thought: Well, that's right, this is what Buddhism should be like, but we still have to see if Zhengjue is greedy for money. Thinking of this, Li Yi quickly finished his dinner and got up to walk towards the main hall. Seeing Li Yi go out, Jiyun picked up his bowl and chopsticks and followed him. The two of them arrived in the main hall and just caught up with the monks' evening classes.

When everyone saw Li Yi coming, they bowed and greeted him, calling him "Junior Uncle" or "Grand Uncle" one by one. Li Yi ignored them and just bowed together. Then he walked to Zhengyuan and gave Zhengyuan a look. The old monk immediately understood and made room for Li Yi to sit on the stage to give a lecture.

The monks were not surprised to see this scene. After all, everyone knew that the Buddha's light was brought by Li Yi. The Buddha, Bodhisattva and Arhat all showed the Buddha's light. Who dared to say anything bad about Li Yi? Even the abbot called himself an old monk in front of Li Yi. Everyone knew that this was because Li Yi had not yet become a monk. Once he became a monk, Master Zhengyuan would definitely give up his position immediately!

There was only one person in the hall who felt something was wrong, and that was Monk Zhengjue. He also knew that Li Yi had a predestined relationship with Buddhism and recognized his talent, but he was dissatisfied with Li Yi's attitude towards his senior brother, so he asked, "Xiuyuan, if you want to preach, then preach. Why do you want to take my senior brother's seat? That's the abbot's seat. Why, do you want to be the abbot?"
