The Hero in Exile

Chapter 1 Crossing

My name is Lingyu, and I am just an ordinary high school student. Maybe I thought I would live an ordinary life, but a car accident ruined it all. When I was 10 years old, I was on a self-driving tour with my parents.

Perhaps I still won't believe that I was chatting and laughing with my mother one second ago, and a car was coming towards us the next second. My father slammed the brakes in panic, but it was all too late.

At that moment, I looked through the window into the other car. He was operating the car in a panic. I saw fear and horror on his flushed face and the bottle of wine in his hand.

When I regained consciousness, the pain and tinnitus in my ears made it almost impossible for me to think calmly, let alone sit up. I tried my best to open my eyes, and found that my mother had hugged me and avoided many fatal injuries. I felt a sticky liquid soaking through my clothes. Although I wanted to get up and look at my father, I still couldn't do it.

The stench of blood gradually filled the air, and I fell asleep again with a feeling of nausea.

"What's the situation at the scene?" an old fire captain asked the new member. The situation at the scene made him realize that he could not delay any longer.

"Captain, the drunk driver has been rescued. His injuries are not serious. The main concern is the situation in the other car..." The recruit looked at Lingyu's car and frowned. "The situation is not optimistic. The two people we found have been rescued... and have no signs of life."

The recruit choked up a few times while answering and wiped away his tears with the back of his dark hand. "Alas, we will encounter more such situations in the future and we must learn to get used to them." The old captain patted the soldier's shoulder. He took out a pack of cigarettes from his trouser pocket, put one in his mouth, smoked one, put one to his ear, and took out another one after glancing at the young recruit next to him. "Captain, I don't smoke." The recruit quickly declined, "It's okay, you will get used to it in the future." The captain smiled and patted the recruit's helmet.

"Hey, there's a kid here, someone help get him out." Another firefighter shouted for help next to the wrecked car.

"Captain, I'm going to help."

When I opened my eyes again, I found myself in a hospital bed, with a nurse checking medical drugs next to me.

"Where am I, please?"

"Ah, you're awake. Don't move. I'll go call the doctor." After saying that, the nurse hurriedly ran out of the room.

"Does it hurt here?"

"It doesn't hurt." After the stiff reply, the male doctor in a white coat held a bunch of instruments to confirm that he was fine.

"Where are my parents?"

This question made the whole room much quieter. The nurse looked at the doctor and finally forced herself to walk out of the room. The doctor walked over to me, knelt on one knee in front of me, looked me in the eye, took a deep breath and said in my ear, "I'm sorry, although we tried our best to rescue you, it's still ineffective." After that, the doctor walked out of the room, closed the door, and left me alone inside.

"Damn it, it's this dream again."

Lingyu slowly sat up from the bed. He would be 18 years old in a few days. After this incident, he lived in his uncle's house. The person who drove under the influence of alcohol gave Fu Qiang a sum of money, which was given to his uncle's family to be used for medical treatment in the next few years.

When I got up from the bed, the creaking and painful sounds revealed the fact that this bed was very old.

"I'm going to school."

He picked up a piece of brown bread from the table, put it in his mouth, tied his shoelaces, and went out.

The door of another bedroom slowly opened, and the people inside came out only after confirming that there was no one outside. The people who came out were none other than the uncle and aunt.

"That burden is finally gone. How long will we have to live like this?" The woman said impatiently, venting her emotions.

"Don't be angry, honey. Have a drink of water. He will be an adult in a few days. I can give him some money and tell him to be self-reliant outside. I will be doing my best for my sister." The man said tactfully. Although he was reluctant to do so, his family was not rich after all. In addition, the unknown relatives who came after hearing the news did not leave him much after dividing the inheritance. He had done his best after taking care of her for these few years.

"Yeah, just bear with it for a few more days." Thinking of this, the woman drank a sip of tea and calmed down most of her anger.

Lingyu stood outside the door and listened to the conversation before leaving. She was not surprised that she was kicked out of the house. Instead, she was grateful for their care and love for raising her for so many years.

"But why do I still feel so painful?" Lingyu clenched her right fist on her chest, her body gradually curled up and her forehead rested on her knees. She persisted for a long time and tears ran down her face.

In the alley where no one could see me, I made sure that there were no traces left and no one would notice me before I hurriedly packed my clothes and walked out. After I left, I thought about my future life. Although I was only a senior high school student, I still had to work hard on the construction site to earn some pocket money.

Puff—thump—

"What's that sound?" Suddenly I heard a sound coming from behind. Damn, could it be that someone saw me like that just now? But there was only an almost empty path ahead and only a can rolled at my feet.

喵—

It turned out to be a cat. Lingyu, who had a false alarm, left the path. After a while, a man in a black robe walked out from the shadow, panting and leaning against the wall. He fumbled out a crystal from the black robe and the crystal emitted a strange blue light, and pictures were emerging inside.

“Master, we have…a clue.” The man in black robe knelt on one knee and lowered his head, calling the person in the crystal “Master.”

"Teacher, what's your current condition?" The leader noticed the man's condition. He was almost pale and looked like he might collapse at any moment.

