Chapter 454: Molecule Man!

After defeating the Beyonder in the Second Secret War, the severely injured Molecule Man and Silver Surfer worked together to repair the Earth. Molecule Man then pretended to have lost all his powers and went into hiding again. Only Silver Surfer knew that he had regained his full power. Later, the Beyonder's power was reborn as the Beyonder again, and Molecule Man came to the Beyonder's universe and the two met again.

During the Third Secret War, because the Transcendents and Molecule Man were too powerful, they were retconned as coming from an incomplete Cosmic Cube. Only by merging into one could they become a complete existence space that was mature in power and spirit and close to omniscience and omnipotence. Molecule Man successfully split from Kosmos, and with his power greatly reduced, he fled back to Earth. Later, because his girlfriend Volcana left him, he took his anger out on the Beyonder, separated him from Kosmos and fought again. Molecule Man is very mentally unstable and made a brief appearance in the Dark Avengers before the recent reappearance of the New Avengers.

In the Dark Avengers, he defeated all the Dark Avengers members including Sentry. After killing Sentry for the first time, the resurrected Sentry's dark personality The Void learned his molecular ability and was killed by Sentry.

Until the New Avengers reappeared, under the care of Doctor Doom as part of a plan to end the incursion of parallel universes, it was unknown whether their power level had returned to its heyday or was only at the level of a Cosmic Cube.

Owen Reece was born in Dinosaur, Colorado, but eventually moved to Brooklyn, New York. As a weak child, he was raised by a doting and overprotective mother. According to his own account, Owen claims that contrary to this, his mother gave birth to him late in life and despised him.

Seeking refuge at the home of their ally, blind sculptor Alicia Masters, the Fantastic Four wrapped themselves in a thin layer of plaster and posed as statues while Alicia motioned for the Molecule Man to go home.

Believing it was really the statue made by Alicia, the Fantastic Four attempt to use his powers to weaponize the "statue". However, he soon realizes his mistake and is ambushed by the Four. As Reed Richards seizes Molecule Man's wand, the Watchers swoop in and restrain him, telling the Four that their enemy will never threaten Earth again.

Utu placed Molecule Man in an alternate dimension where time moved faster, hoping that Molecule Man would die of old age. Some accounts suggest that Utu was able to strengthen Owen's mental block to his powers, but other sources dispute this. Whatever the case, Owen apparently used his powers to create a "son" and a new wand. Owen, now too old to exact his revenge, devised a device that would allow his "son" to recreate the accident that gave Molecule Man his powers.

Unknown to the Son, after the original Molecule Man's death, Molecule Man's consciousness was transported into the wand that channels his powers. This iteration of Molecule Man no longer has the limitations of its predecessor. However, when he attempts to use his powers to transport himself to New York City, he instead materializes in the Nexus of All Realities in the southern Florida Everglades near the town of Citrusville.
