“You’re too impatient,” Yu Zhen snapped as soon as he exited the bedroom he shared with his wife.

If Lu Tianbi hadn't insisted on waking him up, Yu Zhen would probably have spent the entire morning teasing Li Xueyue.

Instead, she would have to wake up alone and confused. He would rather see her snuggled up to him than covered with a blanket.

"It's just because we finally got the list you asked for, Your Highness." Lu Tianbi explained. She raised her eyes and smiled bitterly.

A scowl marred his perfect features. His brows were furrowed and his face was displeased. He was radiant. No doubt the others lacked the same energy.

"Let's go to the study to discuss this matter." Yu Zhen said.

Lu Tianbi nodded in agreement and hurried to follow. The two walked in silence, so quiet that even the rustling of branches could be heard. What a peaceful morning...birds chirping and a gentle breeze.

"How did your blind date go?" Yu Zhen finally asked.

Lu Tianbi dropped her shoulders and shifted her attention elsewhere. Suddenly, the fluttering fallen leaves in the summer aroused her interest. They were vibrant, green, and full of life, different from her eyes.

"I have many suitors," she whispered, her voice soft and small, unlike her true character.

Lu Tianbi clenched her fingers tightly, and with every second, her lips would slowly droop.

"But you are not happy." Yu Zhen said expressionlessly.

Lu Tianbi nodded slowly. The movement was so small that almost no one noticed. She pushed open the door of the study, and darkness rushed in. She walked to the window silently and pushed it open. The sun filled the room, and she opened the curtains.

“Dad said some startling things,” she admitted.

Lu Tianbi didn't know where to start. She leaned against the wall. When the prince stepped into the room, there was a slight sound in the room. Apart from the door being tightly closed, this was the only sound.

"What's the matter?" Yu Zhen asked.

Yu Zhen walked to his desk, which was spotless and messy. The desk was exactly as he had left it yesterday. Not a single brush was out of place.

"Since Hu Dengxiao has served the Lu family for many years, I want to reward him with a woman of corresponding rank."

Yu Zhen looked up from the table, which was surprising because Hu Dengxiao was his advisor and Yu Zhen's man.

Such a big news that his advisor was betrothed to a woman should have reached Yu Zhen's ears. Who gave the Prime Minister such great authority to deal with Hu Dengxiao?

That man was so bold... but Yu Zhen was curious and amused. Yu Zhen sat down without commenting. Not long after, Lu Tianbi spoke again. It was unusual for her to lose her temper like this, but he welcomed her digression.

"Of course. Hu Dengxiao used to be a military strategist and is now a counselor. He holds a high position. That lady can only be the daughter of a viscount at most."

After hearing her words, Yu Zhen had no expression on his face and did not change at all. He just put his fingers back into the pen holder.

"Well, I suggested to father that with Hu Dengxiao's title and achievements, he could consider marrying a daughter of a marquis."

Yu Zhen raised an eyebrow. For someone so smart, she was indeed slow to react sometimes. This was such an obvious hint. The wise prime minister must have understood it in a blink of an eye.

"Father was very angry," she whispered. "It felt like... he did it on purpose."

"Your father should know by now," he said.

Lu Tianbi raised her head suddenly and met his serious gaze, her heart filled with fear. She knew exactly what he was talking about.

"He'll never accept it, Your Highness," she sighed.

Lu Tianbi reached into her wide sleeves and pulled out the hidden parchment. The parchment was rolled up, not much bigger than her palm. She walked to his desk and put the paper down.

"I mean, he knows how you feel about each other."

Lu Tianbi raised her head sharply. His words made her anxious, and she retracted her hand too quickly. The wooden pen holder fell on the table. She was startled by the sound, but she was not distracted by it.

"Who told him, your highness? No one knows except—"

"everybody knows."

Lu Tianbi stared at him in amazement, "But——"

"You two are being so obvious that even a child can see it."

Lu Tianbi blinked and hesitantly bent down to pick up the fallen items. "What, what do you mean by 'the two of us'? Besides, the two of us didn't fall in love at first sight. He likes dignified ones who won't beat him all the time, Your Highness."

Yu Zhen sneered, rolled his eyes, and picked up the parchment she placed in front of him. Her handwriting was as neat as always, almost perfect, and very similar to the model teachers gave to students.

"Hmm... isn't there an earl with the last name Qin?" Yu Zhen pursed his lips. He was sure that the scum that Li Xueyue was talking about was an earl.

"Indeed. But we found two nobles with the same surname. Perhaps the Earl's official position has been promoted?"

Yu Zhen narrowed his eyes. The parchment shattered under his fingertips. If this was true, it must have been the emperor’s doing. The old man once rewarded those who had heavily funded the Wuyi and Hanjian wars many years ago.

"I'm not surprised." Yu Zhen stood up from his chair. The unexpected development of the matter made him feel even worse.

He instructed: "Let Hu Dengxiao investigate both families."

Yu Zhen lit a candle on the small table. The flame flickered, drawing a slender outline on the paper. The flames devoured the four corners of the parchment, leaving only burnt ashes.

"But father has already arranged a blind date for Hu Dengxiao, Your Highness."

Yu Zhen laughed out loud after hearing her words, his tone was hollow and humorless, "If you have anything to say, Prime Minister, just come to me directly."

When Lu Tianbi heard what he said, she immediately perked up, and a powerful smile slowly appeared on the corners of her mouth. She was very satisfied with his instructions and nodded quickly.

"Oh, and one more thing," Yu Zhen mused. "Our dear advisor is such a jerk. Go make sure he does his job well."

Lu Tianbi laughed out loud when he heard this. Everyone knew that this was a lie. Although Hu Dengxiao was lively and liked to joke, he was actually very smart. He did everything to perfection and there was nothing to complain about his work style.

"Okay, I'll—"

A quick knock on the door interrupted her words. A second later, there was another louder knock on the door. The quick sound came from the wall.

Yu Zhen frowned. "What?" he asked, loud enough for the people on the other side to hear.

Lu Tianbi secretly walked to the door, opened it, and had a serious look on her face, which was completely different from her usual personality.

"Mrs. Lu!" a maid exclaimed and bowed quickly, her upper body stretched to the limit.

She gasped in panic. She tried her best to control her breathing, but the movement of her body showed that she was not.

“Crown Princess…she…she…” The maid’s voice gradually became low and she trembled all over.

Yu Zhen appeared behind Lu Tianbi. She stepped aside, but when he pulled the maid closer, her eyes widened.

"Speak," he demanded.

"The Crown Princess is unstable. We don't know what happened, but there's blood in the water. Many of the maids don't think this is the beginning of a cycle—"

Before the maid could finish her words, she was pushed aside by the prince and walked out of the door angrily. She trembled and straightened her wrinkled collar that was tightly grasped by the prince.

In less than a minute, he had reached the end of the corridor. As long as it involved the Crown Princess, nothing else mattered. His heavy footsteps were hurried and hard to ignore. His footsteps echoed in the corridor. It was totally unlike him to make such a loud noise.

"How dare other ladies dream of competing for his attention when he is so obsessed with her..." the maid whispered to herself.

She sighed at her own foolishness. She picked up her skirt and hurried after the Crown Prince. He would know what to do. He always knew.

Maybe, just maybe, things weren't as bad as they seemed. Or so everyone hoped.