"Thank you for your concern. I used Shadow Transformation to prevent that person from seeing me. After all, it is difficult to replenish magic power in this world."

"First, tell me what clues we have found?" The leader got back to the point. After all, the most urgent task was to find the chosen person.

"Hehehe." Hearing this, the black-robed man's mouth corners couldn't help but rise, bringing a hint of life to his originally pale face.

"Fellow disciple, what's wrong with you now?" The leader also noticed that the man was behaving out of character, which must be a major breakthrough.

"Master, please forgive my rudeness just now, because I have found the person named Lingyu just now."

Ah, who is talking about me? Lingyu shivered on the way to school. It seemed a bit cold today. She would buy some clothes after getting her salary this month.

I almost slept through the time at school. After all, I had to work from afternoon to night and how could I work better without sufficient sleep? I would only get up and run to the construction site when the school bell rang.

"Finally finished, I'm so tired." After finishing the work, Lingyu had taken off her work clothes and looked at the two red bills in her hand. These were the wages for a day's work until the evening.

Although Lingyu does not have much money now, he has already quietly planned his future life. He will first save money to buy a house and marry a wife. She does not have to be pretty, but it would be best if she can spend her life with him and finally live an ordinary life.

Lingyu was thinking this on the way home, immersed in her own thoughts, and did not notice the truck slowly approaching from behind.

"I'm sorry, brave man." The man was in the mirror. Although he was in the car, he was still wearing a black robe and his face could not be seen clearly. He slowly stepped on the accelerator and the truck approached Lingyu at a speed visible to the naked eye.

"Huh, what's that sound?" Lingyu turned around and saw that the truck was less than 3 meters away from her, and her body instinctively jumped to the side of the road.

huff-

Finally, he miraculously escaped the car accident. Lingyu's legs were still shaking and it was obvious that he had not fully recovered from the situation. Looking back, he saw that the truck had stopped in the middle of the road. He had to go up and say something to him for almost causing such a big accident.

"Brother, how are you driving? Can't I see at such a big age? You..." Lingyu, who was standing outside the car door, saw through the window the man in the black robe inside, who kept pounding the steering wheel and muttering something.

"Why are you hiding away?"

"What?" Lingyu thought she had heard it wrong. How could someone deliberately want to bump into a stranger? He must be crazy, right?

"I said why are you dodging!" the man almost roared, and was about to get out of the car towards Lingyu.

"Fuck, he's really a psycho." Seeing that the situation was not good, he immediately ran away.

"Stop." The man whispered after getting off the car.

If I were so stupid as to stop, I might as well be hit and killed by your truck. Thinking of this, Lingyu slowed down for some reason and finally stopped on the road not far away, motionless.

For some reason I couldn’t move. The sound of footsteps gradually approached and finally stopped behind me.

"Brother, calm down and don't do anything stupid. This is a country ruled by law or you will go to jail." Lingyu felt a surge of fear in his heart for some reason, just like a hunter forcing his prey into a desperate situation, making it impossible for him to think calmly.

"Originally it could have ended faster, but since you're like this, I have no choice but to use some other measures." The man was talking to himself, while Lingyu was confused by what he was saying. What other measures should be the thing that makes me unable to move.

While thinking this, I heard the sound of a truck behind me getting closer and closer. It seemed that I would really be hit and killed by the truck. Why would such a thing happen to me? My life would be so unclear and passed away at this late hour. Lingyu had already given up resisting. When she was pinned here, she felt that the other party would not let her go.

With a bang, Lingyu opened her eyes with her remaining consciousness, her eyes were bloodshot. The man was standing beside her, his mouth opening and closing as if he was muttering something. Forget it, she couldn't hear what he was saying. It was her bad luck to meet this madman, and her eyes gradually dimmed.

I don't know how long it took before I felt a slow warmth coming from my body. There was always a beam of light in front of me guiding me, and I instinctively chased forward.

"Where am I? What's happening to me?" When Lingyu woke up again, he was no longer on the familiar road, but in the center of a magnificent palace. And his body was not the familiar one. From the voice and feeling, he thought of a girl?

Before they knew it, a white-haired old man came from the other end of the palace. He was wearing a white robe and a huge white hat with a cross printed on it. The old man walked in front of Lingyu holding a scepter.

Although I don't know what's going on, this person's clothes look like the clothes of a medieval pope. I took a step back slightly. This is not the first weirdo I've met. Maybe he is in the same group with the previous person.

"Don't be so nervous, brave man." Seeing this, the leader smiled slightly and tried to dispel Lingyu's doubts.

"Tell me who you are and where this place is. Just now a madman called me a hero. Are you in the same group? And I am not the person you said I was, you must have made a mistake." Lingyu planned to find the right opportunity to run away and make contact with the outside world.

"I'm sorry, but you are indeed the person we are looking for. Allow me to introduce myself. I am the leader of this church and my name is Gvas Vida. You can just call me Vida. As for where we are, this is the Pannode Continent."

After saying that, Vida opened the curtain beside him, and what came into view was a soaring eagle or giant eagle in the sky. People in the town were coming and going below, and there were also some soldiers in heavy armor patrolling.

"Welcome to the Panod continent, brave sir."
