"You heard it," the emperor said coldly. He glanced at his wife and then looked away.

Although the emperor was angry, he still waved her closer. He took the hot tea offered by the eunuch and drank it all in one gulp. The warm tea soothed his aching respiratory tract and stopped the pain.

"Come closer," he ordered.

Anger danced in her fiery gaze. She hated being told what to do. Submission was against her fiery nature. Sadly, that fire had faded with the years. She no longer ignited the flame within her, for the palace held a power powerful enough to overwhelm her.

She finally reached her husband. He leaned in closer, his voice softer than she had expected.

"You and the Crown Princess have so much in common. Instead of bullying her like a rag doll, consider being friends."

She gasped and took a step back. "What do you think I've been doing?" she demanded.

The emperor sneered. "We've been married for over twenty years..." He patted his chest. "I see through your true colors."

The eunuch brought him another cup of tea, but he ignored it. This time he turned and walked away, determined. Even as his wife glared over his shoulder, begging for his death, the emperor trudged on.

Seeing the lack of love between the emperor and the empress, Li Xueyue suddenly realized that Yuzhen did not grow up in a warm family. It was a miracle that he knew how to love, and loved so tenderly.

"Your hands are getting colder and colder. Let's take you back home." Yu Zhen said.

Li Xueyue's attention was focused on the queen. This confident woman seemed on the verge of screaming in frustration. She didn't blame the queen. After so many years in the palace, she must be exhausted.

"Your Majesty," she whispered.

The Queen snapped back to reality. She turned around and saw that the Crown Princess's attention was entirely on her, not on her son who needed her care.

"Thank you for the tonic and nutritious soup you sent me before. It's a pity that the effects they had on my body have probably been offset." Li Xueyue said slowly.

The Queen sighed softly. Even at this moment, the Crown Princess knew what to say.

"Since it works so well, I'll continue to bring it to you."

Li Xueyue refrained from protesting. This wasn't her intention, perhaps her choice of words was inappropriate.

"No thanks," Yu Zhen said. His mother had given his wife too many tonics. He wasn't sure if they were poisonous.

Li Xueyue tightened her grip on his hand in a warning tone. She knew he was about to say something harsh again.

Li Xueyue smiled sincerely. She believed that the queen had a good heart, but she became cold because of the malice of the people around her.

"I believe Your Majesty." Li Xueyue said truthfully.

The Queen's smile widened. She nodded, turned around, and decided it was time to have a brief discussion with her maids.

"Bring them here."

The Queen paused at the sound of her son's voice, raised her chin, and raised her eyebrows.

"I'm going to drag those annoying women who are surrounding you here and let them see the power of my 'Scarecrow'."
